Yeah, I don’t use MTU…
However I do keep a ‘Dunk’ Salvage Drone in my Drone Bay for small size wreck sites and also carry a T2 Salvager in my Cargo Hold to refit for med size wreck sites…

I really only salvage the missions worth salvaging these days:
• Damsel and Zazzmatazz (loot Zor; will occasionally loot and salvage everything)
• Dread Scarlet (loot Scarlet in 2nd room)
• Beserk (loot and salvage everything)
• Angels Extravaganza (loot silo in 4th room)
• Enemies series (loot and salvage 1 and 3-5)
Plus any storyline missions where tags drop. I also keep a flight of ‘Dunk’ salvage drones along with a Consortium tractor beam (range is awesome).
Yeah, that’s true… But to be honest I think players should at least do a little work for those easy wreck fields… If not then CCP should just re-implement Salvage sites like before, some sites had containers, some had wrecks and some had a combination of both…
Never heard of that, definitely gonna have to check it out…
Part of the Upwell upgrades. Supid expensive (40-50m), but on a Marauder it gives you a range of 56km @ 1400m/s. On a Noctis with full skills it’s well over 112km. That extra 8km range over a T2 tractor beam is enough in most missions to snag any mission objectives that you need.
Wow, thanks man, looks like I’m gonna be upgrading my salvage ships…
On a Noctis I honestly had trouble keeping up with the Consortium tractor beams (especially with a ‘Packrat’ in the mix as well).
You running T2 Salvagers?
Cuz 3 of those on my Noctis keeps up with 5x T2 Tractors…
Basically working my Noctis is a continuous click fest for a few minutes, then it’s done. In fact it takes longer to align and warp to and from the site than it does to actually clean up the site, lol…
Edit:
Now you got me again, just exactly what is that?
When I was running a Noctis for salvaging (within the last month or so), I was - yes. But I was running the Consortium tractor beams along with a ‘Packrat’ MTU - so it was very hard to keep up (even with a flight of ‘Dunk’ salvage drones auto-salvaging as well).
I liked to run a T2 signal amplifier in one of the lows as it gave me +2 targets, locking speed and target range (which you need with the Consortium tractor beams).
If you could fit a medium MJD on the Noctis that would be a really QoL upgrade.
. . . . .
The ‘Packrat’ is the uber-meta version of the MTU. Again, expensive at 30m - but it tractors @ 1,250m/sec. I like to think of it as my 6th “unofficial” tractor beam…
. . . . .
You probably already know this, but if you launch your salvage drones before you lock any targets - then engage them - they’ll auto-salvage any wrecks and continue to do so as long as any wrecks are within their range. 5 ‘Dunk’ drones roughly works out to an extra T2 salvager.
So with a ‘Packrat’ and ‘Dunks’, you end up with the equivalent of 6x tractors and 4x salvagers.
. . . . .
As I mentioned, I don’t really use my Noctis anymore because there’s not too much that I salvage (it’s almost always more efficient from an ISK/hour standpoint to just run another mission). Apologies for the short wall of text…
If you’re that invested in salvaging, try upgrading those ‘Dunk’ drones to T2 drones. It’s quite a big upgrade in salvage chance (16-24% vs 14.5%).
While this is a small difference against easy wrecks, it can make a huge difference against tougher wrecks where some wrecks will be impossibly hard for ‘Dunk’ drones but not for T2.
Thanks for the Consortium Tractor beam hint, I didn’t know they were added! Maybe I should add one to my Noctis for that one wreck that always is just outside my range.
Expensive lol.
How about making blue wrecks scannable? Seems like the perfect bait trap?
What about the ability to drop a warpable beacon? (with a 30-min to 1-hour cooldown, to prevent spam) Or, as an alternative - are there any cheap (current) mobile units that can be scanned down that could be used instead? (other than a MTU)
What about not adding a feature that would be open to abuse anyhow unless it’s completely rendered useless ?
See my second suggestion, ie: are there any cheap mobile units (other than a MTU) that can be easily scanned down?
honestly we should repurpose the noctis, as much as i love the old clunker, having a nano ninja salvage fit is much more the feel, its faster, and depending on where you are and what your fit is, just as effective.
i made a post some time ago which had ideas for adding cores to allow for better reprocessing over time or restoring previously destroyed ships
fun idea, but goes against the nature of the game, once a ship is destroyed, it shouldn’t be able to come back.
you can achieve salvaging with a nano ninja salvager and still get good ISK
in my mind the noctis is bulky, slow, ugly.
instead of salvaging wrecks in space, it could be upgraded and substantially improved to work with skyhooks, ESS banks and planets, allowing players to launch planet based salvage missions to recover crashed ships, slap smuggling in there for good measure.
instead of drones upgrade its defensive capabilities with fighters and give it some kind of buff to all the things
mechanically this would make it a slow, tanky and with some reasonable capability to defend itself, a ship like this it something you could wail on and honestly helps open up the possibility of ship boarding & further vanguard integration
extra features could be added to it down the line to work with vanguard (this could perhaps make it an alpha friendly warbarge)
A T2 version of the noctis could outright be a more refined and balanced warbarge.
I’m open to any idea that can’t be exploited.
I love my Noctis! It surprising what you can pull off with one. An underrated ship.
Wow… this blew up more than I though it would… I love it…
Reason I recommend Salvage Probes is because it than removes extra clutter, could also make launchers easier to use for lets say the Noctis or one of the Frigate recommendations. Also Sure there are filters but if not Salvage Probes than I’d say Core Probes, give them multiple use. Combat of course can scan all just not as good. Storyline wise or science wise you could argue that the Salvage probe is honed into scan the “Emergency” beacons or Destruction of the ships power reactor remnants which allows it to scan those, where the Core/Combat cant detect those trace levels.
I recommended 2 hours till auto-abandon because wrecks last for 2 hours as is, so why not make it so the player already gave up their wreck now its free game for an hour. I do not recommend (1 hour after player leaves) because some people go back to the site and clean it up within 1-2 hours. So why punish you for leaving a site you could come back to. Again this also leaves it so you can ambush someone.
I do like the recommendation once it is abandoned it is scannable… this allows ambushes (you abandon it now it can be scanned). So can lay traps. Also I agree it should be abandoned +1 hour it decays.
I agree the Noctis shouldn’t get covert Ops it is a hauler of haulers. That is where I think the Frigate ships should come in where it can use covert ops.
First thing First buddy.
I think the Noctis as a T1 ship for “bulky Salvaging” is great, I think its a nice looking ship so don’t be bashing the uniqueness of its looks. It isn’t no looker like the Buzzard but she’s got her own beauty.
I do agree it would be interesting to see salvage missions and smuggling more. I probably gonna write my suggestion on that now.
A T2 version of the Noctis would be interesting but I am sitting here trying to think how that would work. So might be a littel on response but your general idea is good.
What is a Nano Ninja Salvager btw? I have never heard of one of those.
More EW capabilities would be a start!
