Takes me a whopping 30 seconds to figure out if an Orca is AFK or not. If I keep bumping it and they don’t do anything, try to warp away, or say anything in local, they are AFK…
How do you bump 19 at a time. You must be a great bowler.
I am indeed a great bowler…
Grew up on the game.
I had a whole post about Orcas a while back and we discussed this in length. Basically the Anti-AFK sentiment is not that they are necessarily AFK, but that they could be. Its like Schrodinger’s Orca.
Again, there are other ways than assigning drones each time, like a smaller drone ore hold that drones drop ore into so that you have to switch hangers all the time.
If they went to manual control, I would want mining drones to be like fighters where you load them into slots that can be commanded by the Function Keys. It would be a real PITA is I had to manually send each of 5 drones to each of 5 asteroids every cycle with the right click->mine.
If it quacks like a bot.
What? Quack? To make a lot of noise?
I still think you bot, but that’s just me.
You only said (wrote) quack once (before your reply) . So quack could not have been the word “you keep using”.
This time I really leaving.
Why leave? I thought you were an AFK Orca miner, you have all the time in the world to stay!
Gankers are relevant because the other ships are significantly lower hp. When destroyers are blowing up anything smaller than an orca it’s natural progression that people would jump into something much harder to gank. With an orca you’d need a group with battlecruisers to make it worth while and most gankers are solo or really small groups. Their throw away ships simply don’t have the firepower to put one down before concord shows up. That’s the reason why it’s relevant. Because it can survive the kinds of ganks going on in highsec against miners. The way things are, are honestly fine. They’re slower and less efficient by such a wide margin compared to the hulk. The hulk will make significantly more isk per hour than an orca even if it has to dock. however, because of the low class type of person that suicide ganks in highsec, people would prefer to make less isk per hour than to suffer a gank. There is nothing wrong with that and let’s face it. With those mining permit gags and ■■■■■■■■ these kinds of people do, it was inevitable. You can’t make isk if you lose more than you gain at a time. The orca solves this problem. Want easier unarmed targets? Stop the hunt and take it to low sec, null sec, and wh space where it belongs. Only honorable pvp in high sec are war decs.
If I bring my Mach or Vagabond to where you are mining in an Orca, you will not mine a single piece of ore. Guaranteed. And no ganking required…
Then they’d move. You gonna follow them around from system to system?
I don’t even know where to start with that statement…
Take away it’s ability to be run afk and I’ll be happy.
But please don’t nerf my creepy fit orca! (I would name it that but would probably draw to much curiosity)
They won’t move if they are AFK. They will be 500km out of the belt by the time they come to check on it. That’s how I know which Orca pilots are AFK…
Based
So if you bump one in a fleet and they do come back or comment in local, do you then leave them be or do you keep bumping them just in case?
If they speak up in local, or warp out, yes, I actually do leave them alone.
But the actual AFK’ers get punted into the next dimension…
I don’t discriminate, if they wake up while I’m bumping them, I keep going until they warp away. Gotta hustle for drone presents.
I agree with the tank and the basic ship staying as it is, just restrict the drones as I suggested and the AFK issue is solved. It is more painful to mine of course but this just fits in with the rest of the drone boats, which have no longer got auto aggression against NPC’s.
I use a Skiff and an Orca together, I use the mining drones. I like the tank of both these ships.
