Native Mac Client Playtest #2 - General Feedback & Issues

Thanks for working on this! I’ve entered a couple of bug reports for rendering issues. Overall, things seem as stable and working as well for the most part as the current stable release. I’m most excited that the ship and environment rendering is now polished. It would be nice to get rid of the bright red flash when the client is killed. Keep up the fantastic work!

Thanks for that tip Amarisen Gream it’s pretty good with 3 to 4 clients logged in. With 5 clients logged in it’s pretty laggy. The lag makes it hard to use, but not impossible.

Now I need to see if I can actually use Discord for voice channels. With the WINE client I loose game sound when i connect to a voice channel. I have no issues with other sound sources. Please let me know if you have a fix for this issue.

I’m hoping that’s not the case with the native client. I am hopeful because with the native client i can change my output device and I don’t loose game sound like with the WINE client. The game sound moves to the current output device with the native client. lot’s of positives for me with this test. The downside is now I want a native client real bad.

Is the Playtest still live?

Yes it is. Playtest is from Aug 11-16 (see the image at the beginning of this thread)

Thanks for the reply. I should have read the FAQs first; didn’t realise i had to change to the Singularity Test server.

I haven’t heard back yet if the keyboard thing worked or now for you. It seems the EVE app was moved, I have attached a screen shot with instructions for anyone who wants to get their Touch Bar to auto swap to F-keys.

@Nova_Kage_Nova

I don’t know enough about your audio set up to probably help. My main machine is a 2018 Mac mini, and I run all my discord through my headset. I will test on my M1 MMP and see if I can see the same issues you have.

MacOS version 11.2.3
Chip: Apple M1
Memory: 8GB

Overall gameplay, graphics and audio were comparable to my windows client I normally use. I reported two minor issues with UI via bug fixes but these do not affect gameplay. I was unable to reproduce any of the issues other users have reported in the Jita system during testing.

However, CPU usage was regularly high during gameplay causing the machine to run “hot”. Typically I experience this with CPU usage greater than 60% in other instances.

Greart result, loved it on my new Mac M1; so much better than the non native version.

Tested on:

Mac Mini M1 2020 8GB
macOS Big Sur Version 11.4

All effects on.

All settings maxed out at 1080p - HD works great, no issues.
All settings maxed out at 1440p - 2K works great, no issues.

At 4K 2160p some settings reduced to medium but shader still on high to give good fps.

MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020) here, and I can’t even start the game from the launcher: “Game client assigned to has closed unexpectedly.” Any way I can get more useful logs?

EVE playing fullscreen at 2560x1440; post-processing & anti-aliasing off; shader, textures & LOD set to High; shadows at Low.

Couldn’t make it to the mass test again, sorry — work, work, work… :frowning:

The discoloration issue I mentioned in my previous post seems to have been solved already; I tried to reproduce it today and couldn’t.

I did get stuck on a blank red screen on first login, but after force-quitting & restarting the client there was no repeat of this.

The game is still playable with graphics settings on High, as long as anti-aliasing is disabled. I can confirm it does run on the GPU. There is the occasional freakout, f.e. the citadel hangar rendered as a jumbled mess of textured random planes the first time I entered one, but after restarting the client I couldn’t reproduce that. Maybe the DoD kicking in messed things up a bit.

CPU usage is surprisingly low (whereas the WINE client basically hogs it all…)

So most issues I had seem to stem from my ageing machine, and since I plan to upgrade as soon as the M1X/M2 Macbook Pros are released anyway, I decided not to bother with a bug report. Better to focus on current & future hardware.

If I still have the half-sized window on non-retina external screens on the new machine, I’ll report it. Apart from that everything felt like an improvement over the WINE client. Shortcuts & keybindings e.a. were all OK, too – I customise most of them anyway.

Keep up the good work o7

when we can see that client on tq??
he is work so good atm @CCP_Caffeine
i can play on 5x clients on macbook air m1 without wine and lags

I did a few hours of testing using the new macOS 12.0 Monterey Beta 5. Worked great! No issues.

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020], Big Sur 11.4, 2.3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7, 32 GB 3733 MHz LPDDR4X, Razer Chroma Core eGPU Radeon RX 5700 XT 8 GB, LG 38GN950 3840 × 1600

All game graphics settings on high. I played for several hours. Found no issues.

Keep up the great work CCP !

Macbook Air (13-inch, Mid 2013), 1.3 GHz intel core i5, 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB.

Can’t start up the game. It says on the window name, “exefile” and all blackscreen. And im just hearing a in game music. That’s all. Is there a way to fix it?
or i think its because of my Macbook Air is old?
Hmmm…

Hey all,

We have just deployed a new build to Sisi. In this patch we re-enabled a performance optimization, which caused crashes earlier - but now with fixed code, so it should no longer crash.

For testing this we are:

  • Extending the play test slightly until tomorrow
  • Have an informal test this afternoon at 17:00 EVE-time - just FFA combat in M-OEE8.

Hi! Unfortunately it does not work for me, as when the native client is running an “app” called “exefile” is running, and it is impossible to add that to the F key list. But no worries, I can see the first 8 Fkeys regardless. Thanks for the guide though

I am getting a bit more FPS it seems, and I managed to dock in jita with everything maxed out without issues. The game still does not activate the discrete GPU though, I have to do it manually.

Getting a certificate issue since restarting the launcher and switching to Sisi this morning:

You are welcome for the guide -

Also, if I remember right, I never mentioned adding the exefile to the list.

Also, all I get is the F1-F8 unless I hold down the fn key.

Yeah, I know you didn’t mention adding the exefile to the list. But it’s the one that should be added as that one is the one the system sees running. The F1-F8 appears on the taskbar regardless of adding EVE to the list, but adding it to the list SHOULD show F1 though F12 and nothing else. Try adding another app, like excel (the one I have) and launch it. You’ll see only the F keys.

I think the issue here is that there is not a standalone app that launches, for the moment, so the system cannot be configured to have the F keys for EVE.
