Patch Notes for March 2020 Releases

Well my decision to change my account to world of tanks was prudent on my part. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

So go crap on their forums insteadā€¦

Nah Balos is there as well, Iā€™m sure of it.

You canā€™t improve it to the point most of us wont desperately want to turn it off. Thatā€™s the problem, believing weā€™ll just learn to love it. Itā€™s annoying. It doesnā€™t have value other than to inconvenience me with distracting dots, noise and crazy sort patterns in my hangar, sometimes at really inconvenient moments. Iā€™d like to turn it off. Why is that a problem? It might be helpful for a new player, but even then I bet it gets disabled after a week. Not every idea implemented in this game is a good idea. Iā€™m sorry. This one wasnā€™t a good idea. It happens. People tune everything about the UI to their preferences. Itā€™s full of info, its crowded. There are lots of customizationā€™s we can make to have things work and look like we need it to. Changing the UI affects everyone, no exceptions. Adding a bug/feature like this then trying to make it an ā€˜improvementā€™ after the fact was a really poor plan.

Possible Glitch in the Market Changes. Are old Margin Orders calculating correctly.

Iā€™ve noticed two things about the Market Orders that I havenā€™t seen anyone post on this thread, concerning the recent changes. I would appreciate a heads up, an acknowledgement, either here, or private message, that says Hey weā€™re looking into it, or We are aware, or even, Noā€¦ thatā€™s how its supposed to be.

Market Orders created with Characters that had Margin Skill, and the Order was created before the Patch and the Market Mechanics changes. The Actions taken after patch.

One: I cancelled a few Market Orders, and didnā€™t receive any of the Escrow back. One order should have returned around 40M to the account, but it shows up in the Transaction ledger, 0 ISK released. Is that correct? Or is that a problem that is being worked on?

Two: To my surprise, another Buy Order, but this time, the item was bought. Hooray. Buy price 135M. Transaction History shows 134.7 M Market Escrow Authorized. And yes, the amount in the wallet was reduced by that amount. So wait a minute. Margin Level 3 created that order. A lot more than 300K was required to create an order for a 135M item. So why was 134.7M taken out to buy it?

It seems like there are some glitches with the old orders. Is that the case?

Itā€™s my place to help act as a bridge between you guys and the development teams - I know I will take a bit of heat in the process sometimes. But I do honestly want peopleā€™s opinions to be heard.

Ok, probably you should be reading forum then everything was already put down.

The fact that weā€™re so desperate to disable it should be a warning flag in itself.
You canā€™t polish a turd. Red Dot notification is exhibit A.
Itā€™s already being altered and trimmed so much that in the end (hopefully) you wont even know its there. So much for a little testing before deployment, right?

Best improvements?

  1. Remove all visually distracting red dots.
  2. Remove irritating sound associated with red dot.
  3. Remove crazy unpredictable sorting of hangar and cargo caused by red dot.

Fixed it for yaā€™ no charge. That was easy.

If they arenā€™t going to remove it or allow it to be disabled, either someone is mad that it didnā€™t turn out to be hailed as some great new feature, or something else is eventually going to be sold using in your face Red Dot technology and therefore we must all be bothered by it all of the time. Forever.

Weā€™re not going to let you get away with this. Weā€™re going to harp on it forever. Otherwise we will next be seeing other useless UI features added with no regard for the players, like pokemon icons instead of ship icons, or some other crazy useless crap.

Perhaps we could let citadel owners set up their citadels like myspace, and play annoying music and flash pictures of their cats across the screen every time you dock. To make the new players feel at easeā€¦

First, welcome as the new community dev. Itā€™d be nice to get things a bit more like the atmosphere of BRAVE in the forums. Best of luck!

I donā€™t think Iā€™ve seen one post that was positive about the red dots.

Not one.

Itā€™s abundantly clear that the community really doesnā€™t want this ā€œfeatureā€. The devs should be made aware that a tutorial on finding new items for new players would be much more effective and it would even help with how new players interact with the market when they search for something to buy.

