So, this is interesting…
Have you guys heard of the Robbers Cave experiment? Researches randomly assigned boyscouts at a summer camp into two groups. The groups spent the first week doing activities together, which resulted in in-group formation (i.e. group cohesion, unit pride)… Then they pitted the two groups against each other in competitive activities. The two groups became extremely antagonistic towards each other, and things eventually devolved into fist fights. Experimenters asked the kids what they thought of their own group, and the other group, and found that both sets of kids positively characterized their own group, while negatively characterizing the other. Friction was eventually reduced between the two groups by having them work together towards common goals (i.e. fix a water tank or get a truck unstuck).

Of course, organizations (IRL and in-game) will intentionally try to frame in-groups as being superior in various ways (i.e. morally, culturally, inteligencily?), while framing outgroups as being inferior. But, it is effective propaganda because people are predisposed to believing it.
So, I guess what I’m trying to say with this is, obviously Mina Zealot and Fifi are some next level turds, and that the behavior of my salient in-group is beyond reproach. Also, something about the competitive nature of Eve influencing how players can perceive things and each other -especially when there is room for interpretation, such as in text communications that fail to convey tone. And, it’s very interesting to me to see people defend/dismiss/ignore the bad behavior of people they are sympathetic to, while painting the behavior of others as being totally out of line.
And no, I’m not trying to say that I, or my forum peeps, are clearly right, while you and your peeps are clearly wrong. I know that my emotions can sometimes get the better of me, and that I will sometimes stop using tact. And I know that Gix can be extremely antagonistic, and that others can become various degrees of aggressive or demeaning. So, do not interpret this as an extremely pretentious way of me trying to say that you’re wrong. I genuinely find this stuff interesting, and wanted to share. And if there is a lesson to be learned from this, it would probably be something along the lines of, “as Eve players, we’re all on the same team, and we all want Eve to survive and thrive. Thus, we should all probably be a little nicer to each other.” Or something like that. I’m not the Buddha of the Eve Forums. So, fook you, and your fedo.
