You are probably right, but I am not entirely certain. Aurora confirmed that they lowered the threshold for likes (I don’t actually know if there even was a like limit before - I’ve gone on liking sprees and never hit it), so either the flag limit wasn’t there before, or the threshold has been lowered to stupid low levels.
This was before the recent changes? Interesting. Well, that corroborates Nevyn’s statements. But I think it is ambiguous that the threshold has been lowered… for no good reason (ISD has repeatedly stated over and over and over again that flag spam has not been a concern), just like all these other changes.
I do understand the logic of this statement and it’s not without some degree of merit.
The problem is, however (and this is based on 30+ years of experience in managing volunteers in charities, living on a housing co-operative and a bunch of other relevant experience) that a lot of the time the people who might be perfect candidates for ISD simply don’t step up to the plate.
So what do you do?
If people do decide to volunteer, for the best possible reasons, and they’re not perfect then you try to accommodate them while offering peer support and training that hopefully drives and motivates them in the right direction. And you know what? Sometimes those people turn into great volunteers.
When I last checked, simply having a robust and thorough recruitment process and paying a salary is no guarantee of a lack of bias, if this was true then every company, government institution, etc in the country would be 100% tolerant and inclusive.
I think this is a pretty good idea on paper. Having said this, there is good scientific evidence out there that people tend to pick people ‘like themselves’ given an opportunity to recruit their own volunteers.
Now that they added a limit to the likes, you have to compensate with the flags. That’s normal. Just don’t compensate with alcohol.
Toxicity of bitter vets is when they think too highly of themselve.
Force yourself to make absurd posts to ensure you won’t become one ! ARACHNY !! (that’s when spider don’t have hierarchy ! arachnide+anarchy, just in case someone does not get the joke)
Because people who are already donating a bit of their time aren’t necessarily inclined to donate their entire lives toward an effort. I’ve seen organizers try to pull ■■■■ like that, where a person shows up and does a good job for a few hours once a week or a month or whatever, and the management decides that they’re a prime candidate for working a full-time job for free.
Pay them. Especially in this case. CCP isn’t a charity. They shouldn’t have volunteers.
I’ve seen this happen before, and can tell you that a person can be so far gone that their bias never goes away.
CCP Aurora has disabled the wiki and rename and recategorization powers that are normally associated by default with the Veteran badge (which by default is called “Regular”, but that was also renamed). We begged her to disable these features after she enabled them and we demonstrated proof-of-concepts of their destructive power in a sandbox thread (though some users wrecked havoc on other threads before the features were disabled). The entire discussion of unannounced forum changes (new-but-now-revoked powers, like/flag limits, trust level requirement changes, etc), including CCP Aurora’s explanation of the changes, is here:
Oh, and @discobot is now a sentient entity. I mean, it’s possible he was before, but let’s just say it has been highly publicized now…
Yes I got your retroactive ping - good to know that retroactive pings and edits on locked threads are forum features. I assume these are Veteran-only features (I guess they let anyone in these days). To respond to your ping: I only add good ideas to my platform . Do you think so little of me that I would even consider such a thing ? I consider this to be a personal attack and it should be moderated as such
Discuss “new powers” and all other “WTF are you doing to the forum with these unannounced and unnecessary changes” concerns in the thread I linked previously. We already convinced Aurora to disable several new powers. Personally I’m okay with this one and TBH I’ll be using it first thing tomorrow morning when I get out of bed.
Shoot, I even had to let Barstorlode know that, and I kid you not, discobot was trolling on the thread… the damn forum bot needs to be moderated.
If it’s your own post you’ve always been able to edit it afaik, regardless of whether or not the thread is locked. I’ve certainly been able to do so for a long time.
The ISD team can lock a post so that it is uneditable by anyone other than another member of the community team.
It doesn’t bother either way, It’s just something I wanted to point out. I’m all for freedom in the forums, it just seemed like a possible abuse. I could send Archer a coded message in an edit!

We are tired of the constant derailment and this bickering back and forth. We have given plenty of general and private warnings to numerous users. We have been very lenient.
EVE has always been, and always will be a game of confrontation. It is expected for you to find many others within the game that you disagree with. That is the entire point of the game. Find someone who doesn’t agree with you, and fight them. Fight for victory. Winner takes all.
Do not, EVER, believe that we will ever take that from the forums. What we will NOT tolerate are people who nickle and dime others repeatedly over and over for the same issues in different threads. Keep threads on topic. ALL of them.
Allow this to be a message to all of you. If someone wont leave a certain topic alone and is following you around, ignore them. Flag them if you feel it is appropriate. But do not respond to them. That is the only way we will be able to get control of this obnoxious childish behavior.
I am very tired from having to deal with all of this. I don’t want to be tired.
