The Orca

An Orca can not mine more then a Proc, correctly fitted. You have options for mining laser upgrades, mining lasers that make a substantial difference.

Yea except what it points to doesn’t exist. Its formation was one of those correlation does not equal causation observations.

Before I let my sub run out, I mined with 1 orca, 3 procurers.
Everything was fit for tank, to survive any potential gank. A proc that doesn’t use mining crystals is extremely cheap, but can be out-mined by an orca. Not including boosts.

That doesn’t even apply to the concept of power creep.

Are you using T1 or T2 mining drones on the orca?

Here is what I see. Please let me know if my math is wrong. I’m also happy to provide screen shots.

Orca: T2 mining drones, 200.43 m3 per drone, with a 60 sec cycle. 200.43 x 5 / 60 = 16.7 m3 per sec

Proc: T1 mining laser, no rigs, no mining laser upgrades, no crystal: 1055 per laser, 162 sec per cycle. 2110 / 162 = 13.02 m3 per sec. Plus an addition 230 m3 per 60 secs for 5 T1 drones, 3.8 m3 per sec. Total proc 16.10 m3 per sec (strip & drone)

the orca is showing to be slightly better then the T1 barebones Proc…

T2 mining drones, with drone rigs. Still high defense, so no npc or small (2-3) gankers pose a problem.
Procs have a damage control 2, and mining laser upgrade 2, with strip miner 1. The rest is shield tank.
Cheap fit, hard to kill. A little less ore per sec, but untold peace of mind.
When I get off work I’ll post some screenshots, if you want
(Your own maths shows an orca mining better than a proc)

But it is … since getting some alphas into catalysts is basically free and easy. So loosing your barge is almost garanteed while having to learn to fly an Orca effectly takes time and an Omega account. So if I pay money I want to enjoy at least a bit of advantage against those cheep throwaway-gankers.
Back to topic: reduce the mining bonus on drones by 10% and everybody should be happy. Thread can be closed.

Made my day. A company doesn’t want PAYING customers? Ok, so in your world CCP could live out of Alpha-Throwaway-WonnaBe-Gankers alone? Well … EVE is dying for sure with people as you around

LOL, okay maybe it does. LOL
still sucks to me, compared to a T2 barge

I like t1 cheap ships. Less investment, for similar outcome.

Ok, in other words … you complain, that a carrier does way more dps and has way more ehp then a T1 cruiser?! Really?!
I have to train huge amounts of sp into just getting into an orca. And these sp should have NO value over a mining barge that I can get into way faster and mking afterwards my money by selling injectors? Sorry, but that is …

it’s just the point, the Mining Foreman should have the capability to earn isk, without taking two separate career paths. (please consider Mining Foreman and Miner, are actually separate career and skill paths)

Given that the Orca can mine about equal to a T1 bare Proc, it’s not that OP. They have to be able to earn something to replace that 1.3 bill ship. LOL

You’ll find forum personas like to spit on time and money investment. Most of them don’t even play. To them, it doesn’t matter what you put into it, as far as time/sp. They want anything they can’t solo kill in a t2 frig to be nerfed to the ground.

I agree. I’m very much against anymore mining nerfs. The ships are where they need to be imo. The market can’t survive much more ■■■■-nerfs against the mining community.
Already, in the last 3 months we’ve fallen from around 32k logged in at any given time to (if we’re lucky) 20-25k

Before skill injectors, it really wasn’t that fast to skill for an orca. To be honest, I think in 2008 it took me over a year. lol Not sure how long it takes know, but I would be interested in to know.

Nerfs tend to push players away. I would like to just focus on more content, new skills for everyone … my view.

Fully skilled or just skilled enough?
A couple weeks to just fly it. About 3-4 months otherwise, not including side skills like shields etc

For new character it takes quite similar amount of SP to be able to fly orca or mining barge. And since literally zero skills cross train into other mining ships it might be not even worth it to train for barge and waste SP

you would have to consider t2 drones too, mining foreman buffs, to make an effective orca pilot. has to be more then 3-4 months. lol

Need certain mining skills to get mining drone specialization. Some skills are the same
