Ok…NOW I think Eve is dying

Im not a fps player, but anything that can bring in new players to eve im all for it.

A lot of people got into Eve through Dust 514. It could be really good if they keep the feel, progression and loadout options. It will have nore potential on PC in eve as well.

See this is an example of CCP learning from their past mistakes knowing that the PC is the master race and consoles are inferior in every single way. :100: :100:

I did read that eves directior realizes dust 514 on ps3 was a mistake that shouldnt have happened.

I think a key element here is whether they can bring the space combat - or at least the travel - elements up to a greater standard. There’s something quite jarring about point and click travel after being in an FPS. I think Elite did a good job in the space flight stuff, but a bad job at the FPS.

This looks significantly better on the latter front, but making it join up and be part of the wider EVE experience will be a huge challenge. It feels a lot like a separate game in any meaningful sense.

I do commend them on trying though, even if I wish they’d put the same energy they are using to create these vivid, alive worlds, into creating the same living, breathing space that we have played in for decades. I want to see NPC’s doing meaningful things in their ships, things that happen where players can interact or join with or against pirates, but if they don’t these things have results.

Feels like Eve’s core game has been almost mothballed, and the only changes are relatively small in scope.

But he still keeps his job just like the CEO. Every year they apgolize for something. And then do something silly again. Over and over again

CCP: Here’s the future of our graphics engine! New tools so our designers can bring concepts to the game faster! Here’s a whole new branch of FW, with new content and a whole new travel conduit for people to iterate on! We’re bringing the events back! Here are 5 new ships in areas of the ship tree that never previously existed! Here are the results of the CSM voting, with the second or third highest participation numbers ever! Oh, yeah… and remember that FPS game we talked about? It’s not vaporware… here it is!!!

It actually does if CCP dives head first into full integration. CCP isn’t going to compete with COD or Battlefield… nor are they likely to make a better Warframe or Destiny right out the gate… but they can make a better Star Citizen. That game has been in development hell for years, and performs like trash. Even so, it rakes in the money.

CCP already has code and assets from Valkyrie to provide that similar fighter gameplay. Tie that into vanguard, and you have an atmospheric fighter module for the game. Not that that game was a success either, but it also wasn’t tied into the greater EVE universe.

The way to make sure this is successful, is to do something that hasn’t been done before, and that route goes through the path of full integration.

Ideally, they’d be able to eventually merge the clients into one, but that likely will never happen since they’re running different game engines. It really would be fantastic though, if right after character creation, you’d be able to see your character move around before hopping in the pod and doing the current npe stuff.

You obviously have no clue what you’re talking about. People didn’t riot because they didn’t want walking in stations, people rioted, because CCP had an entire expansion around Captain’s Quarters and the cash shop stuff that came with it. Captain’s Quarters was mandatory and was literally melting people’s hardware.

CCP also said the fw system (or at least portions of it) will be the future nulsec sov system. So people need to stop being bad and understand how these various systems can be extrapolated into other parts of the game.

The Riot in 2012 was not over WiS,

It was over the fact all we got was Captain Quarters, on top of Arum, the new NES, the leak over the internal CCP magazine “Greed is Good” article, anmd teh fact a dev made mention over protests of a cosmetic costing $70 usd eqivelant, “you guys spend that on designer jeans right?”

In short the Summer of Rage was all about the blatant disrespect CCP had for its playerbase when we expected a fully fleshed out WiS after a year or so of being promised it was coming.

THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO DO THAT THO?!

Like people spend the big bucks to get literally pixels that some designer made. My biggest cosmetic purchase so far was no more than $1.50 USD after tax. :joy: It was in dota 2 and you can get a ton of cosmetics for 5$ there. :face_with_hand_over_mouth: People spend nearly 100$+ to get the “better” stuff.

It’s a bit tone deph but still man. People are so selective about their outrage. Crucify CCP if they hike monthly prices but added large bulk orders that provide a larger discount than before. :joy:

You know what we are all still here. Playing this game. Despite all of the mistakes and imperfections. We still give money/support the EVE cycle in one way or another. Plexer or $$$er

Right now, everything is in the greater good of EVE Vanguard.

I think WiS would be fun. But it would also be a distraction and a consequence would be that people would spend less time undocked…which would be bad for the game.

On the other hand one could argue the same with Vanguard. If people are down on a planet in their '4th character ’ then they are not going to be in space in their ship.

Disagree, because there will be more people in game. If someone wants to play a shooter… they’re not going to log into eve… they’ll play a shooter instead. Destiny is free, Warframe is free. There’s very little barrier to entry for someone who wants to engage in that gameplay.

CCP is just trying to get those people to spend their time… and eventually their money… in New Eden instead.

Right but they may not have been logged in at all at that time though

If you for example don’t have 3 hours to commit to a fleet but do have an hour to commit to some vanguard thats an hour more you’re playing the game than you would have otherwise

Well, you contradict yourself…if people are not gonna want to play an Eve FPS shooter then there wont be more people in the game. Of course, the existing players may spend more time playing…going down to planets rather than spinning ships in dock. It all remains to be seen. To me, the most blindingly obvious solution for Eve is to make space PvP easier and encourage more big PvP and even solo encounters…rather than keep nerfing them all the time. Instanced PvE is not gonna save Eve.

The few times I’ve been in 3 hour fleets ( most are a lot shorter ) its mostly been down to chaos…and an entire hour can be ̶w̶a̶s̶t̶e̶d̶ spent just getting the fleet set up, even though everyone knew 5 days beforehand what time the fleet was going to be. There’s always people scrambling to get doctrine ships half an hour after fleet has undocked.

On the other hand when I’ve flown with Wrecking Machine its generally all been far more organised.

Sure, but its an example, insert whatever timeframe you need, the point is people might not have time free to commit to a fleet that day, but can play an hour of VG etc

What can you even achieve in EVE within just 3 hours? Just undocking and flying few system eats a half a hour lol.

I mean thats potentially 3 hours of incursion running, mining fleets, joining a fleet to go run FW content, its only the null guys who take 3 hours to get anything going lol
