Skillers in the Abyss

Yes very tedious ind, but even if its mid warps between celestials and even mid warps between 2 mid warps of celestrials aka not between 2 celestials you can still find it, it just takes like 40min around.

wrong name for event… its must be named FSD (■■■■ support to death)

This doesn’t go very well with the recent disconnects. Hope you guys fix it.

Overall, compared to the previous two skilling events this is the best one.

Upsides:

  • There is a real challenge, participating in the event requires entering hostile environment. Even if someone thinks T1 abyssal space is easy, it is still much harder than shooting a lone low-level rat in a belt.
  • It takes moderate but non-zero amount of time to complete daily tasks
  • can be done by relatively fresh pilots
  • motivates to explore part of Eve mechanics and to improve skills and fits

Downsides:

  • Really new people can not participate, perhaps there should be a downgraded version for characters not older than 30 days.
It takes a longer while to train an alpha char to be able to do these missions. it is definitely not possible after the event already started. One would have to focus training in advance.
  • it gets boring after a while anyway, such events are nice but should not last very long.

As always: well-designed fit and char gives rewards, bad setups give salt.

I wouldnt really say theres much in the way of downsides on a game mechanics front. By my second run I had the mechanics sorted and a ship that was successful. My first run was a loss of ship because I didnt understand or know anything about what to expect. I was defeated by small fast orbiting targets while flying a no web beam laser ship. I refitted to dual web and pulse lasers and the entire thing became more than just doable, it became farmable.

The downside is that the content is absolutely reliant upon hardware stability. Hardware in the users house, hardware between the user and the server, and the server hardware itself. Theres so many points where an internet glitch can cause total loss. These abyssal sites would be an excellent addition to a single player game with the upwards scaling difficulty. But dying in a t1 after running them countless times because hardware failures at connection step xyz isnt fun or challenging and offers no capacity to improve - because we as players do not own the thousands of km of network cable and infrastructure

OK so in between doing other stuff I have been running some abyssal…I had 35sp to get but needed to kill 15 trigs…ran around 10 sites and didn’t get anywhere near 15 trigs whats the point of running an event whereby RNG decides whether or not you get the sp? I like events like this but I don’t want to have to spend ALL DAY running them…I have other shizzle to do !!

Skilling Spree is why I stayed in the game, I was brand new when it started and it made a lot of difference.
I think its pretty great honestly, I went from not being able to survive anything to being able to go ratting, escape from baddies and much to my delight use drones and missiles. Surprisingly Skilling Spree taught me more about how Eve works than the tutorial and all the career agent missions.

Abyssal event + random disconnects. not cool.

Second Caracal NI that I lost in the abyss due to game errors.
1st one I get disconnected and opened a ticked, It wasn’t during the ddos attacks so a GM said to me that the problem was on my side, so no refund.
The 2nd one have been due to irresponsible controls, I have gone out of the area without been able to align anywhere. I turned off the mwd but it was in red for more than a minute, until my ship exploded.
But I learnt one thing: never, ever, enter in the abyss again, for any reason. The game stability problems doesn’t mach with this kind of encounters.

It is not really a good time to do the abyss .
Not really CCP’s fault , but DDOS + Abyss is a hell of a combination.

Also I’m sure that in the time I have dedicated to find the correct enemies to get the tiers done I could farm enough isk to buy a large skill injector. As someone said before it may cost you a day to kill 15 driffters or whatever if the RNG is not on your side.

That’s what he meant? … well, thanks for translating for us.

For anyone (this part is not to Ember, ofc) who doesn’t know, though, you don’t need any probes on your ship (regular or combat) to use your d-scanner… when talking about d-scan, please include the d- or else it sounds like you’re talking about probe scanning).

Additionally, if it ain’t a signature in your probe window, you’re gonna need combat probes for it (mobile depots, mobile tractor units, ships, drones) or you can’t scan it down (wrecks, cans).

Yeah. For those of us who have occasional (or frequent, at times) socket disconnect issues with the EVE server already… and/or not the best ISP… or lots of power outages… it’s already a very very dangerous EVE activity.

Add DDOS funs on top of all those other risks and the abyss is downright insane. I stopped doing my tasks Saturday night when the DDOSes started and I’m thinking about not bothering to resume, I’ll just try the new 17th birthday event sites in some battlecruisers (fingers crossed for command ships being allowed)…

But even that might not be the best of ideas if it’s filled with scrams and points like the last 2 event sites have been (Angel Valentine’s Day sites in Feb (I got socket disconnected once, survived in Ikitursas) and Guristas Easter sites in Apr (I got socket disconnected once, survived in Coraxes)). Still safer than the 20 minute timer in the Abyss, though!

To be honest , the first edition of this event with the 100K+ SP , I was intending to try .
I don’t like pve that takes more than 15mn to be done with .
Then the day after , I laugh and I was glad to see the ridiculous reward less than 30K for more than 40mn time spent in abyss .
This event is for the usual abyss pve-player .
I don’t want to waste my time more than 10-15mn in any event ( not being able to cope with my irl ).
It is definitly the event I’ll pass .

I’ve lost my Gila yesterday in abyss, due to lag issues and could not change target, entered in abyss again with a Caracal NI to get these 15 trigs for the sp but no luck, since this even has started i was able to finish skill spree 1 time, 3 days in a row drones were not counted right said that here but who cares?! Great event !!! and you guys wonder why people do ddos attacks?? Got it RNG makes this game fun but not anymore escalations will not be triggered, loot from anomalies is nearly 500.000 isk, i can’t solo do Emerging Conduits with my Praxis without warping or loosing all drones but overall is a great game…until i will lose all my isk and ships and will not have anything to play with!

The lag that caused you to lose your Gila is from the DDOSing… if people are getting pissed off by the abyss during this abyssal SP daily period and then DDOSing the servers… that’s quite the vicious cycle, eh?

Nah, the DDOSing was going on for other reasons, no doubt. Probably banned botters pissed at CCP for making them make new toons.

This event is so ■■■■ I can’t even. I’ve done 15 abyssals now and no single triglavian ship spawned. If you wanted people to start liking abyss you failed. When this ■■■■ is over I am never going to do another abyss again. CCP you idiots.
