So much love, yet so much hate. This game inspires the very best and very worst of me

I understand your point but isn’t high-sec meant to be the area where players can experiment with things without worrying about PVP? I mean you can be suicide ganked but that only tends to happen if you’re carrying lots of expensive cargo. If you just want to try out exploration you can do that in high-sec.

Once you leave high-sec you’re definitely entering space where you have to expect to have your ship blown up. Players into PVP choose targets they can win against. They don’t really care if you’re in a crappy T1 frigate with no loot, they’re just looking to blow up a ship.

If nobody could destroy your ship then exploration wouldn’t really be that fun. Half the fun is having 400mil in your cargo and seeing a group pop into local and deploy combat scanners. You’re being hunted and it’s up to you to escape with your cargo! It’s rewarding when you do and mostly bad luck if you can’t.

What I didn’t like was that after getting good at avoiding being blown up I started to wonder why I spent so much time exploring. What was I going to do with my ISK? Everything I did was just to make more ISK but why? It just started to seem pointless.

Once I joined a decent corp I had much more fun doing corp activities but I realized I just liked chatting with my corpmates and didn’t really care for all the logistics and housekeeping and forming fleets just to fly around and never catch a target (or dying early and needing to waste time reshipping). I had more fun on the forums and in my corp discord than anything else.

Exactly. That’s my whole point. That’s why I feel this game is unjust. Hi-sec is where I spend most of my time, and null-sec is where I get the sense of wonder, the “going beyond” feeling, seeing all and taking all. But the “kill everything on sight” idea is what kills it for me. That’s where I think this game could and should be improved. That’s where I think the game is unfair and rewards trolling behavior. Can you really call that anything else but trolling? Well, I can’t.

Did it plenty, and it was fun. Yet that isn’t my point at all.

The problem is that in some(not all) situations, that behavior is not a bad thing. It all depends on perspective.

There are many play styles, as many as there are players. My play style is to explore. I do just that in every single game I play, and love when it is rewarded even if just by showing me something new. Being harassed and bullied when doing so ruins the whole experience.

I don’t want to be forced to prepare my ship for PVP, as @Scoots_Choco implied I should have, even though, to my best knowledge and experience (which clearly aren’t much), that was just what I tried to do with my build, and clearly failed, time and again. I just want to go around, collect a few scraps of loot (best haul I ever got up until now was some 100 m, and I’m pretty fine with that), go back home, get a better ship or fitting, go out again, farther and deeper, rinse and repeat. That’s what I feel like doing, that’s what the game itself inspires me to do, that’s what I would get the most fun from, but unfortunately the game will punish players like me, and other players will have all the fun from blowing me up while ruining my fun. Seriously, is it so hard to grasp? REALLY? I can’t quite accept that this is a PVP centered game. If that was the case, then why make so much content for exploration? Why not just make a hundred million arenas? Come on, be sensible.

Then you’re probably better off finding another game. EVE is a pvp game at its core. Always has, and always will be.

Call me antisocial, but I don’t like that either. I have just a handful of friends I’ll talk to, the rest is me and the game.

Okay, got it, this game hasn’t been developed for my play style, isn’t rewarding nor forgiving to people like me, and most players want it to remain just so. I think that’s a huge waste of so much creative content, so much beauty that would create a fan base even bigger than it already is.

Just a huge, enormous, humongous waste.

Thanks for the input. I got the message.

I mean you do know that null-sec is just a number right? I wouldn’t say null-sec is any more interesting to explore than hi-sec. The difference is only in danger and loot price. And if you want to explore null-sec, you can! But the entire point of null is that players can destroy your ship without punishment. That’s not really trolling, it’s literally the idea behind the game. Would you get mad at the Dark Souls devs because they made a beautiful game you can’t explore because the bosses are too hard and you can’t advance?

…and you lost it again.

You can’t be BOTH McDonalds and a gourmet hamburger joint in the same restaurant. EVE is hard and brutal. If you changed it drastically to attract a bigger fan base then it wouldn’t be Eve. Loss, pain and struggle is a huge part of what gives Eve it’s soul…take that away and you got nothing…

If you need help, ask. People will trip over themselves to help you…

The bosses, no, the players, yes. THAT’S why dark souls so cleverly separated players who want to do PVP from those who don’t just by enabling the hollow mechanic. Simple, intelligent, efficient, right to the point. But that’s another game, another universe, and a much smaller one at that. I don’t care about loosing 200 k souls to a boss, not at all (it just ads to the tension). To another player? Yeap, I care, and that’s why I don’t go out unhollowed if I have that much to loose.

Ps.: loosing all my money isn’t even an issue. Loosing all my assets, that’s another story. But then again, why do I care so much? Frustration most probably. I’ll just let it be. Thanks for your input!

Utterly and completely disagree. Why? For the afore mentioned reasons. Don’t get it? Okay, is just my wishful thinking. It’ll get me nowhere.

So you think McDonalds can make a very high quality burger? Or a tiny gourmet join pump out cheap crap?

Do tell because what you want is not available, anywhere. It’s like saying you want Fortnite to be like ARMA3 or Mario Kart to be like F1-2019. The concepts oppose each other.

Yes it is. Thankfully. That’s the idea. You haven’t got it yet? Why should it be fair? It’s been the MO of this MMO forever. It’s an unforgiving universe out there, fly safe.

Null sec looks just like high sec. If you’re really not in dangerous space for the higher payout as you say, then have you considered that your “sense of wonder” is really just the “thrill of danger”? And if so, then that’s your nervous system telling you that you need to be aware and be prepared for the worst. Any space outside of high sec is supposed to be more dangerous, that’s how games work, providing greater and greater challenges to players to keep them hooked.

EVE is very much viable for the solo player if that is your style, probably more common than we think. I’ve seen people make quite a good living off exploration and combat sites in high sec. Then they use the profits from that “safer” income stream, combined with acquired experience, skills, and resources to take on greater adventures. It does take time and patience to build up in high sec, but perhaps that would be the better path for you.

I think the goal of free accounts was to draw new players in. It may be effective in this, but there are also armies of alt accounts that make some very poor gameplay possible. As for the bots, not sure on it. I used to see bots every day in every system in high sec, but I haven’t seen any in the last week or so. Faction warfare players used to complain bitterly about the bot fleets running sites, which is something I don’t understand very well.

Finally, I’m not sure if I’m a purist or not… But thanks for comparing us to hitler lol

I’ve counted hundreds in Nullsec. If you want to see some bots, check out regions like Period Basis, Omist, Branch, and Detorid. Check the various characters you see flying in ships and you’ll notice there are multiple dozens all less than 3 weeks old already running VNIs and Dominixes in nullsec Anomalies for literal hours each day.

You are so empty when you need game for all of that.
Games are just for fun, and ask yourself why your LIFE is empty?

Time to mute this madness, good day.

NP. Just a shocking way to remind people not to be afraid of things that are different or changing. Find the good in it instead of rising up to fight it out of fear.
