Tactical bookmarks

A new type of bookmark that doesn’t have to be created first. Visible on tactical overlay around structures, npc stations and stargates. Warpable.

Potential:

  • Reduces bookmark folder spam
  • Evens the playing field

What are the cons?

Lets discuss.

It isn’t spam if it has value. And a well-made setup of tactical BMs is very valuable.

Translates to ‘rewards the lazy and unprepared’.

It would remove tactical depth from the game. Especially if everyone has the same spots. The current standard methods of warping in at different ranges from different angles and/or combatscanning hostile ships for a good warpin on them is a far more dynamic method that rewards skill, good planning, quick decisions and creativity.

People could free up space in their bookmarks folder If stations, gates and structures had basic tacticals

I’m tired.

I’m not even going to try explain anymore why this is yet another a bad idea. Just play the game a bit more and you will eventually see all the forms of gameplay that will be deleted by such a change.

If you think its a bad idea you are not doing a good job explaining why. Thanks anyway and sleep tight?

I meant I’m tired of seeing your ideas. Thanks though!

It’s by far more beneficial increasing the folder limit to 5 and the bookmarks per folder to 1.000. See how it works. And that is what people are asking for. Doesn’t even cost any considerable amount of dev time.

Increasing the size of the bookmark folder will not scale well but it can be done as well?

Con:

Dudes will just wait at the “bookmarks” and pop you.

Con: it deletes ‘sniping’ and ‘kiting’ when people can just warp to all the convenient warpable spots in space to land on top of you.

Con: it deletes the tactical advantage of ‘preparation’ in advance of a fight when everyone gets those tactical bookmarks for free.

Con: it deletes bubble camps when everyone just warps to one of many tacticals by default anywhere in space, which they get without any preparation even in the most remote areas of the game they’ve never been in before.

Con: it deletes one of the roles of small ships in big fleets of providing good warp-ins for the fleet, as the FC and all the tackle can just warp anywhere on grid instead.

Con: it deletes the skilled use of combat probes when you can simply warp to any of the convenient bookmarks near the target instead.

Con: it deletes opportunities of selling bookmark packs like this guy did last year.

In fact, if you want all those bookmarks everywhere without effort, why not buy one of their bookmark packs?

think about that, just for a millisecond.
having a “safety” tactical bookmark that EVERYONE ELSE IN THE GAME also has and can warp to isn’t a very safe bookmark now, is it?
A 0.0 bubble camp now just has an additional place to sit a bubble.

some concepts are just so mind blowingly, obviously bad ideas that I’m surprised anyone went beyond dismissing it out of hand and actually wrote a post proposing said dumb, ill conceived concept.
then I remembered: I’m on the EVE-O forums, where moronic ideas get tossed around on the regular.

still not enough space for me to share all my tactical bookmarks between my alts…
up the per folder limit to 10k and I’ll only need one folder to share all my tacs and safes…
so three folders online, 10k bookmarks per folder.
THAT would be useful

These tacticals would not only lose nearly all of their own value but drastically devalue manually made ones.

If the bad guys have a bm close to the one you’re trying to use to reposition you just die.

They can also save you. You can add your own to be extra safe

Modesty is a virtue

Can’t even post correctly. How do expect him to play correctly?

Edit; flagged for being correct.