I still have to search for a module after Iā€™ve bought it, even with the dots on it.
If Iā€™m looking for it after Iā€™ve gotten rid of the dot, I yet again need to use the search tool. The dot has really not improved anything. Sorry for to dev that had to program the dots, but your time was wasted.

The easiest solution would be to scrap the red dots.
The easiest compromise, if someone is adamnant on having this in the game, would be to allow us to disable the red dots or at least change the colour.

yeah, but they want to know each time an update happens and theyā€™ve made a change - if the community is still irritated. Community Developers report to management about ā€œcommunity sentimentā€ on a regular basis. Its easier to drop into a sullen bitter vet mode and stop providing feedback, I do it frequently enough. But if CCP doesnā€™t know WHY players are still irritated about different things, those things will surely never change.

Red should be reserved for things that require urgent attention, maybe blue would be better and still fit the general theme (and follow the forum colours too).

If I move something from one of my inventory locations to another, it doesnā€™t need a notification, but if something is moved for me, or I acquire something new, it should.

Should there be a notification?

  • Moving items between my containers/cargo in a station/structure: no
  • Moving items between corporation locations in a station/structure: no
  • Moving items between personal and corporation locations in a station/structure: no
  • Looting a wreck/container manually: no
  • Looting a wreck/container via ā€œloot allā€: no (but thereā€™s an argument for yes)
  • Scooping a deployed structure (MTU/depot): no
  • Mining/gas harvesting: no
  • Moving items into fleet hangar in someone elseā€™s ship: yes (for the ship owner)
  • Mission items (granted or rewards): yes
  • Items from direct station trades: yes
  • Market purchases: yes
  • Items acquired from Contracts: yes
  • Items acquired from Hypernet: yes
  • Items acquired from LP store: yes
  • Delivered results from manufacturing/research: yes
  • Delivered blueprints from manufacturing/research jobs: yes
  • Salvaging: yes
  • Opened crates (eg firework+launcher crates): yes
  • Redeemed items: yes
  • Items from asset safety: yes

Agreed. I would prefer an option to have it on if Im on a long looting/traveling/salvaging, ninjing journey as when ninjing, often you dont even have time to do much more than scoop n poop

This sums it up nicely, and I second the color change request. Green or blue would be more appropriate, I think.

Uhhh what youā€™re describing would be a massive issue. Do I need to be doing a full audit on each transaction I make?

And you know why it is like that, bc it was simpler from dev point of view to put a notification on any new item in cargo space regardless of its source. I suppose to make it optional should be really easy, canā€™t appreheand why CCP resist.

Becauseā€¦ every button costs money over time, not just the one time itā€™s created. It has to be added to a test matrix and be checked by automation (additional coding) and/or manually. Automation can break and need fixing due to behind-the-scenes code changes. EVE has a LOT of buttons in it. We once had audio volume sliders for nearly every sound effect; these were consolidated to fewer options some time ago.

Personally I look at the month of :red_circle: meme rage since the feature was introduced, and think that damage to the EVE brand is worth the testing expense. But some accountant may be pushing back with ā€œWell, if we make a few small changes and complaints die down after a month - problem solved.ā€ The post volume on the subject is way down, and the front page of Reddit is practically back to normal. Is that happiness, or exhaustion?

Post on reddit more, that site gets excellent turnaround time from the devā€™s.

As a full clear mission runner, for godā€™s sake, disable it for salvaging (and looting).

Iā€™ll admit, that one was an awkward decisions for me. On the one hand, thereā€™s a lot of red dots when salvaging, but on the other, items are being put into my cargo without any notification of what they are, so a red dot is potentially useful.

Without the audio, I think the dots from salvaging wouldnā€™t be a problem and so I think there should be separate toggles for the dots and dings.

In all the discussion, I heard one valid argument for the red dot.
Itā€™s the deliveries hangar, because items get there all the time, and should be normally moved out of it asap, so knowing itā€™s not empty is actually useful.

Everywhere else, I donā€™t want it. To the point that if anything isnā€™t done about it soon, I might start researching how to disable it in less EULA-compliant way, and release my findings.
