First make an option to disable it even if it is on by default (because of the “think of the children” excuse) then if later you make it worthwhile the people who turned it off will opt in.
Genuine question- with community trust on the floor, why in insistence to force unwanted, unfinished features on us? I get that you might think the the feature in it’s finished state might be eventually liked, but there are numerous other simple changes that need to be addressed, changes that people actually want.
Anyone else not recieving all the skill points from this bonus weekend?
People would be less desperate to disable it if you haven’t changed it for worse so we now have to play a “Where’s Waldo” game to find new items in our hangar.
Yes the auto sorting changes have been problematic. If everything showed up at the bottom of the inventory like it normally does then that would be great. Instead everything sorts itself and gets all mixed together.
For example in our corp all loot from PVP fleets is placed in a hangar to give out to people later if they need it or sell to provide ships. Before if i looted it would place at the bottom and I would easily know what was mine vs what was loot to drop in the hangar. Now with the ever changing sorting methods it mixes everything together so I have to go through all the items to figure out what was already mine and what to place in the hangar.
The red dot just screams “mobile game” UI. It’s necessary because people only play a mobile game for a limited time frame, so they need to have their attention drawn to certain spots on a cluttered screen. It’s completely unnecessary, and done rather inelegantly, in Eve. Redesign all missions to a standard for mission loot acquisition, or make it part of the beginning tutorial with pointer arrows.
Market update now rounds your bid but sometimes you want to round down then confirm and the actual prize is higher. Please give final price before commiting else you have no idea to with price you confirm. So please first show price that will be set and then confirm.
- Make it literally any color except red.
- Either do not highlight the neocom inventory button, or make the highlight much smaller. The huge dots on neocom redeem queue and neocom inventory are quite obtrusive. I suggest moving the neocom inventory dot to the ship HUD inventory icon (near the views/scanners buttons) when undocked, and to the station panel when docked.
- If I click a red dot on the words Item Hangar in my inventory, it should clear all red dots in that hangar. When I have hundreds or thousands of new entries I have to scroll and mouseover them all to delouse.
- Add an inventory filter that shows me only new items. When I have hundreds or thousands of old entries, and one new entry, I have to scroll carefully and look closely for the dot.
How to improve the red dot+gong+popup system ? 1) by giving us the ability to disable it and for those who do want to use it 2) make its behavior consistent aka logical.
It feels like the whole reason of its existence is based on “new players can’t find their items”. After looking for one item they will remember how to find items for the rest of their days, without red dots.
But above all else: please do NOT get rid of the existing, solidly working and flexible notification system. There are reasons why CCP karkur and the team she was part of designed it that way, persistent user request being one of the major ones. In that respect, I do not believe the users’ requests have changed at all.
I understand that it is hard for people to be told that their time and effort is unappreciated, it must really suck for the devs that did this work to read these comments.
BUT
I do not recall ever seeing any request from the players for a feature like this. Outside the edge case you mentioned (new players) I doubt many people like it or want it.
Do CCP really want to see all the Red Dot meme’s that are out there? Do management think this is good PR? With the radical changes being made to the game (minerals / market) there are already plenty of negative things being said about Eve and CCP.
Just let us turn it off and get an easy win, please.
I feel the red dot has become a laser sight on our poor new CCP’er.
I’m just curious why it’s being forced on us at all. Just because a dev thought it would be helpful to a new player doesn’t justify all the resistance to an option to disable it for those of us that aren’t new players. If it’s so awesome, how about letting people that don’t like it turn it off, and see how many are still using it when the dust settles. Whoever brain birthed the idea will be sorely disappointed. Without a disable option, there’s nothing you can do that will make many of us like it. Being forced to endure the distraction of it is enough to keep me from changing my mind about it at all, and I’ll bet I’m not alone…
Every time i see it makes me feel like that ^^^^^^^^
This. I have items in the Redeem queue that I have intentionally decided not to redeem yet. Because the notification ALWAYS tells me I have 7+ new items, I have no idea when a new-new item is added.
CTRL-A to select all items should clear it up with the least fuss.
Great idea. The new item notification doesn’t persist long enough if I’m actively using it to sort new items into DIFFERENT containers. I could select all new items to move into ONE container, thanks to CCP Reverting the auto-sort change , but if I have to pick and choose, the act of hovering while deciding what to do, clears the notification. If I select another container to review its contents, and return to Item Hanger, items resort and I’ve lost track of new ones.
@CCP_Aurora, welcome to the zoo. Veterans are full of pain points with the game, threads grow to unreadable lengths for developers, and sometimes players just give up complaining: bitter-vet syndrome. Thanks for trying to Keep Hope Alive.
They already know we want to be able to turn it off. That’s the problem. Someone thinks this is such a great idea that we’ll eventually learn to like it. They obviously have not read through the forums here or on reddit… Welcome, btw
Only as long as she’s willing to be the only one willing to wade into the conversation, since the rest of them won’t get anywhere near the subject…
Make it a bit smaller (like a ‘small’ triangle in the bottom right corner of the neocom button).
The current red dot is about the size of the button and totally obscures it.
Change it to or and we can talk
How about an email survey on the UI change. If someone is brave enough to force the change on us, they should be brave enough to handle the feedback…
