What makes the Gila stand out from the rest? Plenty of cruisers out dps it, are faster, or apply better. I do agree that it is popular, mainly for it’s ability to be more hands off, but site stealing ain’t it.

Insane passive tank without sacrificing DPS for it. And if you do sacrifice 1 low slow, then you can have 300k+ EHP and the more shield EHP the more it heals passively with no cost. It has insane bonuses to medium drones, so it doesn’t actually need to use light or heavy drones ever. Which then makes no sense why it has so large drone bay. Even though they nerfed its drone EHP bonus, with the drone bay so large, the long-term PvP strategy of killing the drones is just not possible.
I agree it is strongest t1 cruiser by far.

There is no event at the moment. Do you mean regular combat anomalies? The Orthrus is the one I fear whenever I see it warp on the site I’m doing. Gilas always leave, whether I use a Caracal or Hawk

You are talking about it’s tank, which I agree is strong. OP is talking about sites being stolen, and the ship being oppressive, which isn’t something a strong tank does. Most Gilas have 700-900 DPS (depending on the missiles used), which is middling for Faction cruisers.
Okay, challenge:
Build any T1 cruiser that can:
- Scram+Web an opponent
- move with more than 1800m/s
- has ~65.000 eHP
- can do more than 850 dps up to 15km and more than 700 up to 30km
AT THE SAME TIME!
Fitting Rules:

no overheat, no implants, no boosterdrugs, no fleetboost
-
price limit 450M
Hint: I have a Gila fit that can all that.
Edit: This is not to mock you or anything, I am seriously interested, because I agree that the Gila is crazy OP atm, not because “it’s strong tank”, but because it can also do everything else quite well: DPS, Range, Application, Movement - without the need to sacrifice anything relevant. Or pimping the ship into oblivion to actually make use of it’s traits.

OP is talking about High sec pve, not pvp. But Vigilant, Orthrus, ENI, ANI, SFI, VNI, ONI, CNI, Phantasm, Cynabal.
I am talking about balance. Please don’t throw in random names that just come to your mind without backing them up with actual data (numbers, ehp, dps, ranges etc…). Please show me a fit that can even remotely do what the Gila can do currently as bang-for-a buck swissknife. Just one.

I actually doubt you can reach those numbers without myself, mainly the DPS one, without using CA-Xs (which are 450mil each). I think the Pirate ships are pretty balanced though (they should be compared to T2 btw, since that’s what CCP does). The Navy ships are very much worth the ISK they cost and are balanced against each other, and with more bling can compete with T2/Pirate. Off to Frontiers though, cya.
Why should I claim something that I cannot back up?
My Gila has:
- 875 DPS up to 16km, 757 DPS up to 30km (with good application, not some falloff thingy)
- 65.5k eHP with a 140ehp/s passive recharge
- a 3point Scram to hold stabbed targets
- a 14km Web to make the missiles hurt
- moves at 1825m/s (2615 on OH to catch someone)
All that before a single implant, drug, fleetboost or anything.
…and does cost below 450M total.
If you are really convinced the other T1 and/or pirate and/or faction cruisers are in balance to this, please show me any competitor. Even a close one. And if you can’t, can we agree that the Gila does indeed deserve a bit of a nerf? No?

Gila definitely needs a tank nerf, at the very least. So does the Isthar.

Yes, but still tech1. And I obviously included other pirate cruisers to the comparison.
You can try to fit a TENGU (T3 Cruiser) to reach those values. I can come close, but for at least a 100M more and be significantly slower, less DPS, less Range… still no rival to the Gila. Not saying it’s impossible, but I can’t find a challenging fit so far. Open for ideas…
