September Release - General Feedback

Uhhhh… there are very very very many missions where you have to warp to 0 on the accel gate to enter the rest of the mission, and unlike incursion beacons, where the beacon is like 5km from the actual accel gate, in most missions that have an entry gate, the beacon is at 0 on the gate.

Since you warp to a random spot within 5km of any bookmarks, beacons, celestials, fleetmates, or combat probed targets in this game, you CAN warp inside an accel gate. I’ve been stuck between the “teeth” of an accel gate for 2 minutes before just due to where the random warp placed me, no fault of my own. And I’m not alone, many people have their own horror stories about getting stuck worse than that.

A 3 minute maximum wait time is a blessing. 95% of the time, when stuck on a station, accel gate, or mission/site structure, just cancelling warp and burning away from the object and then trying to warp again work, but there are times when you’re so stuck that unless you brought a MJD, you are out of luck. This new feature is for those times.

Yeah, because fixing the beacon’s relative position would be like…

Too much work.

Oh, by all means… I’d love for every single one of those “at 0” beacons to be moved to 5km away like they are for incursion sites…

But it’s been years and years now and CCP hasn’t moved many (if any) warp-in locations manually or fixed the issue in any other way(s), so… we’ll take what we can get.

And anyway, there’s plenty of structures/roids/etc. that you can get caught on while not colliding with their visible edges, as mentioned upthread, so this “solution” helps in those cases as well, not just warp-in beacons and accel gates, so… it’s a bit of a catch-all, I’d expect.

No, not bingo, Sylvia…

TRINGO!

What is ironic about this is it points out the cause and defends a hack on the symptom.

Clearly ships should not get stuck where there is no art.

Also this “fix” does nothing for the pilot that is just trying to fly to a different asteroid and is stuck.

It’s hard to consider this even a bandaid.

To me, it feels like a dev got CODEd  :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

It’s time to cough up the kill mail.

This doesn’t fix that, unless you want to leave the area, if you want to just get someplace else non-warp this does nothing.

Meh, I guess making all T1 hulls up to dessi class “warp no matter what you bump against”-able was too much to ask?

There must be a hull size degree on which someone is no longer a noob.

Because eventually, either you grow enough not to care or you just magically stop bumping against stuff, me guess.

“Wait, wat?”
-“A 4 day old Rorqual pilot!”
“This is nonsenz!”
-“Did he stuck?”
“Nah, he’s just bai… OMG no!”

Invisible collision models level-of-detail is a debate in many games. They are low detail, because doing physics calculations and sending the messages about your collision to the server, and then back to any other clients on the same grid, comes with a high cost, which goes up the more accurately the shape matches the visual model. EVE uses simple spheres - many of them - in various diameters, around the parts of larger visual models. (I’m guessing, but mineable asteroids probably have just one collision sphere.)

Or mass radius.

Yes, they are necessary for a more immersive feel. Oh and to justify “regional gates” which don’t give a higher ground to hunters against Null dwellers… (pun and J/K)
The issue is, like many other “fixes” it’s generic but there is always that part: the “to help new player’s experience” thing.

Well, why not define “new” and their respective “hulls” and have proms, so they finally grow?

Nah… let’s just apply to the whole thing, nevermind what Xucca says.

Because it is better to design a simple robust system than flimsy one with tons of exceptions.

For example: a player that did PvP for many years and decided to retire and chill by hauling stuff - is he a “new” player? By any means he cant be considered “experienced” in hauling…

I just played for an hour and a half and didn’t even notice the time to warp bar - I suspect it might not be obvious enough for new folks.

Point!

But it was an example. Not about the fix itself, but as you and others clearly stated, it can happen to anyone, not just noobs. Still, eventually it just stops happening or you simply don’t care.

It was about the tendency to put the “improve new players’ experience” label behind it as if that increases the credibility or IDK what.

Bumping / stuck can happen to everyone at any time. Even Tita…

OMG NOOOoooo…

But yeah, I’ve seen peeps never to shake off the label because they stuck a Titan. They will forever be: NOOOOB!

Being the later a greater reason to evac EVE for good.

A real new player having a bad moment in a stuck situation? IDK the degree of trauma that can generate. I guess it depends on the decade and the individual’s background.

Having to change the mechanics “just” for it? Is anyone’s guess.

I have been playing EVE for almost 10 years and have never been in such a hopeless “stuck” situation. I mean mission warp gates and other things. I’ve never been stucked so badly. When I land on a acc gate that I usually hit keep at distance (1000 mt) and waited for about 15-20 secs before I hit “warp” again. But still, thank you for solving such a critical problem. Masses have ben quiting EVE due to that thing.

That new bar which shows my warp acceleration is also great! I desperately needed a second tool which shows it (besides the acceleration bar on the HUD).
And that blue “Warp To” buttun is awesome.

Ok, I may be well off the point here but - I’m a new player, I’m running a mission. I want to warp out to a safe/station/gate because I’m caught up on a structure and the NPC’s are going to kill me.

Unless you are finished a mission or at the point you are going to die, why would anyone want to leave a mission site?
If you want out because you are going to lose the ship you did missions for a week to get and can’t afford another one yet - 3 minutes is a bloody long time.,.

If what you describe is the intended purpose of this change - It is only useful in very limited and specific situations.

What are you talking about? I heard about this change and planning to resub now.

Ok, so you are a newbro who needs help when caught up in a structure after finishing a mission and needs to warp out - Then I am pleased this change brought you back

Personally, I’m looking at it as a new player who is at risk of losing his only ship because he can’t warp out

I don’t think any of us are really in any doubt what the primary reason for the warp at 3 minutes is really for, it’s just that unsticking from LCOs is a nice bonus.

Totally agree but if CCP is going to make statements on how something is “intended” to work, it would be nice if it was for more than really niche situations
