I assure you, sir, that my vocal chords and lungs, like the rest of my anatomy, are as natural as God saw fit to grant me.
I wonder if he should take his own adviceâŚ
Says the one who takes orders from DBRB.
Are you sure theyâre not actually ârequestsâ from DBRB? According to some, this is apparently super nuanced.
Boatâs in TK Corp? News to me.
And even before I left GSF, Vlad, no, I did not take orders from DBRB. Rank, privileges, the fact that he hasnât been a Director since the Fountain war of YC 115 or soâŚ
Really, you gotta keep up on current events if you want a decent burn here, man.
Come now, Gaven. Youâve known Aldrith for years. Heâs not a man who holds grudges.
So I post in every thread, youâll stop completely? Hmmmm.
While I appreciate the ironic humor youâre going for there, Iâm gonna be my normal pedantic self:
A fortification can be any degree of fortification. A simple earthwerks trench is a fortification. âBastionâ is quite definitely the stronger defensive descriptor.
And amusingly enough, a citadel is a considerably higher class of fortification than a bastion.
But is a keep truly stronger than a fort?
Depends on the fort, really, that covers a wide range. And the era of weaponry. True Keeps havenât been all that effective since the early Udorian wars, though they can still make lovely ornamental disguises for actual fortifications with bunker entrances and the like.
Well, yes. A âfortâ (rather than âfortressâ) in common parlance tends to be a fairly low-grade emplacement, a kind of FOB really, while a âkeepâ generally denotes the final, central defensive redoubt within a larger defensive complex. Classically, a siege would need to proceed throughâŚ
Sadly, that lovely central tower makes an excellent target for even ancient artillery.
As for the Bastions, those arenât even labeled on your diagram there, though I think I see at least two.
It does, but itâs also a perfect point for a central shielding system to cover the entire emplacement.
The history of warfare, after all, is one of see-sawing advantage to attacker or defender.
Edit: also, Utari, in case itâs not clear, that inner/outer curtain wall arrangement would probably continue all the way around if that werenât built into the side of a mountain. Taking that on foot means fighting uphill the entire way, which is its own sort of fortification. Fatigue can be a powerful ally (or foe) as PAPI once again learned all too well this past summer.
(Honestly, after this long, how does anyone not understand that Goonswarmâs modus operandi in warfare is all about being willing to suffer through more of the tedious fedo feces that is full-scale capsuleer warfare for longer than anyone else in theatre will? If youâre not prepared to keep on fighting until everyone you know has long-since died of old age, donât start a war against Goons.)
I assure you Iâm educated enough to know curtain walls would typically encircle the central keep if itâs not connected to one or more of them, or other geographical features being incorporated, even with my educational background having been astrogeology and not military history.
I am glad youâve played to form and made a lot of hay from my admittedly terrible joke. It brought a much needed chuckle.
I live to serve!
(and really, I figure youâve known me long enough that you had to be expecting it. )
Oh I donât know, it worked quite well the first time around. The failure the second time around seems to have come about through stacking Upwell fuckery more than attrition willingness, and how it seems true sieges just arenât possible in that context these days.
Fortification in modern theaters has changed fairly significantly within less than half a decade. Itâll be interesting to see what the next half-decade will offer in that regard, and whether thereâll be means to truly siege other capsuleer forces in the future.
It appears that, despite not populating these forums since the cusp between YC 121 and YC 122, some things have never changed. Whilst I have been hiding from my past as a member of the Cult of James that was the New Halaima Code of Conduct - reflecting, seeking inner clarity of who I am and who I want to be, watching the once gleaming institution of CODE. collapse as I started to see more and more of the cracks in my former beliefs - Miss Kim hasnât changed one iota.
Whilst, my dear, I donât expect you to remember who or what I was, I never forgot about you. But that will come to pass. I merely wanted to exclaim that your single-minded bullishness brought to me a wave of⌠Whatâs the negative version of nostalgia?.. that urged me back out of the shadows.
They say familiarity either breeds comfort or contempt, I hearâŚ
Welcome back to the party, Ms. des Larmes.
I must admit, I didnât expect to see you in Electus Matari colours, Palad⌠Ms Elkin. For every immovable object of a Diana Kim there must be an irresistible force, I guess.
I hope that life has been treating you as well as it can a capsuleer.
