(Your ZKillboard is interesting - a few kills and losses 2008-11, then suddenly active again the last six weeks. Returned to the game after a decade, or a newbie who just bought an old character? Either way, does not quite suggest you actually have a great deal of relevant expertise on which to base your polemics vs Orca pilots.)

Your experience in the game, or lack of it, might be terribly relevant to whether you are well placed to have a view on the Orca, how it is used (as opposed to the myths about how it is used), and whether or not it should be changed. As I say, your zKIllboard suggests strongly that you are a tad short on said experienceā¦
For example, I have never offered an opinion on nullsec because I am not qualified so to do, and am incredibly cautious about offering an opinion on lowsec or wormholes because my experience there is limited. It is always a good idea to debate from a position of knowledge, and not over extend. Toodle pip.
The Orca has a 100% Drone Ore mining yield role bonus. There is also a 50% drone ore mining yield bonus for Command Ship lvl 5. Drone Mining Specialization can offer an additional 10% (i have lvl 4 myself).
With T2 mining drones on the orca (no rigs), Iām showing a mining yield of 200.43 m3 per drone per cycle. With 5 drones that about 1000 m3, which is what I thought.
A T2 Mac (no rigs) with Mining Laser Upgrades and mining crystals is 1593m3 per strip mining laser (almost 3200 m3), with T2 mining drones and additional 66m3 x5 (330 m3).
So in my view, I see the orca at about 1000 m3, compared to a T2 mining barge at 3500 m3. I donāt even compare them, a barge is considerable better.
The orca only provides a Mining Foreman with a small amount of ISK, less then even a T1 mining barge without crystals at (1055 x2 m3).
No, no implants, no rigs. Itās just to point out the obvious. The orca is not a OP solo mining ship. That said, I remember from personal experience skilling up for the Orca, if thatās the best you have to mine with, you use it. LOL
Back in 2008 when i set out to be a mining foreman, before the boosts and buff to mining, I found more value in hauling using my orca. LOL I just didnāt make anything mining, and boosting did not exist.
Oh yesā¦that is why CCP apply a test before one can post in the forums
If you donāt have the confidence to get informed about the different aspects of that game and choose to limit yourself to a few areas that is not my problem. And by no means indicative that I or anyone else canāt be informed about that particular area you decided to isolate yourself.
And for ā ā ā ā ā ā ā sake! Iām not the one proposing that changes, Iām not the one threatening you precious Orca. I fly an Orca myself and will need to adapt to whatever changes CCP make as much as anyone else. Can you get over it yet?
You have to remember the progression, risk and investment.
porp > orca > rorq > rorq with industrial core
ore compression on the orca would be nice, but you would have to provide ore, gas and moon on rorq to make the progression correct.
taking the drones away isnāt smart really, they are there to protect the fleet and provide some isk to the mining foreman. they are not OP at the moment, and actually add to the risk for a orca pilot as it take 5 seconds more to pull them in before warp.
I personally do not use mining drones on the orca at all, because i prefer a fast warp time, and the drone bandwidth is high on mining drones compared to combat.
What you are missing is the time frameā¦
If a proc mines @162 seconds unboostedā¦
An Orca can mine @120 secondsā¦when it is on top of the rocksā¦it will mine faster than a proc or even a skiff (@142 seconds).
I think itās in the volume it mines, which is a lot less (1000m3 roughly) compared to (2000 m3 roughly). If you compare T2 with crystals, 2714m3 (1357m3 x 2. no rigs or implants). The T1 mining barge can be considerably more.
I playing my orca and skiff as we speak, I can assure you the mining barge mines more. LOL
I personally do not even using the orca mining drones, takes to long to pull them in if a fleet comes into the system.
Afk mining isnāt a real thing, unless a bot is being used. At worst, itās semi afk mining.
In highsec, the rocks are too small to set your drones and go afk. You have to reset drones every few minutes.
In lowsec and null, if youāre semi afk youāre likely to die to other players. Besides that, rats will take out your drones if youāre not careful.
All the people whining about orcas are fail gankers that just want easier targets. They are too short sighted to take seriously.
Disrupting mining as much as the whiners want damages the entire economy, and drives players away.
Hundreds of responses on this thread from people that donāt mine, so donāt know what theyāre talking about.
Powercreep is a made up term to cripple game companies from within. However nerfing peopleās time and efforts, which is ultimately what gets nerfed here, invalidates people who think powercreep is a thing. It is human nature to be better. The term powercreep is meant to hurt game companies by convincing them to design their games against human nature. At the end of the day my complaints are valid because people have complained, A LOT, over the years and a lot of those players stopped complaining because they either quit the game or realized that CCP is stuck on defending a player base, that quite frankly is a minority, that just quite isnāt worth it. Look at how you people get hurt. The people who give the biggest salt are the ones who farm it. Itās ridiculous because despite being such a simple game, it could even be more popular than just as āthat game where people steal and cheat you?ā
Na, instead you people are stuck on some memetic ā ā ā ā ā ā ā ā and so is the company as it shows, hard. You people treat it like a religion in all the wrong ways and it costs both you and ccp. Because when thereās less targets for you, thatās less content, isnāt it?
So while youāre nerfing your ācontentāsā content, theyāre depriving you of content.
