Well, you will have a hard time to find a camped wormhole as random T1 explorer, but if it happens then it likely wasn’t meant for you, and your counter is to approach the wormhole and just jump back.
There are so many connections changing all the time and wormholes that nobody camps them for T1 frogs.
You will make so much ISK by hacking relic sites in J-space that you can laugh on occasional T1 explo frig loss. By the way DON’T use Heron. It is the worst explo frig. Pleple will tell you otherwise, but they are wrong, don’t believe them.
You don’t need cloak for exploration. Actually speed and agility is your best defense and once you master it you will laugh on the cloak (in T1 explo frig).
You can be xxxxxxx competitive as an alpha in exploration and they will never catch you. You must put some effort into it though.
This comment is just so inaccurate. I got hit twice on two different days on different wormholes. The people camping them were there specifically to hit new players. My ships were equipped specifically for speed to burn away from the wormhole as fast as possible (look at the killboard posted above). And the gas I’ve been able to mine and relics I’ve recovered from the wormholes has not covered the losses of the ships I lost.
Your ships were not well equipped for speed and burning away from the gate/wormhole is not going to save you with those fits. Learn better tactics and fitting.
Also, although it was two different holes, you were hit by people from the same corp. So likely something they in particular were doing. I have been in countless wormholes and never run into a single camp inside one unless we had fought the residents and they thought we were coming.
You don’t burn straight away or into an arty ship… you burn at an angle. And need enough ehp to survive 1’st hit (before picking up speed) and glancing blows. So damage control and a medium shield extender/ rigs. It wil lalso save you from a random smartbombing battleship.
If it’s not an arty ship and it’s slow you burn away, if it’s not an arty ship and fast (also a frig or has bonuses to scram/web range) best choice is to burn straight back and jump.
Speaking of wormholes… they are (at least intended as such) deadliest part of eve, going in there with half-skilled t1 ship without a cloak is quite suicidal. To move somewhat safely need covert cloak, a scout, some intel- who lives in hole, is it currently active, recent zkill data…

Anyone with an IQ cresting room temperature would just move away from Jita.
