“MOM! Get me more popcorn…this is gonna git good!”
Some more isk and resources and targets for pvp added to the game, and that’s bad?
Is any isk really free?
By that logic, bots should be great the too! BTW, most alpha toons are used to earn ISK passively and never leave a station…
All this does is make it way harder for the new players to get into the game. They can still do it of course but the hill is way steeper.
No as it’s all time related…(excluding real money here)
Godwin’s Law doesn’t apply as often to eve forums as other parts of internet, but there are always some.
Perhaps you are caught up in the fundamental mistake many people dissatisfied with eve have made; you are expecting the game itself to provide you with scripted content rather than experience the content crafted by players using the tools and framework provided by the game?
Uh-huh… Well, it reveals people to be weak when they soak themselves in their whingeing.
Ah. Thanks, that’s helpful. So basically you can play market games for free with a bunch of alpha accounts? Sounds like a lot of logging around.
They care about the fan base. The “predatory player” fan base who enjoy the game for what it is.
You are not part of that fan base and that is fine. No one is forcing you to play and “be the victim”.
o/
I believe it’s what you’re looking for. Aggressives? Easily avoidable as a new player.
Untouchable…have your instawarps and land at 0’s on your normal haunts and things like mining are paininting a target on your head. Go to low-sec or wh? It’s sleepy stuff and lucrative, much more than high security ore.
As for the toxicity, treat it like a NPC being a jerk?
I don’t get it. Do you just don’t like losing or is it because you lose to a player and not the computer? You say you love challenging games, but isn’t part of a challenging game that you can lose and get progress reset?
Can you rephrase that in, english perhaps? You were antagonistic yesterday I believe, what’s your issue? I’m a new player and am jita trading while trading and seeing what is on these forums in the meantime. Get a punching bag/go for a run?
No comment, other than that.
I’ve come to that conclusion myself! It’s really too bad because I love the concept of EVE but I realize I don’t like playing it. It’s a catch-22!
As others have said, it’s an old school MMO that has tried its best to stick to its original core gameplay concepts of PVP everywhere, no rules, no help. I can appreciate that and even though it’s not something I like. I don’t expect EVE to cater to me.
However, I want to like EVE! The complexity of the game is intriguing and I love how almost everything in the game is player-run. But after playing for a few months I’ve reached a point where most stuff I do in-game is boring. The machine is awesome, being a cog is not. At least not for me.
I’ve decided to let my omega status lapse and maybe I’ll log in once and a while to spin my ships. I already have a plan for my stuff before you ask!
Nòoooooooooooooooo!
I wanted to have it all.
sadface
Then don’t be a cog…that transformation is up to you, not Eve.
Yes it is.
That’s great, because I asked OP not you
I think my portrait summarizes my feels about this OP well.
Well you got 2 replies, feel ingratiated, don’t be rude about it.
Much to answer for, not a lot of time to do so…
Yet, this is what I still have to say:
I’ll keep on coming back to EVE, but will probably feel bad for it after sometime and then leave again. I don’t want the game to hold my hand and teach me, and care for my needs and expectations. The best games are those that will give you space and rewards just as much as punish you for your mistakes. My main problem is the player culture and the fact that the game itself mostly encourages that sort of behavior. I want to have time to grow without the hassle of having to be always on the lookout for people trying to ruin my day. Unrealistic as it may seem, for the freedom of other players is most welcome, as is my own, the mere fact that one can’t have it’s time of exploring and wandering without being predated upon just for ISK (oh, come on, is money all this game is about?), then there’s not really much I can say to defend my point of view. You want your cash, good, go get it. Destroying another player’s work just to grab some mediocre amount of money just because you can? THAT’S mean, stupid and cruel. The culture of the game has much in this manner of stupid behavior.
