When I first responded to the anti Orca crowd here, the pro Orca posters were being mocked and called names. Further, the anti orca crowd developed a false narrative and ran around with pseudo reasoning and treating as fact things unknowable. Especially your claim to know that more Orcas are afk mining than supporting fleets. You cannot know this. Talk about childishness. Claiming omniscience isn’t exactly the mantle of adulthood.

Then I came along and debunked your narratives, pointed out your unknowable facts; laughed at your reasoning and inconsistences. I’ve never called anyone a disparaging name. I treated serious discussion seriously, and unserious discussion they way it deserved.

Yes you all should be embarrassed. Go ahead claim I’m a bully and childish that too is a last resort and admission of intellectual defeat. After owning the grid with false statements, false reasoning and mocking all who disagree, I came along and displaced you with good writing, good reasoning, charm and being indominable.

Just like Ghostbusters, you chose your destructor.

This is the song that would help us with our qualms after playing Eve Online!

You couldn’t make this up.

I heard CCP is gong to do a mining rebalance soon. I don’t know what that means, but if I were an Orca pilot, that would make me nervous.

We’re not playing the same game indeed.

The mining fleets I see these days commonly consist of a bunch of Procurers and Porpoises supported by Jackdaws, T2 logi frigates and a command destroyer or 2. Sometimes there are even more combat ships than mining ships on grid.

Now that’s what I call a well organised mining fleet.

Tough to hit too, it took a lot of bomber drops before they started organising themselves into something worthy of a mining fleet.

Sure, this isn’t in the safety of high sec space where CONCORD shows up to kill the evil gankers, but in the middle of a war zone, but players have managed to make it really really tough to kill those mining fleets. All it takes is some organisation and a willingness to work together.

Those mining fleets still aren’t immune from getting attacked or killed, but they sure make it really tough for any agressors to do so.

What do you think about the fact that a multiboxer Orca in Highsec is able to AFK all day, making easy isk without effort, which they use to purchase bombers and attack you?

Is that in response to my post?

I’m the bomber, looking at those mining fleets, cloaked.

Well, what do you think about the fact that there are thirty Orcas mining away in Highsec, where you can’t use your bombers at all?

I don’t get what you’re trying to say.

  1. You can use bombers in high sec. We kill them with torpedos, not with bombs. You can do so in high sec too.
  2. You have more efficient options to kill mining ships in high sec. You’re one of the experts in that area, you should know a catalyst works well.
  3. The point I’m making is that to defend a mining fleet in null people put combat ships next to the mining ships. People in high sec could do the same if they want to be more safe from agressors, regardless of whether the agressors are using bombers or catalysts.

Well, that just means you are a little slow. Ok, in Highsec there is this thing called CONCORD. So yes, you technically can use bombers to kill an Orca, but CONCORD will destroy them. So that makes it prohibitive to use bombers.

Ah, why thank you. As an expert, let me testify that the cost of ganking an Orca is significantly more than the value of ‘loot’ the Orca will drop. Ergo, there’s little incentive for anyone to actually kill a Highsec Orca, which is why basically nobody does it. This means that fleets of dozens of Orcas are free to AFK mine 16 hours a day, while the ‘player’ is at work or outside smoking a cigarette.

So here’s my question: Is that good gameplay?

Should CCP make more of an effort to either force miners out of Highsec, or make it less safe (or less profitable) for them to mine in Highsec?

A repeat of my earlier posts in this thread:

No that’s not good gameplay. The Orca is currently not a jack-of-all-trades mining fleet supporter, it’s a master at most of the aspects and that’s not good gameplay. Ships in EVE are specialised for roles, but shouldn’t take over roles of other specialised ships.

Survivability, ore hold, fleet support in addition to a mining yield that’s significant (at Barge level) even though the huge ore hold and survivability allows for AFK gameplay is a bad combination. The Orca is designed as a mining fleet support ship and in my opinion it should be a great mining support ship, but right now the Orca seems to be very popular as a solo mining ship. And that’s not OK.

I would nerf the yield of the Orca, which would encourage players to mine in barges and exhumers again, supported by a single Procurer or Orca.

Excellent.

We are in agreement, and have reached a community consensus.
