As far as I know, there is no way “baked into the game” to share user interfaces between characters. The methods I’ve used in the past involve logging into a character, logging out, digging through files, copying them over, and it’s rather messy. For a game that involves as much multiboxing as EVE does, it seems there should be a way for me to get one character “pixel perfect,” down to the position of my chat windows, then share that exact setup with my alts.
Needing it pixel perfect sounds like bot-aspirant behavior…
If copy pasting a few files is too messy for you, I’ve seen some third party programs that can do that for you. Never tried those myself, I find it easier to copy paste some files.
Do you two have to give your negative opinion on everyone’s suggestion?
The objective is to get a method that’s integrated into the game, not to have to rely on third party programs or other workarounds.
I don’t know how you turned ‘helpful advice of pointing towards third party programs that do copy pasting for you’ into a negative opinion.
I do often give a positive opinion on good suggestions. It’s just that your suggestions usually aren’t good.
I agree that it would be nice to be able to import a UI within the game, similar to how we can already import and export overview settings.
This comes across as passive aggresive. But i will give you benefit of doubt. Beg my pard
Carry on
Create a chat channel that all your characters can access… create a MoTD…on the character that has the UI setup you want to share…open the MoTD by clicking configure…with that window open…,…open the UI settings and drag the UI TO THE MoTD window…and accept. Now login your other characters, click the UI link and just like that they will all have the same UI.
You can share overviews that way, but not the entire user interface. It won’t share the chat window setups, sizing, etc.
You asked how to share UI between multiple toons, and that’s what you got. The only reason you would need to have every client exact down to the pixel is to set up a bot or other third party software…
No, I initially suggested the creation of an integrated way to copy a user interface between characters. Thus far, responses have suggested third-party software, workarounds, and sharing overviews, not the user interface.
Or I just prefer the uniformity and efficiency, as do others in my corp. I personally wouldn’t know the first thing about setting up bots. I don’t even approve of using the game’s given mechanics to play the game while AFK. I prefer to be an active player, and an honest one. I simply don’t want to have to fiddle with a dozen different chat windows for each character I have. It would be much easier to adjust one character’s user interface, then translate those changes to my alts.
If you have something else to add, fine. Otherwise, your accusation has been presented and answered.
So, place and re-size each window on each client yourself, as close as you can get them. Yeah, it’s a pain in the ass initially, but it’s a one-time setup. When you get all the windows and the UI just the way you want, lock the windows so they won’t move.
The entire point of this thread was to suggest that the game’s developers integrate to make what you’ve just described easier. This is the part of the forum for players to suggest such things, but I suspect you know that. Please, stop trolling.
i just use a batch file i wrote myself that replaces all settings with the last one changed that are in the same launch-group. … this makes this pretty eay.
if i make a change, i just make sure the client with the change is the one that logs out last … making its the last changed file.
run the script and all is synced.
I actually like the idea, if only to insta-rebuild the UI on one of the countless occasions the whole thing has been messed up by some update. I use a very specific arrangement of windows and boxes that I can play well with, and it’s the same for years so I am pretty used to it. Its absolutely annoying to re-build that by hand.
Even the launcher profiles sometimes don’t help and neither does copying files manually. There are always some client settings missing or some windows not where I had set them to be.
The best thing imho would be to allow a “cloud storage” on your account, so no matter if you reinstall, log in from another computer or an update reset the client, the UI is always re-loaded on login as you have set it up and you can share this complete client UI (and all client settings, hotkeys, checkboxes etc…) via drag&drop.
You would need different versions of the UI for different monitor sizes and resolutions though, but I can see how that would be nice.
I tried these “profiles” and sometimes it messes up details nonetheless. No idea how or where EVE stores the exact locations of the UI windows, but even using profiles (and I have saved them and even backed them up after setting up everything) it reloads some parts of the client settings, but most of the time not all of them.
This isn’t even about manually doing it is hard. The fact that theirs no way to save these server side has been the biggest friction factor to me coming back to the game. Hell a drive failure got me to quit for years because it meant I’d need to redo my ui again.
Not to mention how much easier it would be to help friends and new players out with how bad the default window layout is.
