Some how I’m not worried about her getting voted in.
This probably would have gone away all by itself.
I’d never even heard of her before this thread.

CSM has been a mockery for years, it should have been eliminated a long time ago.
Like, seriously, CCP can’t do the same thing with well crafted player surveys?
No, to be honest, because a lot of players have a lot of wrong ideas about what changes would actually be healthy, or what would totally break a given ship or such. You kind of do want players who have long experience with a given play style to give sound, reasoned, advice, right up to the technical level. Surveys are great for large, overarching content and theme ideas, bad for deciding if trimming a midslot to a Gila is enough of a nerf, or if maybe the retribution could do with an extra lowslot, or if moon compositions should be changed to a new ore type, or just changing the numbers up to get X effect kinda deal.
Look at his and his corp’s killboards and you’ll see why he’s not doing it himself.
Democratic voting, like what we have for CSM, will always favor charismatic windbags. If you expect the CSM to be subject matter experts then we ought to be using some sort of pre-screening process.
such as…?
I don’t think this needs to change. I hope nobody here thinks this needs to change either.
Look, Utari Onzo is saying that we cannot trust the players to give CCP useful feedback because they are a bunch of rabble. He seems to think that the anointed, purple-robed CSM is going to be able to tell CCP the holy truth.
But . . . if the playerbase can’t be trusted to provide specific useful feedback, then how can they be trusted to elect the CSM itself?
If CCP has a question about Faction Warfare, why don’t they just pull up their database of Faction Warfare guys and reach out to them (they have our emails, after all)? CCP should not be hamstrung with rando elected players when they could choose for themselves who has the expertise they need to tap.
I didn’t say the current system is perfect, but surveys alone aren’t going to give you the more technical feedback you need. But believe it or not, most CSM candidates, even the goon ones, are very learned in the technical parts of the game for their given area. It’s why the nullblocks tend to front them in the first place to ensure their interests are represented. Not that CCP has historically always listened to their feedback, regardless of coalition.
End of the day the CSM is a big bag of compromise solutions for getting a close knit group of players CCP can reasonably control with an NDA, and that they can bounce ideas off of for feedback if they feel like it. It’s made democratic so there’s a veneer of it seeming to represent the playerbase as a whole, but democracies have ALWAYS been and ALWAYS will be subject to voting blocks pulling their weight.
Also, way to go completely missing my point too, which had nothing to do with the democratic system, and everything to do with surveys suck especially for getting feedback for ideas that really aught to not be broadly known because they’re way too early in development. Imagine trying to be the Devs sifting through a survey giving feedback about the jump fatigue changes, with 5% of it being reasonable feedback about what likely effects it’d have and how long the timers could be, and 95% of it being nullbear line members screaming about their suitcases getting nerfed while threatning to unsub. Amazing data right there to use.
Recipes. I demand to know what the candidates are “bringing to the table” this year!
"One, if you’re going to run in-character, remember that in the character of New Eden many capsuleers - especially those from sovereign null-holding PvP alliances - are murder bunnies. We enjoy shooting things just for the fun of shooting things. PVE and industry is just how we go about paying for our psychopathy.
Two, if you’re going to play a pacifist and go up against that, remember that they will use all the tools available to a murder-hungry psychopath with billions of credits and a personal armada, which include bribery, extortion, bounty hunting, and personal hunting parties.
Three, if you’re going to run in the above two arenas while holding to the white flag of pacifism and being a simple mortal, at least try to remember that tracker agents are a thing."
This is the part that got me to kick in for the bounty. This guy to me, threw himself on his sword for the betterment of the game. He knew the risk and took it anyway. I have no problem with him personally, with the lore or RP. (the rocks for space drive is a bit much but meh) But coming from an age when there were no electronics at all, your word in a RP game was your word in front of people that you were face to face with. So I probably take someone at their word while doing RP a bit more seriously than others.
I have no problem with him or his platform and would enjoy more RP. I do not think he is worthy of the free ride that being a CSM is unfortunately.
That being said, I think he has done more to bring attn to the CSM and the game than anyone else this year. I thought this bounty was the best player content I’ve seen in along time! Any PR is good PR. I’m no fan of the CSM but I do agree they serve some purpose. Their a good PR tool for the game. They do have their own agenda. (we all do) And for a long time, they gave far more info in the forums than the Dev’s. (Tip’s hat to Brisc and Steve) But I want people who can at contribute something to get that free ride.
I would even consider giving the bounty to the charity if he withdraws. More PR? Sorry for being so blunt.
Anyway, there is no hate, no witch-hunt, just good “player” driven content for a change. We do care who gets elected, just don’t ask me why…
Bounty for charity? Tis a noble idea, sir.
<3
Maybe donate it to Magic Schoolbus if he withdraws?
I was thinking the…
Even better idea!
If komi drops out of CSM, i would be more than happy to allow my part of the bounty to go towards plex for good.
Confirming that this thread has resurrected my desire to vote for the CSM.
I’ll vote for you just cause you (and amazing responses like this thread here) make me laugh, @Komi_Valentine.
But I’ve glanced at your campaign thread and it looked alright.
The possibility of losing a CSM candidate/member due to in-game assassination is just incredibly tasty icing on the cake.
My thanks to anyone involved in this space opera.
I think it would be very generous to use the money for good. What keeps you from doing it? It can’t be just me, right? ô.O
