Blame that on people crying, “Think of the noobs”. The original design made more sense with T1 having 100% waste which cancelled out the additional ore. That way if you trained more you got increased yield and increased available ore.
That is the sound of 100 high sec gankers using locator agent in order to farm you for your hideously expensive mods and deliciously expensive ship.
I didn’t say use them, but simply they are an option. And you are right, they are expensive as hell, but I mean to each their own. How many people with Officer mods get blown up daily, and no one thinks that is crazy. Same same to me, just in my world I am on a T1 budget that is all

I came back to the game after 2 years break and noticed my Orca does jacksht 3-4 mil ISK / hour where i did 12-15 mil back when i played.
So i wondered and tried to google up all those new industry and mining changes.
What a gigantic clusterfck.
For 2 hours i try to gobble up all the informations and changes, there isnt a cohesive overview for all the new stuff.
I dont understand jacksht anymore.
Previously it was simple: approach asteroid, deploy drones, mine, netflix.
Now WTF is “waste” and how does it work? wtf is all this unessecary sht.
Mining used to be a simple source of income now i have to calculate each rock to max my gains and need half a diploma to get behind all those new mechanics in play

Mining waste means you can now choose between higher yield or higher efficiency or a combination thereof when optimising your mining, by using different types of equipment. T2 mining lasers got three types of crystals for (A) efficient mining, (B) fast mining and (C) even faster asteroid destruction.
Asteroid contents were doubled at the same patch, so even with the less-efficient type B crystals you’re gaining more out of an ore than before, and faster.
Orcas need fuel now to keep the new industrial cores running. With this industrial core running they can compress ores in space with the right compression modules equipped.
Boosts and mining drones get a bonus while the industrial core is running, yet your ship is locked in space, so having the core active is a tradeoff.
Barges and Exhumers got big changes to bonuses and fits, so if you want fast yield, I recommend you pick one of those instead of the Orca to mine, unless you’re planning to boost other miners in which case the Orca is still great.

…and i looked at that industrail core taking 500 heavy water per 150s cycle… thats 12000 heavy water per hour which roundabout costs me 2-3 mil ISk/hour to have it active
but i only mine for 4-5 mil so im left with 2 mil/hour profit… wtf.
I haven’t ran the numbers, but since yield of the barges and exhumers got buffed and since you need fuel to keep the industrial core running, yes, solo AFK Orca mining is relatively less effective than it was before.
But people didn’t mind about income when AFK solo Orca mining, or so I’ve heard, so that shouldn’t be an issue.
Anyway, if you do care about income while AFK solo mining, I recommend a Retriever or Mackinaw in a less-visited part of space.
That’s your concern.
Try mining ice, you’ll have the water as a byproduct.
FYI orca yield has been increased, with that patch, which also has the effect of reducing afk bility of that ship. You need to be more active than before in order to have the same income, which is good, and if you are active you will make more money than before, which is also good.

Waste was created to target the annoyance of the mass AFK orca mining that has plagued highsec for years. While it does not get rid of AFK orca mining it has greatly reduce the profitability of using Orcas.
Please provide information that shows it is worse. From what I can remember the orca/mining drones haven’t been touched in a long time, and with the addition of the industrial core to the orca, its yield should have gone up by roughly 2% (Not a large amount, but it is some) What has happened is the value of highsec ore/minerals has decreased because their use has decreased.
i comfortly did ~15 mil isk/hour semi-afk solo mining in my orca in 0.6 system
i logged out for ~ 2 years
i log into the exact same account, fit and 0.6 system, now i do ~4 mil isk/hour with way more complicated mechanics in place, having to micro my drones since they dont auto retaliate anymore, then the new ‘waste-system’ etc. effectively a) ruining an allready hillariously low profit/hour b) killing off “brain afk playstyle” which is at least for me the only incentive to do mining to begin with. I did it because it required minimal attention.
even if thats true which i highly doubt given my experience, those 2% do not make up for 12000 heavy water/ hour to maintain the core upkeep.
I dont know WHAT they changed (bc they dont have an complete overview over all the patches) but over the course of 2 years it seems they changed hell of a lot in terms of mining and industry.
Profit is way worse than it used to be (and it allready was bad), gameplay is more tedious, systems are more complicated.
Why they did all the work when the endresult sucks. Instead they should have tried to combat bots more effectively bc now botting is even more attractive then it used to be.

Drones should auto-mine. That would be a bug that you should bug report.
This is why so many people were annoyed with AFK orca mining. Granted there are much more lucrative options out there, the orca was infinitely scalable, limited to each persons hardware they use. So if you had 10 afk orcas making 15mil an hour then you are pulling in 150mil an hour while not even playing. That is on par with current incursion runner numbers, which is ridiculous.
Heavy water is extremely easy to come by and can be gathered in extremely large quantities if you just did a single day of ice mining. Will cover plenty of days worth of regular ore mining.

They never hurt anyone, had the lowest income in the game and only competed with bots.
Thats 10x omega account meaning 15billion a month
not including all the skills required to fly orca properly nor including the ship and fit cost x10.
plus when multiboxing 10 accounts u cant really call it brainafk netflix playstyle anymore, the entire appeal is gone.
also not taking into account that NOT EVERYONE is willing to multibox over 10 accounts or even at all.
meaning even more skills to need and an icebelt and more time spend = less profit.
So Yeah…guess i should get into botting or multiboxing LOL
Drones have been fked for a while now. It’s a known bug.
Tons of people are/were. You were just afk/gone and never noticed.
Most people who run alts do skill farms, so the price to plex them is basically nothing. Anything they make via what they do in game is just added to their net gains.
Correct not everyone is willing/wanting to multibox. For those that don’t want to and still want to AFK then the mackinaw is now a much better choice. Holds over 40k m3, requires no core and is now somewhat tanky, but still susceptible to ganks unlike most orcas. CCP is pushing more towards choice and giving pros/cons of each choice.
Those who cry about it and refuse to look at what new alternatives are there are the ones who have lost their old precious min/max ability and don’t want to look at the new meta.

No, they were not (exluding that one thread you eventually will cherrypick somewhere). In my entire eve playtime which is a few thousand hours, i literally never ever saw someone beeing bothered by an orca sitting in some highsec asteroid belts. Because why should they? they dont hurt anyone, they dont even show up in ur overview, u dont even notice them, they make pisspoor isk and the only ones theyre competing with are bots. Ppl were pissed about everything in this game but definetly not solo orca miners.
If anything people asked for BUFFS to orca and mining in general to make it more attractive.
And if their changes over the past 2 years aimed at accomplishing that, they failed miserably.

Na, my decision to just resubscribe for 7 days turned out to be a good one.
You know expected some new content after literally 2 years, but nothing there they just fcked up mining for 2 years straight without doing much else.
Game is an even worse botting cashshop casino then it used to be.
You still have this, depending where you’re from it’s either called “Planetary Interaction”, “Skill Extraction”, or old-school “Research Agent” now.
But mining should not be a “watch netflix” activity. Either actively mine attentively at the monitor – so maybe try lowsec – or do a different activity.

yeah im just reading up on this, lots of ppl who used to mine were pissed and quit the activity or the game in a whole
seems mining is done almost exlusively by bots now, used to be bad back then but somehow they managed to make it even worse
