Resource Redistribution Update

Ship price will…

ah no that fake

Hey Gang,
I started Eve 19 months ago,.I didn’t want to join a Corp at first,I just wanted to learn the mechanics.
I discovered very early in the game that I didn’t like buying stuff from other players, especially after having lost many a drone in space and having a few ships go kaboom,so I started buying BP’s and did some mining very early in the game,.and I enjoyed it,became self-suffient and started to sell stuff also,.after a few months I was established and a bit proud of that fact.
Now I do everything but PvP,.and still learning new stuff daily. My point being, with these mineral changes coming, things are going to be even harder on new players,Ships will be more expensive, the opportunity of making your own stuff is being extremely sqeeezed if not basically removed, and God forbid, don’t start off in Amarr,.I’m hoping that CCP has done the right thing,we will see,its a BIG move,.and hopefully the new player retention won’t drop more,.
Your insight is welcomed

Calm down. Things will just be different. Nothing to get worked up over.

No it won’t.

It only is harder if you make up some arbitrary rule like “I don’t like buying stuff from other players”. Eve has an amazing economy, with everything a new player could want easily available from your local trade hub. I mean you can decide to not buy from anyone, but you would then be playing Eve on ‘hard mode’ for no reason.

It’s like being some grizzled prospector who expects to not just mine some gold, but also grow his food, make his clothes and tools, and build a house. You can try to be some one-man survivalist, but it is much more… rational to specialize some and participate in the economy and trade the fruit of your labours for stuff you need.

So, yes it is even harder now to do it all. You might be able to once all the changes are in and you can supplement your needs with refining loot or day-trips to other space, but it isn’t as easy as it was before. Remember, for every OCD farmer like you there is another player who was bored out of the game by the lack of conflict over resources or trade and they might be better served by the new situation. Don’t make the mistake to think that everyone is like you and thus retention will go down - with almost every change there are some players who will like it, and some that will not.

It’s coming, so it’s time to adapt. At least come down from your mountain shack and see if you like interacting with the greater economic system before you decide this game isn’t for you anymore.

Basically buying from others on the market is a huge part of Eve Online.

I think this might make mining for new players more interesting. Instead of grinding afk in highsec, there will be a natural tendency to think “I gotta go to lowsec to get that mineral.”

That would be a great improvement, rather than the current, “why would anybody mine in losec?”

Did you edit your post before the 5mins was up? Not sure why you got flagged.

Anyway, CCP wants to make loss more meaningful. I’m not sure that’s going to work out all that well though. More expensive ships are probably going to make people more risk adverse, which might actually discourage conflict between groups, and make people being more reluctant to take fights that aren’t clearly stacked in their favor. I guess they think resource scarcity might actually push conflict, but I’m not so sure. I guess we’ll see.

Anyway, making your own stuff shouldn’t be an issue. Material prices might go up, but you’ll still pay less because you’re cutting out the middle man, and you’ll still be able to get everything you’ll need. We have some miners quitting, and the rest of new eden will need a little time to adjust, but the player base will adapt, and the spice will flow… er, I mean the ore will flow.

As you noted, it’s going to be harder to be a one-man show. It’s hard to predict in advance how the economics will work out for new players. On the one hand, the most common building material (Tritanium) is available in high sec. Everyone will need it, new players can mine it and sell it.

Exactly how that will work out will depend on just how much is mined and put up for sale vs. how much is needed. It might end up that highsec, new players miners make even more than they do now. It might end up that anyone who isn’t running two barges and an Orca gets squeezed out of the market. We’ll have to wait and see.

It’s likely that things will end up more expensive. but that’s not the same as making it impossible or impractical to play. Don’t borrow trouble, wait a bit and see how it plays out. You may not be able to do the exact same things you prefer to do now, but you’ll still be able to be active in the marketplace and gameplay.

If it turns out that the new changes are a mess (entirely possible with CCP’s low design and coding skills), then they’ll do something to bring things back on track.

It’s not the end of the world, just another crack in the facade of a poorly aging game. Adapt and overcome!

I really don’t get why some people decide to do things the hard way like this. Is it some kind of mental hangup or something?

“No, I have to make everything myself!”

But why?

Like this part:

It just doesn’t make any sense. Why would losing drones and ships make someone not want to use the market? It’s not like the market is what caused those losses, so how does that make sense?

It’s like saying “I discovered that I didn’t like buying food from grocery stores, especially after having eaten all of mine because I got hungry.” How does the one thing lead to the other thing? I just don’t get it.

Good stuff,.thanks,.
The bottom line is that new players won’t even know about the change, the Vets may talk about it down the road, thats about it.,.but,.
Being a new player,.lets say that first two week learning curve, its a big challenge to say the least. If you make a few bad decisions, and we all have, things could go down hill quickly, without complete access to those minerals will the possibility of digging out of that hole become a lot harder,.Low-Sec and WH’s with low skills and a weak ship, doesn’t sound like a good choice when ya only have 2 miilion ISK.
It is what it is,.and CCP has done a great job with the new player experience in the last year,.but making things harder,.we will see.

Will new players even care? It’s not like they’ll have the baseline of what EVE used to be like BEFORE the changes hit… This will just be their baseline normal… so…

There was no reason to flag the OP of this thread.

Seems some will do anything in an attempt to meta-game these forums into a singular viewpoint.

That’s a pity, there are a lot of solo players that play MMOs. But if CCP don’t want those players there are other MMOs they can play.

It was probably flagged as redundant - since there is already a mega thread for this.

Last night there was a very chill stream with a couple of CCP present,.,
It was very cool, totally relaxed (no salt) and I asked them about the “Lone Wolf” play style, and the ability to become self-sufficient ,.not being forced into something (like a Corp) to be able to survive,.It was a hard question,.they didn’t say much in return,.and thats ok
Some players are 'Lone Wolfs",especially starting off in a new game,.thats why I fell in love with Eve,.the possibilities were there,.and quickly if you have to,…Do I like mining?,.Hell No,but I learned at a very young game age for me to go forward by myself that I had to do it,.
My main concern is if CCP wants to be around for 10 more years,.ya need new players and everyone plays this game in a different way thats the best part about it,.but taking away simple options from new players,.sometimes ya have to keep it simple,…

They don’t want players to be self-sufficient. At least not in the sense of being able to gather everything yourself. This has already been answered by CCP.

So yeah, if one expects to gather everything oneself without market interaction, then that playstyle is being nerfed into the ground.
