Don’t worry, they have a history of negelcting areas of space that are nullsec controlled by massive blocs, too.
Interesting change, but would be even better if those were manufactured to be more integrated in the economic system. As they are, seeded in station, they just feel like an isk pile.
Also 500 m3 sounds really small, 10 000 would be more interesting logistics wise.
And 80% drop chance because 100 certainty isn’t fun ^^
Time to start moving my clones to NPC stations… one per 20hrs…
No. Wow, this is a horrible idea.
NPC seeded means it acts as an isk sink (one that the game desperately needs), and it prevents people from turning these cores into a negligible “oh, we’ll just farm it with a thousand rorquals” type commodity.
Rule of thumb for the forums. Anyone who uses the word “interesting” in support of proposing a change is proposing a shitty and terribly change. This rule remains true here.
More evidence that you didn’t even read the entire dev blog.
1000 m = 1 km
(1000 m)³ = 1 km³
1 000 000 000 m³ = 1 km³
I know they meant 50k m³, but they still got it wrong.
I would say, this incoming stuff is surely an interesting change in EVE.
However, this would be a heavy burden to face for small corporations - never ending war dec incoming.
And of course after probably 2 years you will somehow regret this change, CCP, and you’ll try to reverse it by another update. That’s how you develop this game, unfortunately.
So, just to be clear. Added ISK cost to structure maintenance with no benefit for the structure? Now why would I be excited about this as an eve player? Someone please explain to me how this makes life in New Eden better.
Thanks
Fal
It’s an isk sink attached to structure ownership that effects everyone. If they cant defend their structure, maybe they should recruit, form allies or not have structures and let other organizations assume the risk of structure ownership.
A large chunk of my EVE career has been one as a member of a treehouse corp of ignorant players wanting to try to learn the game on their own and ultimately had to business fielding a structure since we didn’t have the knowledge or experience or arsenal or cohesion with which to defend it, so I have a good idea of how badly this is going to hurt “the little guys”. Having said that… I think this is a good change, and here is why:
- This should serve as a deterrent to those who have no business fielding one from doing so due to increased cost and wardec liability. They’re going to have to acquire more knowledge, experience, materiel, and establish better fleet cohesion among their members in order to justify the expense. Or they better have the funds to hire mercs.
- Smaller groups now have more incentive to wardec other smaller groups since the ROI of the Quantum Cores (ISK value + fun) will be worth the wardec effort.
- This increases the number of onlining battles (moreso between warring megablocs than between smaller warring groups). Why?
- A defense fleet may be required to defend the person installing the core.
- The person installing the core may arrive late, which prolongs the hull vulnerability period.
- This will discourage cancerous 69ing, which is where major powers are anchoring numerous structures all over the place “just because they can” rather than because it is in their strategic for them to do so. (Recently one major power anchored 69 Astrahuses because “69 is a funny number” - I believe an enemy leader made that remark so the effort was made out of spite)
I’m sure there are other benefits I neglected to list.
A few ideas that could be made to make this change healthier:
- Ships cannot tether to structures they cannot dock at (eg. Titan cannot tether at a Raitaru). This will complement nicely with the decreased viability of 69ing, which is still feasible even after this change given the wealth of the null megablocs (these added fees are “beer money” for them)
- It may be simpler to offer a smaller variety of cores and simply have some structures require more of them. This would also help address WH concerns… then again, it may be a healthy change that XL structures be prohibited in smaller WHs.
Each time you kill a structure, you are guaranteed a payout in the form of the Core. Easy money.
I think this will cause problems cause SIGs (Special Interrest Group), from major powerblocks will make life hell for anybody not able to form less then 100 people in a fleet. Since they just opperate out of NPC space close their target. Then going to kill structures around to make some ISK while they aren’t at war with one another therefor making eve landscape less diverse.
Every citadel kill I’ve been involved in so far has dropped more than 600m loot. There are always at least some t2 haulers, closing battleships etc inside. And usually some stuff from inactive corp members.
So another 600m guaranteed loot on top of that is not going to make us suddenly waste many hours of our time on boring sieges of undefended structures.
The point of the change is obviously to stop people spamming empty structures just to bait or harass other players, and for that it might be effective.
…you realize that it’s still pretty annoying to kill structure, right? This doesn’t make it any easier.
If they can kill structure WITH this change, then they would have been able to kill your structures already without this change.
This change changes almost nothing for the major powers. It might make defending some structures worth it compared to now… but its not going to affect the major powers at all.
Oh and now I have to move my caps to NPC’s, I dont know about you super and titan people I feel REALLY bad for you guys/gals.
Don’t. We’re fine and this doesn’t change anything for us.
Edit: kids these days and their need to feel offended for someone else. What is this, Tumblr?
Given that ships can tether at structures they cannot dock at, I agree it probably won’t bother them. However, if that were to change, they probably wouldn’t bother with the expense since they couldn’t retreat their caps there for tethering.
It probably will keep SOME of the structure spam from occurring, which is clearly the primary intent. A solid secondary/side effect is that unattended (but not abandoned) structures will all become viable targets from a profit perspective. Anything undefended becomes a guaranteed loot drop. A year from now nobody will care that this change happened.
well, no more 100 station drop fests…
