I said potentially
WiS, while appealing to me is imho lethal to us …lore wise. The whole point we are called capsuleers is because we are sealed 24/7 in a burn scanner chamber called capsule …or pod.
The moment we step out of pod - in flesh - we subject ourselves to certain death from which there is no coming back.
I think some lore justification was missing for WiS to stay with us. And Carbon hardware requirements could played their part here too.
To keep us sane and socialize WiS could be achieved in accordance with lore as telepresence. We as infomorphs interact with each other via small camera drones roaming stations or planets.
Our outside world appearance is a hologram projected by those drones equipped with holoprojectors.
The cosmetics we buy are just digital skins for our digital avatars we see instead of said telepresence camera drones.
That assumes Vanguard missions are actually going to be shorter. I still have a whole bunch of un-answered questions on Vanguard. Not least…who is going to be looking after your ship in space while you go down to the surface…or will your ship be able to land…in which case who protects it, and can it be blown up on the surface, and so on. Also, what component of Vanguard will be PvE, PvP, etc, or will it be all one or the other.
That could be resolved by having the station character simply be a ‘hard light’ hologram, like the doctor in Star Trek : Voyager.
Nobody, you’re not using your capsuleer character
Your ships won’t interact with the game as it stands
There is a longstanding lore precedent for having capsuleers leave their pods for awhile, not least because being so intimately linked with a ship tends to play havoc with your sense of self and that being in a pod isnt exactly a comfortable experience for hundreds of hours at a time.
Think of a long car ride. You need to stretch your physical and mental legs every so often.
The latter half of A Burning Life is entirely dedicated to how much security is between any regular person and a Capsuleer’s private sanctum.
From what was answered mostly in EVE Discord by CCP Shortfall (eve discord → #vg-general, eve discord → #vg-feedback ) , Vanguard character and EVE characters are distinct. Vanguards use warclone technology. They are pure infomorphs jumping from dead body into a balnk one in an instant without the aid of a burn scanner. They have no hangars no ships.
They are dropped to the planet surface in the pods:
My theory (not CCP’s, mind you) is that the coming back from the planet is resolved by focusing some sort of orbit receiver (at POCO, some new satellite tech?) into marked area and beaming vanguard infomorph back into the virtual space along with fetched goods plus the warclone body for later use or recycling.
I think a vanguard infomorph can beam itself back, from whereever it is into virtual space - minus warclone body or fetched goods.
There was some talk on the discord on dropped loot persistence upon vanguard infomorph loosing a warclone body with goods on it. So other vanguards could salvage it on behalf of fallen comrade or for themselves. Not set in stone ofc.
Edit no Nth:
As a reminder EVE Vanguard is not finished yet. What we are about to witness in December is not even an alpha test. So it will be buggy it will crash and burn So we are expected to give CCP a benefit of doubt
Which to me sounds like a very well written excuse for “We don’t know how to have your character exist ingame”
Its also why i’m not going to be playing it because i’m not interested in something set in the same SINGLE UNIVERSE where i can’t continue to use my own legacy, i excused it when the game was a console exclusive and had sony money funding it, but this time its on PC, there is zero valid excuse for this
Hold on a sec, I hope it is just for tests so. There is lots of tricks to pull out of magic lore tophat and find the way to use warclone tech as a capsuleer. Let they have the time to figure it out. We could press new CSM18 (mention forbidden for me ) to discuss this with CCP maybe?
Edit: petition to CSM for same character in EVE Vanguard
If you want to make a successful game then you need the make the colors pop. But Vanguard is being marketed as a dark game with little color, and the environment is mostly fire and some large structure that has been destroyed. That is not an environment people yearn to go and play in imo.
You can argue EVE online is a dark game color wise but it redeems itself with the icons and the old UI which had color. So I strongly advise CCP to stop pursing this path of no color and what not. It isnt attractive.
Yeah, and what did the above game look like in Alpha? Not it’s final polished state…but in alpha?
Meh…Fallout 3 was 95% bland irradiated desert yet managed to be one of the most popular games of all time.
There is plenty of color and light in Fallout 3. You are just a troll lying and making excuses for CCP
The video is not about the color and light but its in-game footage and you can judge for yourself if it has any
But if you think making a game that is 95% irradiated desert is going to be a success go ahead
Speaking of irradiation… S.T.A.L.K.E.R anyone? Even it has plenty of color and light. But judge for yourself?

And thats about as much effort i want to put into making this point. take care.
On that planet, they aren’t all going to look like that, also, EVE is dark and gritty so it fits with the actual aesthetic, can’t really compare that to cyberpunk lol
EVE is not dark and gritty. Its space. And space is space. But look at the icons and the ship models those are the biggest parts of players visual experience when they play. They are spectacular for the most part. Minerals for example. Its eye candy as far as im concerned
Also random screenshot of inventory. Clearly the goal was not to be dark and gritty because games like that just arent as interesting.
