Tranquility Connectivity Issues Megathread

Unable to log in consistently for a week+ from the main front end. SOMETIMES I can log in after it fails to the second screen, and I choose authenticate. When it can’t log in, it’s failed to port 26000. Chat won’t ever work, and says it fails at port 5222.

If this continues, my patience after over 10 years may wear too thin.

west coast has been peachy… perhaps because their proxy goes through japan and china?

Oh I can connect, but I just DC after just enough time to read the first tutorial window. I assume this is far from standard operations around here right? I’m willing to keep coming back to check for a few days because I understand what a pain it is to deal with a large scale DDOS, just want to check that it’s normally smooth running.

To all the people complaining about the lack of communication. Please take a step back and put yourself in their shoes. We don’t know all the information, it is NOT OK for them to share all the information. Knee jerk responses could have made this situation a lot worse and for all we know this communication could potentially lead to more attacks.
If the attacks are ongoing and this serious the authorities have to get involved. I don’t believe CCP is equipped to combat a DDOS of this size. Most giant companies have to put serious money, time and effort to MITIGATE the damage, and that is not enough in some instances.

A lot of MMOs have resorted to login queues to help with this ■■■■■■■■. Maybe that’s something they could try.

interesting. Even though it says chat doesn’t work, I typed into alliance chat a “.” and all of a sudden local populated, as did alliance chat. one minute later it failed again.

No clue were all out here naked frolicking in the sun playing eve online.

you’ll get it ccp, you’ve been through worse. So have those of us that have been here long enough…for any new players trust me on this, its worth the wait.

Glad to hear it. Trying eve for the first time tonight with this had me a bit worried. I’ve seen some companies where this is situation normal. Not going to name names, but it happens.

Coming on 11 years playing. always been worth it. Not many times it’s been out this long though. Hanging in there… for now.

Status from me:

Location: Republic of Ireland, Co. Cork
Game Connectivity: 50% of the time starting the Client via the Launcher Resulting in “Cannot Connect to Server”, clicking connect within the client mostly works instantly.
Chat Connecticity: about 90% of the time no initial connection to Chatserver, often a connection retry needs to be attempted multiple times for success.
Disconnects: Not tested, due to poor results on initial connections.
Tests done: 03/02/2020 11AM GMT, 03/02/2020 7PM GMT, 04/02/2020 1:30AM GMT

Yeah validation check had no corrupt files and 0 extra files. I can reinstall but judging by the thousands that cant login I doubt that will help lol.

This is far and away a different animal than most previous technical glitches. Exceedingly reliable game, if a bit quirky at times.

Currently logged in on two toons. The characters in station appear in local (that is good) but there is a character in station and local (who is green and the CEO of my corp) that does not appear in corp ? So improved but still not right.

Not sure if this has come up for anyone else, but after ignoring the warning that the client cannot connect to the chat server, and typing in a message to alliance anyway, it now seems to be connected and working. Comparing who’s in local with corp members shows we’re synced. Can’t be that easy…

[UPDATE] after doing that in a chat channel, I now can also log in normally from the front end. Maybe a strange old cached authentication issue?

Experienced lag while doing a mission and swarmed ( I guess) so I had to force close client then reopen it. Luckily my battleship was saved thanks to CCP team who decided to put my ship safely. Cheers all.

As previously mentioned, I’m SC UK and logging in with no issues. Chat seems to be working fine as far as I can tell and I’m having no issues with lag etc. I’m no expert on these things so have no idea why I’m doing fine compared to others (maybe geographical location close to the London servers) but figured it was worth sharing incase CCP are using our feedback. I also logged off 7 hours ago and just reconnected.

As far as I know about the Scale of this DDoS it must be using advanced tactics to have avoided trace and shutdown of its original location for so long. they probably are using some kind of infect with troj to turn multiple or hundreds, maybe thousands of low sec computers as “ping bots” through a multiple vpn Tor or similiar connection. this is a targeted attack as far as I can read into it. they really want to hurt certain paid subscription gaming companies by disrupting connections between the USER BASE and said companies servers… either this is a result of rivals to the company using unscrupulous means to harm the company itself, or more likely, it is an ex subscriber to the company game who is using proxy bot troj to create mass Ping Nuke from multiple vulnerable systems for some personal vendetta…

and its working to a degree, it is harming mainly half its USA based Clients… which is full of those whom readily blame a company for failing to respond to what is likely, a new form of DDoS attack that was very cleverly yet strategically simply thrown together… possible program features is they are using a random VPN tor connection to send a command to one “main” slave system that is remotely hacked but then sends given the command repeats to multiple proxy addresses…
which trigger a hive of infected hosts to bombard SERVERS with overloads of requests that go no where.

dont ask me how I know about this kind of thing, I am simply posting my theory… that WE are the target here, by making the game unplayable for us, they cost CCP profits by driving off consumers of its product through helpless frustration
