as is + 100% decloak all the time
would be way to op
for example bombers would be 100% useless in fleetfights
You clearly don’t understand WH cloaky hunting. Not a shock since everything is borne out of nullsec…
Last mirror was 2/15/21. Next one will most likely be next month
Could you make sure that the 15 minutes immunity cooldown activates on any ship activity instead of only on cloak activation?
So moving your ship, aligning, stopping etc. would reset the 15 minutes timer.
Otherwise those observatories will be abused in large fleet fights as a way to decloak bombers, who often wait for a good bombing opportunity for longer than 15 minutes. As long as they are actively piloted, they should be able to reset that immunity without decloaking at their bombing pings (which are often close to hostile fleets) and needing to recloak.
I don’t really care about cloaky campers, but it would be a real shame if those observatories ruined bombing.
Honestly I just dont understand ccp and its vision for eve anymore. So now there is a ping that has a random chance of decloaking a player. Sure there is a buff for a recent cloak - but if you are unlucky you can still be decloaked. So, an active player, using one of the only tools available to set up pvp, can be decloaked by random chance thereby ruining the pvp? The original devs would never have done this. Hell, not too long ago the more recent devs nerfered ecm based in large part upon the perceived random nature of its effects.
If the issue was afk cloaking, it would have been so much easier just to log out players who havent moved for 60 min or so. Instead, ccp decides to go whole hog and take a wreck ball to hunting.
At first glance, it appears that you are correct, but in a real-world scenario, you are wrong.
Yes, I think it’s a great idea that decloaked become a warp address.
moving a super gate to gate(?) across hostile area… uhh. Yes?! you deserve to die and you deserve to be an “anom”?
TL;DR - Should these people be flying 40b ships??
can’t figure out how jump fatigue timer/jump activation timer works, vs a 15min grace period. incapable to plan ahead.
Incapable to even align during cloak and hit warp when de-cloaked.
if one was to appear on probe scanner as green, for the most part, it would only be a warp in point to a bm, not a ship, unless that person was AFK…
But enough about that.
From what I can gather, I was surprised that this was an actual good delivery from ccp/csm.
But I still maintain that the observatory should scan down the decloaked ship.
the negative things I’ve got to say;
it’s deployable, it only lasts for 1h30min, it’s very low on hp. It’s expensive.
(i forgot to test this) is it retrievable? post in here suggests that it’s a one-time use…?
(then its really bad? – forget all about that “good delivery” of ccp/csm)
i’m pro no-cloak, so beeing against “deployable” is bad for me, as multiple deploys will spam the de-cloak more…?
But again, it’s low hp and expensive, it only last for 1h35min and it might not even be retrievable… zzz
So after using cloak there is cloak defence timer (15 minutes). I sit in FD-MIJ for a while, no observatory decloaked me. How is this supposed to work? TImer run off and observatory auto decloak?
When should we expect all other nonconsensual PVP to be banned?
I’d pay 40m every hour per system to make sure my 30 ratting ishtars are safe from the boogy man. Barely a drop in the bucket for a big time nullsec ratter compared to having their entire constellation camped for a week.
This module needs to provide opportunities for pvp. If it doesn’t, it fails to address why cloaky camping occurs in the first place.
It’s not auto. There’s a chance based mechanic there. (yes, I’ve just spent the last couple of hours testing.)
This should have been sov only, anywhere else and it is just another tool for bot farmers.

Why not doing a structure rather than a deployable ?
A player controlable structure with 2 special modules.
- Special probes
- A Point Targeted Area of Effect (like Supers “doomsday” / that would scaled depending on Solar System size) that raises all cloaked ships Signature in system by X%
All cloaked ships in system would need to fit a module (or do something, maybe a mini game like hacking, or nothing of those 2) for them to be able to detect this area getting targeted, and they could move before being hit.
If not, their signature is raised no matter what.
If they switch system, or recloak, or delog, it will stays at this size it were if hit.
But signature size will get back to its natural size with time (like fatigue timer).
The more they get hit, the more their signature raises, and the more they can be scanned down by those special probes on this structure (or just by simple Combat Probes).
Not happy about this change
It was literally the only tactic to use against people using local as an intel tool, running and docking whenever a hostile is anywhere near and waiting for them to leave
See pretty much any populated nullsec system for evidence of this happening
I wouldn’t have minded nerfing this tactic if something was simultaneously done to support roamers, but nearly every change goes in favour of bears and reducing risks in null sec. Roaming, particularly in small gangs is all but dead because of CCP continuously stacking the odds against them, the effort to reward just isn’t worthwhile anymore. The implication that null sec is dangerous is a joke these days.
We’ve gone from blackout being a terrible idea because people don’t want to actively scout. (don’t bother trying to tell me it’s a social thing, we all know that wasn’t the main reason people didn’t want it) to now we can’t have cloaky campers because they’re supposedly not actively hunting. We need to see some consistency. Encourage active game play or don’t, don’t just appease the loudest group of players, that might be good for short-term subs, but harms the game long-term.
its a tool for bot/any farmers in sov null too
but they complain a lot, therefore cloak nerf
tho i could live with it being all-null and ls
As if half the people here have ever caught a target while using something cloaky. You might as well be pissing in the wind with these well thought out comments Fyn.
It is kinda meh feature, only for afk camping hunting. What chances are for decloak if cloak defence timer is on? Is there a sound for ping?
So I’m seeing that these are working in wormhole. Jesus Christ. CCP you might as well put people in local chat at this point. I shouldn’t have to tell anyone why it’s a bad Idea for these to work in j-space.
CPP has a literal hardon for the perceived isk sink of non-retrievable deployables for at least a year now. Unfortunately, the data derived from these is self-promoting since there is no alternative for comparison other than ‘mobile tractor units’ and ‘mobile warp disruptors’ which are relatively inexpensive and often ignored.
The addition of this module is not a terrible idea, but it needs to be more active than right click cargo, deploy. Safe for 1h 30m and it needs to promote activity from ‘cloaky campers’ that isn’t just recloaking every 15 minutes. It should promote pvp and provide opportunities for both sides of the interaction. Unilateral changes don’t solve problems.
Another gift to CCPs only preferred player group:
With the dynamic bounty system… ratting ticks are indeed crap. taking out “big toys” is not worth it anymore. to competetive. “a big time nullsec ratter” = t1 bs.
This is the “end game” for krabbing nowdays.
So even thou… Yeah i agree, i would also pay 40m for 1h 30min of peace and quit even if im “only” in my peasent fit 400m t1 bs, with ticks of around 30m.
until i realize that someone actually has to be hunting the afk-cloaker while i rat, and then, the “hunter” also has to scan down as an example… 30 ishtars with 30 mtus and a total of 200 drones … that all change locations every 20 min or so.
thats alot of scanning just to maybe get “lucky”… lucky you got to protect your 400-500m investment.
lucky as in… good - until you look up from your keyboard and start to question your life choices.
Then nah. Its simply not worth it.
