So what does it matter how many you can carry at once if you are docking up and unloading them anyway?
You do have a Fleet Hangar and a Cargo hold. These are extremely large and can accomodate many packed ships in addition to your fitted ones.
The DPS on an Orca is anemic anyway, so any “nerf” would be removing it entirely. Orcas dont defend themselves by shooting. They defend themselves by getting the crap out of Dodge or tanking until something happens to save them.
Im not really sure in what way an Orca can outmine a barge on its own? Unless you are counting having to empty the ore hold? Sorry, Im not following your point here.
Anyway, my only point was I want Orcas to have more flexibility. I dont see what would be wrong in having the option to turn down the mining to increase the Maint. Bay, or something like that. A single clone clone bay would be cool, or a fitting service not requiring a Mobile Depot or something like that. Or a CQ lol j/k
Thats where my idea comes in, they add compression to the Orca and you can still have a small hold that fills rather quickly but by manually compressing ore you maintain a fleet size depository.
Because I’m a solo player. I like to roam around, find a decent system and then dig in for a few days. The Orca provides the capability to roam between systems and take that multi million isk “swiss army knife” When I’m out playing in another system it takes me a few trips to get setup. With an Orca I can load it up like a backpack and then head out.
You dock the Orca, unload it and then your good to go.
This is a huge myth. It’s a ship that is capable of multitasking. Not only that is any ship really “for your fleet” ? I used to fly a Claymore (waaaaaay back in the day) and it was an amazing PVE runner. As its a “command ship” does that mean it should be specificaly “for your fleet” ? or am I allowed to use it for other reasons ? Can I park a Naglfar in mission and start shooting or are they specifically “for your fleet” with the upcoming addtion of Capital PVE I certainly believe that CCP do not feel that a ship should be consigned to one single task/use.
Something that CCP does need to consider and something that has been highlighted in this thread. I can fly an Orca but will not be buying one anytime soon because of the impending nerf. Constantly aspiring to something only for it to be changed is detrimental to the game.
I think youll find I already covered, and agreed with your points in following replies.
The person I was replying to seemed to be under the impression, from what I read, that they would be switching ships in space, other than maybe scannign ships.
Though provided they dont nerf its cargo capacity and maint bay, I cant see it changing how I fly mine (as a Swiss Army mini station)
I agree, if we can keep it as is and remove the ability to be an AFK miner in the way suggested by several people here using the cargo bay then there is no need to change it. I rather like the Orca as it is. I just do not like the ability to AFK mine with it to that degree.
I’m fine with the way the Orca is I never mine in mine just use it for boosting my fleet . I think it should be set up so anything coming out of fleet hanger should be manually moved by the user . I hope they don’t nerf it I couldn’t wait to get one it was the first ship that I trained after training all the support skills and leadership skills .
I just dred the future updates that might nerf it .
Is that the issue that CCP have identified as to need a “rebalance” or is it going to be a complete redesign based on tenuous issues raised by the loud minority ?
AFK changes - switch ore drop to cargo hold - I kinda agree. Its also a small change that adresses the issue directly rather than a “balance pass” which is bound to go wrong. However, should this then be rolled out to all mining ships ?
EHP changes - OMG I cant gank it !! - LOL just dumb
Mining capabity - I’m mixed here as it is a huge industrial mining platform. I would want a huge benefit to its other abilities to offset the loss to mining. Otherwise this still remains an AFK platform that someone sits in providing a boost then just goes down the pub for the rest of the mining op.
Industrial command ship - I get the point of this being a ship to provide boosts. However, why not add an ORE Command ship ? Have a Command ship that is there to provide a boost with some assault capability. For me, that sits well within the ethos of the game and can add value to the ship pool.
Comand Logistics - The earlier suggestion that it provides a boost and reps just feels like a command logistics ship. We already have both style ships so I kinda feel that this is a writeoff as a suggestion.
It kinda comes down to “what is an Orca” ? is it an all rounder that does really well, but not great at or is it a mini mobile industrial platform. Should the Orca be completely rewritten to be something different ? Should it have an Industrial Core ? where is switches from a Command style to a Deep space ore monster ? Which follows on to where does the Rorqual fit in this ‘mining balance pass’ equation ?
The narrative here by the people who use the word “we” and claim omniscience have made some outrageous claims that they cannot know. I understand that CCP has all the data. I been a contrary voice for about a month now pointing out that vey same thing. So I have made it a cause to present information contrary to their narrative. I’m indifferent as to whether you agree or not.
This not difficult, their rhetoric, facts and reasoning are poor at best. It’s just time consuming, but I’m attriting them like a kiting battleship.
Has anything official been released about Orca changes? If not this is much ado about nothing. For myself I would like to see the Orca be able to mine solo better. Let the hate rain down…
OK more tales from the average Orca pilot, paying member, paying lots of money and producing lots of material along with his buddies…
After the +1 Billion ISK four day weekend we follow up with 1/2 billion ISK ice extravaganza Tuesday. Went back and picked up another 234 units of blue ice but did not document.
Still have not seen (my Mother would shoot me for using that word) any graphic evidence provided by the “we” people. Plenty…“oh well it’s linked above” messages - WITHOUT THE LINK.
You all have completely gone BSC because something “can” be done.
No one has demonstrated that your obsession over what “can” be done is actually happening. The “we” crowd claims omniscience by stating without attribution that most Orcas AFK mine. That vast herds of AFK Orcas are parked around Eve sucking the life blood out of the game.
What about all you great gankers? Shouldn’t you be able to cull the herd if 75% of all Orcas are AFK?
That’s just it. The zKill server should be melting down from the thousands of ganked Orcas that were sitting idle. Problem…they, thousands of idle Orca, don’t exist.
If this is in highsec, then a Bowhead would be better, if CCP nerf/remove the mining capability of the Orca, combined with cheap hauling contracts to move ore/loot to wherever needed.
It will carry more ships, including a few barges/exhumers are spares and replacements for the Orca.
However CCP have said they have a few tricks up their sleeve*, so hopefully whatever change they make, the Orca will still be versatile and a key choice for players.
* I fear that CCP are Emperors without clothes at the moment, so “tricks up their sleeves” with no sleeves is still no tricks.