Just to exemplify, I lost my Stratios the other day. It was worth (including the cargo) some 400 m (nice if that sort of cash means crap for you). I did so while exploring some low sec relic site that was defended by pirates. My mistake, for I didn’t check the lore and knowledge base deep enough to know it was as dangerous. Also, I didn’t read the warning when I went to the site, dumb me. Yet, that felt right, for I was being punished for my recklessness. I didn’t feel bad about it at all, even laughed about it. Yet, the next day I was playing with my humble Astero, worth just a fraction of what the Stratios was worth, even with a full cargo hold. But then, while I was exploring, some player came and started attacking me out of nowhere. I was paying attention to my Dscan, was equipped with countermeasures and everything I am pretty much forced to, just because I want so bad to avoid PVP at all costs. Let’s say that he has countermeasures for my counter measures and then some (much better ship, probably worth much more than I ever did own at any single time). The player killed me and exploded my pod, of course.
All I could think was why! Why did that person who had modules in his/her’s ship worth probably more than I ever earned playing the damn game, and could make so much more doing just about anything, just attack me out of nowhere? Why so much dedication to kill another player just for the kill?
Was it really worth it? Probably not. But people live inside this culture that killing another player adds to your status or whatever. Even if that player has a mere fraction of your experience, money and whatnot. Worse than that, the game doesn’t protect anyone from this sort of shirt, thus allowing this sort of troll (I can’t think of any more proper word) to go unpunished.
Get this, if you couldn’t yet grasp my meaning: New players don’t need a nanny, but they need time and space to learn. Allowing veteran TROLLS to do whatever they please makes the game uninviting. Many are the players that’ll think this sort of environment is toxic and undesirable just because they are the main target for such type of people, and will always be at an disadvantage, specially if what brought them here is the sheer sense of wonder and exploration, the PVE factor…
I don’t want to be trolled, I don’t want to be predated, I don’t want to be constantly looking behind my back because there are so many ways for people to catch me unawares. I want to have at least some measure of safety wherever I am, whatever I’m doing, even if it’s mostly just admiring the game. Call me whatever you want or like to call others, I’ll ignore your words as those of just another troll.
Developers don’t have to be nannies, but they must take care to not overexpose new players to old and malicious trolls. That’s just how I think, how I’d like and expect any game to be. And most probably I am the real problem here, for I want to droll over something that’ll just bite me in the face for not being competitive and a complete a**hat.
Whatever. I’ll play it again, even if just to have a few hours of wonder and dumbfounded drooling. And will again feel like it is an environment toxic and predatory. Dumb me.
Kudos for the guy who posted a Babylon 5 meme/GIF/thingy. I would love this game to make me feel welcomed inside its majestic ambiance as much as Babylon 5 made me feel all those years ago.
Enough with my bitching. Have fun y’all.
Nice, spent all the time I had available this night just to answer this post. Meh, not worth it at all.
Welcome to EVE, it’s supposed to be harsh and a solo player who goes out on their own with no idea what they’re doing is going to get curbstomped until their teeth fall out.
I’m assuming this is your loss? While there’s no real way for an Astero to effectively combat against any half decently fit Stratios, there are still several things that I notice that could really be improved. Your fit is extreme greedy, focusing heavily on 3 modules in the midslots that are expressly for scanning and hacking. Your low slots are also pretty poor, without any modules to increase your resistance against damage or to increase your mobility to escape.
You are playing the wrong game then. EVE is supposed to be dangerous and you’re supposed to be constantly looking behind your shoulder. At the very least, you should be fitting a Cloaking Device. Your Astero can fit a Covert Ops Cloaking device which allows it to warp around while cloaked. But your fit doesn’t even include any type of Cloaking Device.
I’m gonna go out on a limb and assume it’s because you’re an Alpha? If so, probably the better option for you is to stick to doing exploration in cheaper and more expendable T1 Exploration ships so that you don’t feel losses too heavily.
These aren’t “malicious trolls” they’re just players playing the game. Stop trying to categorize it as a “me vs them”, it’s a bad way to approach the game and the community. It’ll only make you saltier and bitter about the game, instead of reaching out and asking them on how you can avoid getting killed next time.
If you can’t drop that attitude, you aren’t long for this game, quite frankly.
Got it. Thanks for the advice.
