Well has he ever been reported for threatening other players? Surely if he was issuing credible threats . . . well, what was he still doing on the server? Are you claiming that CCP failed to remove a credibly threatening player and did not notify the proper authorities over the matter?
What you have really said is that GigX was a hot tempered person whose reaction could easily have been predicted beforehand. And despite issuing “threats”, he continued to be able to play because his “threats” were . . . not threatening. So, what changed?
Maybe someone should call the police and say, “We spent months playing this video game with a guy, pretending to be trustworthy and his friend and then we took almost everything he had been building up for years and we recorded telling him because we knew he would flip out and say not nice things to us because he always does and then we used the recording to get him banned from the game completely. And, officer, our little hearts were beating fast because of those not nice things that he said. ARREST HIM!”
I’d guess the police response would go something along the lines of: “In light of the extenuating circumstances surrounding the not nice words that made your poor little hearts flutter, we have deteemined that Mr. GigX did nothing wrong.”
Oh yeah just tell the police the reason Gigx wants to track someone’s whereabouts so he can go cut off his hands is because of spaceship drama. That will blow over REALLY WELL.
Its a sad thing for it to end like this, but this should be a lesson to us all.
Im a huge proponent of unmitigated free speech, but CCP is a business, not a state.
These kinds of threats are exactly the kind of “toxicity” people talk about which though sometimes considered the new norm in gaming, really arent acceptable, even in EVE.
I myself received reprimand for even suggesting I would laugh at an act of violence against another player. I didnt threaten violence, merely stated I would laugh.
He should have known better, especially as a leader of his organisation.
You can rant this stuff in private, but never in public.
CCP should just ban them all, for good. all of them, on both sides of the equation, including those on the forums, those who constantly declare everyone a victim and those who keep arguing dumb things right out of their victim complex.
ha, i know you from the old forums. you had a different name, iirc, and biomassed, pretending you left. iirc you also used several chars to support your “arguments”, but first i need to find that post i recall. still looking…
You never know what the true intent is with some nerd on the internet. Sure the greaser is probably just using his words to express some emotion in the same way a 12 year old does, but you never know.
Have there ever been threats made anywhere online that DID result in someone getting hurt? Absolutely. Gigx asked his entire alliance of like 4000 players to find this guys personal info, then empty or not… threatened him. Out of 4000 followers, I am willing to bet that someone was actually trying to find his personal information, and I’m willing to bet there’s someone sick enough to justify real life harm.
You can’t gamble or play around with this. Grow up.
Get a grip, man. You’re not going to hurt my feelings. But you might get yourself a ban if someone less composed takes offense or wants to disturb YOUR emotional state.
Apply your own mantra. “It’s only a game.”
The last guy to call me that didn’t hurt my feelings, either, not even when he punched me in the face. lol
LOL! He thinks we’re all vulnerable to being baited into freaking out on the internet.
Sorry, but for us grown ups, that could never happen. You see, for us, the concerns of real life make all the collective happenings of the internet seem laughably trivial.
You’ve failed to grasp the point I was making and the term greaser nor 12 year old were directed towards you. If you identify as a 12 year old greaser then I’m sorry… heh.
My point still stands. If I were to threaten you right now, CCP should take it seriously.
I wouldn’t go quite as far as he did to say that everything online is trivial by default and I would also point out that not every person is an “adult”, certainly not about every topic.
But personally, if you or anyone threatened me in a video game forum or in a video game, especially after I had just been a complete douche to them, like, full on The Judge level of douchebaggery, I would not be suprised and would probably laugh it off . . . probably while browsing cat pictures.
Hey, me too! Looks like we have something in common. However, real life governments seem to take some happenings of the internet to be serious, and in turn CCP must do so as well. I wanna play CCP’s game as well as avoid encounters with RL law enforcement, so I too operate within these boundaries, silly as they may be.
This kind of better judgement and willingness to compromise are skills obtained on the way to adulthood.
