Tranquility Connectivity Issues Megathread

Still having troubles from Ontario Canada.

Can’t log in normally. I have to click the connect button. It does work though.
Character selection is a little slow.
No chat channels.
Still getting disconnects tho a lot less.

Still, it’s a little better than it was a couple days ago but it’s only barely playable.

No, I’m not there.

I also wasn’t there when the Hindenburg caught fire, but I know that piloting an airship filled with flammable gas is a bad idea (capitalize the word “bad” in your head - I’m not doing all caps there).

And as a matter of fact, I was (prior to my disability) a high-end IT consultant who worked for companies in six countries outside the US and a number of them here - for more than 25 years.

I know a bit about networks security.

More to the point, I know people who are still working there.

The largest DDoS attack in history (against Github a year or so ago) was fully mitigated within 12 hours.

The longest DDoS attack in history lasted less time than this one has already.

I was (probably by your standards) “incredibly rich” but I’ve always had a moral objection to accumulating wealth so I gave it away as I earned it. I rarely kept more than a few months expense money. My peak billing rate was $450 an hour and I never lacked for work.

What they should be doing is getting a top tier DDoS mitigation company involved in this and stop trying to cut corners. If this keeps up much longer, they’re going to lose their player base.

As to the suggestions I made, I fail to see what about them is stupid.

It’s easy to criticize when you don’t do anything but say, “Oh yeah, you’re an idiot” but there’s nothing in what I suggested that couldn’t be easily implemented and easily managed.

One flag in the database that says “Turn on DDoS player impact mitigation” and a new variable in two or three places that reads that flag and adjusts extant game mechanics

To be honest, it’s not even an original idea. I implemented something akin to it at a bank once for a kluge of a online/offline cutover system back before efficiencies in processing and data retrieval made better solutions possible.

Well, I still cannot log in. Even using the connect button gives me an error.

You’re still really boring but now you’re taking it to the next level by just repeating yourself in your posts every few minutes.

Also, learn what “incredibly rich” means cos $450 per hour it isn’t.

Lastly, I haven’t said “oh yeah, you’re an idiot” but, you know, you are. A boring one.

$450 an hour, based on an 8 hour day, 5 days a week, 44 weeks a year, is earning just under $800k a year before tax.

That puts him not only in the 1%, but probably in the 0.1%. Pretty damned rich, frankly.

Good reply. I have observed the Fairy Tale character guy for a few days now, and I came to the realization that he/she/it/non binary is only here for the trolling. Not really worth answering.

You did however do it in a most satisfactory way. Nice job. I wonder what other clever retaliation the troll with come up with. Probably a slightly more sophisticated answer than “your stupid”.

I will give them that much, but underneath the varnish its still only " your stupid".

Nice play.

Yes Fairy Tale, my English, and spelling are not very good. My grammar is atrocious.

Its still better than “your stupid”.

South Carolina, USA. Logged in, Local chat screwy. Random Disconnects. Spinning ships in station to see what happens.

Ping the server with the diagnostics tool on the launcher. Use any of the tests except tracer route. keep using the tool during the entire log in process. lemme know.

No it doesn’t. Lul.

Your English is better than that of many native speakers. Don’t put yourself down.

First of all, I clearly qualified what the definition of “incredibly rich” might be for you. I haven’t any context to go by.

$450 an hour, $900,000 a year before over time, is quite wealthy by most people’s standards and certainly by the standards of the folks I play with in this game (who seem to curl up and die inside when they lose a Venture to rats).

Second, if I’m so boring, why are you following me?

Third, you said, “Also, if you knew even half as much as you pretend to you would know how stupid those suggestions of yours are.” Clearly you’re questioning my intelligence. Perhaps I used a different phrase to express how you did so, but it was, after all, a generalization on my part. My mistake was assuming you were intelligent enough to understand that.

Still having connectivity issues. No chat/denied joining chat. Characters still being randomly logged out. Very frustrating to say the least. Since I pay to have my alts, I will not renew until fixed. they can stay parked as alphas.

Same here. still connectivity issues and still frustrating.

Oddly, I agree. 900k a year isn’t in the top percentile at all. It’s all a matter of perspective and I generally lived on about 50k a year (the rest was given away).

But, to many people it has the appearance of “incredible wealth” and I was unsure what FT_O’s definition of that was so I gave a qualified “maybe” to that status.

Income at that level isn’t money. It’s keeping score. It’s a statement of your value. Once the statement was made, I had no real use for the money.

I’m not. Stop fkn linking me and I won’t have to get the fkn notifications of your bollocks. Honestly, you would think that with all your vast experience you would have cottoned on by now that I am being informed - by you - of your continued spew of nonsense.

Also, “I used to earn xxxxx before my disability, so shower me with praise and sympathy please online strangers so I can feel my life is of value” is pretty pathetic.

Actually, yes it does. In the 1% by a LONG shot. And well inside the 0.1%

Based on 2018/2019 data, globally, you barely need to earn USD$40k a year, or have USD$800k in assets, in order to be part of the 1%. In the US, he’d still easily qualify, where earnings of just over USD$400k a year are required to be in the 1%.

The 0.1%? USD$660k needed.

Doubt my data? I guess you know more than groups like Forbes.

It’s OK, we’ll forgive you for being wrong.

Again.

Ah. So you’re a “last word” addict unable to simply walk away without some pithy, snarky insult.

Good for you for admitting that.

And my name isn’t published here. I never gave anything to anyone who knew it was from me. Sometimes that took a lot of work to arrange, but money like that screws up friendships so I never let on that I had it.

I value people far more than money.

You, by the way, raised the issue of money in exactly the context I commented on - that it’s a value of knowledge, experience, and ability in a field. I simply corrected your asssumption that I hadn’t been valued in mine.

I was using international data, but I agree that in the US when I was still working (and working as a contract consultant - I eventually got married and settled down in a proper “employee” type job (although my boss though I was insane to take the pay cut I took to accept that job)) I was in the top 1% of US earners.

Issue: Unable to Connect

Very small issue for me - whichever of my 2 Omegas logs in first loses connection, the second has no issues. Only happens when neither alt is currently logged on.

Not major, slightly annoying, presuming it’s another symptom
