My contribution to the "Highsec Lobby" initiative

Ty for nominating me for my very own article on minerbumping.com!

Yep, idiot of the week.

hmmm… You guys need to manage your comments a bit better on your site.

On that one post alone that carebear for life linked it is already a bit much.

Then disable them. It really is that simple.

I doubt it just the carebears posting that crap. The worst ones came from what appears to be supporters of CODE. Obviously hearsay because they are doing it anon as they themselves would not like their names attached to those comments.

And you are correct it is a slippery slope but there needs to be a line.

but I digress… continue this posting charade.

Well, if you disable the comments, then there is no discussion at all. Your solution to the dilemma posed by freedom of speech is basically to prevent any and all speech. That’s certainly not ideal.

Taking your argument a step further, we might conclude that NO WEBSITES should be permitted on the internet, unless they are themselves moderated by some third party organization. Why would we trust people to run their own website, if we can’t trust them to post in a forum? Why not extend that logic to tabloids, newspapers, and people walking down the street?

Where do you draw the line? I don’t know, the US Supreme Court doesn’t know, and I think you probably don’t know either.

I think the easiest solution is to simply let people say whatever they want, because trying to control them is more effort than it’s worth. I mean, that’s really the point of the First Amendment to the American constitution. Once you start to moderate offensive comments on a blog, it’s one slippery slope to totalitarian government.

Mortgage Specialist v. Implode-Explode Heavy Industries (2010) is an interesting case, which builds upon Near v. Minnesota (1931) and New York Times v. United States (1971). The main takeaway here is that the courts do not see it as their responsibility to moderate speech, and will not issue a cease and desist to halt the publication of potentially defamatory statements. Instead, if you feel defamed, it is your responsibility to file a lawsuit and the content will only be forcibly removed after your case is formally heard in court.

I don’t think you can criticize James for adopting a policy identical to that of the US government. Users of the internet are expected to moderate themselves. You are free to volunteer as a moderator, but you can’t expect every website operator to spend their valuable and limited time on this.

Jealous of what? People are laughing at you.

It’s a concept he isnt familiar with. He does not know the idea of shame, or self ridicule.

I bet he does, he just hides it and over-compensates with bluster.

I didn’t see anything like that when I looked at their suspension and ban policy, but I did notice they repeatedly say how breaching their EULA will result in them banning “an account”. Not all accounts, an account.

Is there proof of that you can offer? It might get Dracvlad to lay off on that front, if only for a little while.

Hogwash. Even a cursory glance at her Zkill profile shows how many exhumers, freighters, faction battleships, and even marauders she’s killed.

Edit: As @Lucas_Kell pointed out here, I failed to account for the graph @Scipio_Artelius posted of Aiko’s kills when I wrote this reply. Mea culpa. :pensive:

Really? Well, that’s nice to hear. With all the bile getting thrown around here I got the impression you folks weren’t much liked.

Honestly, I would love it if someone managed to oust him from his position and turned the AG movement into a respectable opponent to you guys that provided more fun content.

As much as I wish it wasn’t the case, you’re probably right, though I do wonder if there’s a way to make the learning curve more gradual without watering down the game any.

How many new characters were flying ships they’d have to inject into? Those were probably alts, though I’m sure there were a few credit card warriors amongst them.

Or just not paying attention, which amounts to the same thing.

That depends on the ship, really. Killing a well-fit freighter is much more impressive than killing a noob Venture, even if the freighter can only die fast enough when several dozen Catalysts are shooting it.

Doing a little projecting here, Aiko. I can imagine how satisfying a player would find it to successfully gank a freighter and steal expensive loot from the wreck.

Yeh, see, that’s what non-gankers really don’t understand. Gankers just want to shoot the carebears, we don’t care if loot drops, we just want your ship to explode.

You don’t need to inject into a Venture, which is what that was referring to from the plot earlier.

So hopefully none.

I doubt it. The guy is the central heroic figure of every one of his posts and doesn’t give a ■■■■ about anyone but himself, so I don’t think he has any ability for self restraint or laying off.

This presumes they’re all operated by the same person. For all we know there’s an actual family of EvE players operating those characters.

Where is he, anyway? He’s only got two posts on these forums and the last one was in 2017. Does he just not like it here or something?

The Game of Alts is like the Game of Thrones, except you turn into a paranoid madman when you lose instead of dying.

Christ, if I was that rich I’d probably be welping ships into every fight I could find.

Well, CODE. really likes to play their game of pretend, so I can kinda see where he’s coming from, here.

Or a plant. He’s doing a wonderful job of convincing me the AG crowd aren’t the sort of player I want to hang out with.

Oh, how I wish the moderators here would punish someone for arguing in bad faith.

I don’t know how you deal with this. I would have a concussion from banging my head against a wall by now if I were in your shoes.

You mean just this week?

Mayhaps you shouldn’t jinx it…

:man_shrugging:

Maybe, maybe not. There’s no accounting for personal taste.

I think that’s the central issue here. Both Dracvlad and CODE. act like they’re super-righteous, but the key difference between them is that Dracvlad actually believes he’s the hero in this argument.

Fair point. I wrote that before seeing Scipio’s graph and forgot to delete it, though my glance at her killboard certainly wasn’t “cursory”. I went through ten pages of her kills, and what stood out to me was the number of barges she’d been ganking.

I’ll edit in a correction to that post.

I’m having a blast I dunno what your on about

Can’t fight something that shoots back I see

Her killboard has a period in lowsec just after starting out and has several capitals on it, I don’t think she’s afraid of taking fights that she could lose.
