The idea is actually very smart. It’s however my opinion that such a module outsmarts the way mining in EVE is intended to be played.
I’m guessing OP is hogging the overview for 4 hours in fear. I couldn’t play like this either. Luckily am I more relaxed as well have friends who I chat with who keep me alert. Mining in EVE as a single-player game would definitely be dreadful for me to play.
Even as you are chatting though, you aren’t paying enough attention to the overview or D scan. And when you don’t, you are prone to getting ganked without being able to respond in any meaningful way.
And that’s just bad game design.
This toon does spend an inordinate amount of time mining, particularly since W-space moon mining became a thing.
And there are rarely more than a few people on so it’s mostly a multitasking, multigaming or even AFK thing.
If you want my actual motive, I like improving games. I’d have been a game designer if I wasn’t actually helping people with my real job.
Someone posted in the cloaky AFK thread about AFK mining and I spent about 20 mins trying to solve the problem. I can probably find you the link if you doubt this.
Mining is a huge thing in this game. There are probably about 50k miners whose enjoyment of the game would be hugely improved by this suggestion.
There are huge problems with PvP too, but PvP is a really deep and complex part of the game. I don’t feel I know enough about it to solve them.
@Ima_Wreckyou So that’s 4 ad hominem attacks and 0 counterarguments.
What if we made mining like data, or relic site running, so you had to find the veins of ore in the asteroid instead of the data core?
Each asteroid has so many veins to mine out before it is a hunk of valueless rock.
Thus making mining more engaging and active.
Would that be good enough for everyone to agree on as being a half way decent solution?
Towards getting miners more active and wanting to e more active?
Let’s pretend that your idea does in fact make mining fun and exciting. Let’s pretend CCP implements it. If this is so fun you can assume that more people would mine. However in your OP, you stated that the payout for mining isn’t good. All you’d achieve is a lower payout as more people want to get in on this new fun. Also, if ship destruction is lowered as a result, it is not unreasonable to expect that your buyers need to purchase your goods would decrease as well. This would further compound your poor rate of return.
I addressed the minigame problem in the OP as well as a third of the way down in the thread. The main issues are:
Minigames generally suck. Even the hacking one, which is about as good as I’ve seen, is something you don’t want to spend more than 15 mins on per day.
Well then you misinterpreted. My only point was that the low isk/hour is made acceptable by the fact you do it AFK/multitasking.
I think it is safe to assume that CCP would look at anything related to #2 in relation to any change they make.
It’s always secondary to gameplay, plus the market balances itself.
Secondly, this is a huge argument against introducing a minigame.
If miners were compelled to play some minigame for 4 hours, most would quit. Ore and gas prices would triple. I think CCP would be more concerned about that than eg a 30% drop in ore/gas prices.
I wouldnt bother attempting to reason with him. He’s like those customers you get stuck behind in a line at a grocery store. You know, the ones that are obviously extremely wrong, and so obliviously stupid, they cant see it. At this point the ISD might as well lock this thread since it’s lost any chance at being productive. Especially when the OP is asking CCP to introduce a module that is quite likely the same in function as the programming behind mining bots. Seems rather odd, doesnt it?
I am trying to offer productive solutions, however try as I might, I am met with something to the following in effect… for the most part.
(You can’t do that because you are stupid and should learn to play) (You are a bad player so your opinion dosn’t count) (You are challenging the status quo and I’m one of those that will be affected, You can’t do that because it will make it harder for me, so I’m going to say you are making it easier of a group of other payers in a subset that I think is inferior and use clever word play to make you react negatively to me and make you look stupid to validate myself)
I just want to be apart of a productive discussion with constructive criticism for once.
Its only fair to offer everyone an even playing field. I propose to your proposal,
PVP Players need 3 different audible warnings:
For non-active miners in local.
For AFK players on overview.
For Mining vessels appearing to be AFK on D scan (refreshed automagically).
None of this provides information that isn’t already in the game.
Let’s say this could be done as a module that is only available to PVP ships (read:All). Yes, it is a significant buff to pvp but mining ship abilities could be nerfed to compensate.
You’re welcome for weeding out your competition. Anyone mining is your competition. Especially AFK miners since they will horde the isk generated from mining and create a shortage of isk for the rest of us players who want to actively play.
If I claim that you’re a time traveler that murdered Hitler, will you
try to prove me wrong using scientific methods?
point out how ridiculous that is and that it makes no sense?
ignore me, like everyone else that isn’t trolling the ■■■■ out of you is doing here?
Time traveler killing Hitler isn’t a really good analogy, because your “idea” is even more ridiculous than that. It really doesn’t warrant the time spent on coming up with a counter-argument (which we did) that you’re just going to whine about because it doesn’t support your moronic viewpoint (which you do with literally every post).
The collective intelligence on MOBA forums is about equal to that of an underdeveloped teenager. The EVE forums set the bar a lot higher. If you come in here and propose something totally and utterly stupid, it will get torn to shreds. If that’s reason enough for you to throw a tantrum and run crying to your mommy when everyone’s laughing at you because of that, then frankly you don’t fit in here.
