Quantum Cores - Updates begin 8 September

Amazingly this update has nothing to do with gankers at all, other than possibly the chance of ganking a hauler. Which is hardly anything new and fairly easy to manage.
Raging and throwing in buzz words like ganker really doesn’t make your argument have any strength when it’s the wrong buzz words.

Edit for patch notes
@Arrendis & others who were wondering.

From the Patch notes.

Medium quantum cores seem a little too small compared with the Large
Shouldn’t the size be larger?

interesting is , that quantum cores starts with medium size.
Smaller upwells planned?

Astrahus, Raitaru, and Athanor are medium-sized.

Has been this way since Upwell first released.

There has always been hope of a small structure class, like something that can take the place of a small control tower: compact, provides protection, and only minutes to anchor.

CCP’s idea of small may have been ‘Flex’ structures though.

It’s called a mobile depot.

Those are not Upwell though.

They also don’t provide any protection, like a small tower does (standard tower: 7.5 minutes to anchor while indestructible, 7.5 minutes to online while half shield HP but no forcefield).

Who cares if they aren’t upwell? CCP didn’t say Upwell were going to do every kind of structure.
What they did say however was that they weren’t trying to replicate everything POS had with new structures. Only the broad categories of features. Some abilities of POS they want to sunset.

Nothing with a “maximal lifetime” is an upwell.

Cool story bro.

Just another episode of CCP trying to force all the independant players into big blocks by threatening them with gankers.

Basically, screw you guys. Fly into a moon. o7

I really could not have said that better.

I really don’t get what’s going on in that company. First the EDENCOM ships for Triglavian invasions that can’t be used for Triglavian invasions… Then the HORRIBLE game balance STILL happening in Caldari invasions. Now they’re just like “screw small and indy corps. only big alliances are allowed to have structures now. oh and they can still structure spam, because screw players who don’t want to be in null.”

Guess what CCP. I’ve done null. It ain’t that great. Stop trying to force us into your little pidgeon holes. I thought this was supposed to be a sandbox. Is it only a sandbox when we do what you want us to? Cus that’s what it seems like lately.

You don’t.

Much of your post was spot on, but I had to chime in about 2 of those 3 points right there.

Sure there’s no sound in space, but we’re capsuleers inside a pod filled with pod goo and attached by multiple cables to the ship, essentially. We’re seeing our ship from the outside with camera drones that we control and the sounds are presumably generated by the ship (or pod) computers… like fx in a sci-fi movie, fittingly enough.

Annnnd… as to PI: I assume you mean the fact that we can just dig anywhere means we’re either killing people on the surface or else there ARE no people on the surface, but… on any temperate planet in EVE, if you look at the dark side you can see the lights of cities. So at least on temperates, yes… people are living on the surfaces.

There’s even a chronicle about a capsuleer ordering the people on the surface to do this and that with the PI, IIRC. So I think it’s safe to say that in all cases where people can’t live on a planet, the PI is mostly automated, but in cases where people can, it’s probably a mix of automation and actual people helping with your PI.

No, but as Tau said, there are medium, large, and extra large upwell structures… meaning the gap at small is quite notable, and even if CCP meant for it to refer to MD and MTU type things (and mobile MJD units and siphons and the like)… there is still room for lots of other small sized mobile structures.

Good.

I’m disappointed they aren’t removable. They should be removable if the structure isn’t damaged, either as part of a move op, or more deviously, as a way to shut down the services of a station via spy/betrayal.

Is there any word from CCP on what exactly will be disabled in existing structures if we cannot install cores in them?

From the devblog linked in the OP:

Without a core installed, ship fitting, tethering, and ship/module repair services will be disabled.

Is this the official list though? Like, my onlined station services will still work? What I’m getting at is, if I don’t need the station for ship fitting, tethering, or repair, can I just never install a core?

That’s what the devblog and CCP Ratati’s post say:

Quantum Cores - Updates begin 8 September.

I’m not sure how more official it gets.
