Dont ask what happened with their EVE tv series…
You would have to do that yourself, or pay for that with your princess funds.
Discord is NOT replacing what WiS would do anyway. That means players avatars and interactions outside writing and talking. It should bring INCENTIVES, MOTIVATION, REASON. Players using it because they cant have it anywhere else, something new and not yet experienced, but needed and alluring.
On the subject of discord and WiS just imagine the limitless possibilities if a full WiS experience was implemented…
No. But it provides most of the functionality at more convenience.
What I’m trying to explain is that the little extra that wis provides over chat channels is:
-
only wanted by a minority of players. (exotic dancers and space barbie). Far fewer people than you are willing to admit.
-
not worth the effort. (requires a whole second game to be built and bolted on).
I don’t see this changing until CCP decide to make the second game. At that point wis becomes more worthwhile because they’ll be making the engine, models etc anyways.
So let me get this straight. Your argument is that the main reason players use Discord is because the in game channels are unreliable, but running another program on the computer, such as Discord, is laggy (and therefore unreliable) because of the EVE client?
That sounds like a pretty crazy argument.
However, Discord works on phones, tablets and computers. Even people playing EVE on a potato of a machine can still communicate on discord.
No, I didn’t say that.
And yet, the communities that form in EVE (and on other platforms to create communities in EVE), have multiple reasons to be a community and often do multiple things because of the functionality that out of game comms provides and always has provided.
Yes I’m saying that’s not a major factor for out of game comms. IRC clients have been used for years. Discord, slack and other more modern software has replaced the older IRC clients, not the in game channels.
I have no clue who you are talking about. I simply posted to enquire where you were getting it from that the major reason discord is used is because of the performance of the in game channels. You still haven’t actually answered that.
I’d say it still is a game with a soul. We still regularly get game world news updates, and the RP community, though small comparative to the rest of the game, remains heavily dedicated.
An adage I very much ascribe to also is, that you can roleplay with just your guns or your other in-game activity(and in-fact many do, without realizing it) in a setting like eve.
Hell, even players losing their ■■■■ or not making perfect sense in line with the universe is even explained in the game lore as capsuleer psychosis… so there is that.
In 1901 cars had no rooves, doors, didnt come in any colour and the majority of people didnt want them.
Which is why we dont have them today.
I find it funny that people are saying that no one used captains quarters and that is why it was discontinued. If they had built on it further who knows where it would have gone. That so many people used it for so long when there was limited things to do and a time cost in using it, indicates that there was real interest in it.
Bear in mind that the graph shown is likely character based and of course excessive multi-boxers which make a large chunk of Eve’s characters would never have used that. At a rough guess from that if it is based on characters, around 30% of actual players used it for an extended period of time.
But that is of course my interpretation
CCPlease. . .launch Eve Classic. . . brings us back to the Golden Years.
On topic, Walking in Stations was a much awaited feature back then. They talked about it for years, always nice trailers at the fanfests/keynotes, but never anything more than the captain’s quarters.
I think in the end someone said it was more or less a tech demo for another game that CCP was working on, but was ultimately cancelled.
From there it was just a drain on development and quality assurance resources with no concrete plans to ever expand it, so it was removed from Eve.
If you want something like Eve with Walking in Stations, best you can do at the moment is Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen, or No Man’s Sky. …some others in the works, but those come to mind.
It just isn’t going to happen in New Eden, unless CCP decides to create a new game.
I think CCP was weighing the amount of effort needed to keep the codebase updated and functional, compared to the usability of the feature and player usage. Kind of the same argument used for discontinuing the in-game browser. From a software development perspective, I can understand the struggle and the reasoning. In my own opinion, WiS should never have been introduced to the game in the state it was in. It was an incomplete feature, that was more a gimmick than anything else.
That being said, not sure where those developer hours went. One can hardly say, that they went towards improving the game.
Whether actually 30% of players used the feature is up for debate. Only CCP knows the real numbers. I for one, never used WiS, except for that one time one checked it out as a complete newbie.
This was one of the things that really helped divide the community and kill WiS.
The idea that WiS would not be optional.
It’s a no win situation, if WiS has nothing unique then why use it, if it has something unique then it becomes required and a lot of people don’t want that.
Veldspar isnt optional also. Thats not the reason to remove it.
You don’t have to convince me, I am only telling you what has already occured!
I think that WIS would still be optional, just unique experience. Just like not everyone have to use implants all the time.
Pochven is totally optional but we still have to put up with that nonsense.
optional unless you log in after a long break, and your home is now trig infested.
Still extremely easy to leave any time you want. You fillet o fish out. And thats that.
It really bother me that you think that would be a good thing.
I think it would be problematic but for different reasons than you might, as the kind of RP that EVE breeds is a lot differwnt than the kind that you’d find in WoW, and while I’d be happy to see an influx of RPers especially,EVE is also a setting where the RP and player activity to a large extent can and does end up as some level of canon, something non-existent in most other MMO type games @Pan_Dora1
