Trig invasions are crushing hisec PvE

It has more a bad taste of T20.

CCP definitely isnā€™t leaving this invasion thing up to players. It is actually quite shocking to me how much CCP is meddling in the invasion to get the results they want.

And, once AGAIN the risk-averse ā€œPvP-ersā€ duck the issue.

You gotta love the irony that CCP has spent almost twenty years trying to create an environment where no one trusts anyone, everyone feels theyā€™re on their own (even if theyā€™re mighty GOONS), then suddenly they introduce a feature that infests their glorious map like termites in a pine house basing its success on whether we, the great EVE players, will pull together as a group, getting over our paranoia and our differences, and SAVE THE DAY.

I was relating this at a dinner last night to a table full of hearty laughter, btwā€¦the punchline was the ā€œsmartā€ people who are fighting WITH the Trigs, just to show what tough guys they are. Keyboard courage! Woo hoo!!

Even if nobody fought for the Trigs, CCP would pull the strings so they got systems to flip. Player agency is an illusion.

This should be fixed now - it was supposed to get reset back to Fortress at downtime (Fortress states are supposed to be final, getting re-invaded was a bug). Anyone in a position to check? On my work PC right now and it wonā€™t run EVE.

Yes, it was fixed.

It certainly does seem that way.

That is an issue and if anyone has any sense they wouldnā€™t spend more than a sub, as what you invested in, can easily be turned to dust by CCP (although this can be an issue in other MMOs as well).

Yeah, it sucks all the effort you put in over the years to see CCP trying to find ways to get rid of those assets for you.

Absolutely true.

Kind of defeats the object of a sandbox, but Itā€™s not a sandbox, been saying that for a long time, CCP keep interfering too much for it to be one.

I joined 12 years ago, because the CCP boast was everything that happens in game is driven by player activity. That is no longer true, too much meddling with game mechanics, player numbers dwindle because many players feel the game is no longer player driven. So wake up CCP, before its too late. ā€¦ This whole Trig thing, not a bad idea, but why in hisec. If I want a shitload of trouble I would go lo-sec. If you get in the way of my game play, I will move on ā€¦ as will hundreds of others ā€¦ wake up !!

As Iā€™ve said in other posts, Eve Online is no longer player driven, it is CCP driven ā€¦ so CCP, good luck with that approach, not sure it is going to win you many fans ā€¦ ā€¦

Donā€™t really care about hisec PVE, but I have a huge gripe with this Trig Invasion.

Let me relate my experience here, and I will caveat this with the following: I was always told that EVE is a huge sandbox where players just go in and can control their own destiny. That was part of the lure of EVE for me: do whatever the heck I want, and risk having whatever the heck someone else wants done to me. And Iā€™ve certainly learned things the hard way in a few instances.

I was also always told that EVE is generally a PVP game; you agree to PVP the second you undock, no matter where you are. Now itā€™s ā€œYou agree to PVE and die in immediately in a glorious blaze to mass roving gangs of overpowered NPCs the second you undock.ā€ Far less appealing.

I started this game in 08 (hence the name) but generally shied away from PVP. I ended up, somehow, in a null sec alliance and fought in the null sec wars sometime around 2009? 2010? Somewhere around there, I canā€™t honestly remember. CVA I thinkā€¦ it was sort of fun but a lot of the time was spent trying to make isk, and a lot of the time was spent gate camping for nothing and roving around null sec in empty systems. Fun timesā€¦

When WHs became a thing, I joined a WH corp; that was fun but I logged off for a while and when I came back, the system had been taken over and the corp was pretty much gone. Oh wellā€¦ podded out and away I went.

Over the years I tried my hand at mining (hated it), manufacturing (hated it) and exploration in a bid to make isk. I was bored though and the one thing that kept sticking in my head: go full banana into PVP. Well, I am a casual gamer and PVP costs a lot of isk; what is a guy supposed to do?

In comes FW to the rescue. Now, I know FW is broken; I get that. But for someone like me who can only play casually (I am a lawyer now with a wife and kids so not a great deal of spare time) it was perfect: I can learn to PVP, lose low value ships in the process and generally have fun. And thatā€™s exactly what happened. I built up a small fortune running missions and doing exploration (by small, I mean incredibly insignificant compared to most, but a couple of bill was a LOT for me) and then joined with the only faction I figured would be appropriate: Caldari. After all, my character was Caldari (from 2008) and the missions I ran had me up against Gallente and Minmatarr so my standings were abysmal with those two. I could join Amarr, sure, but my skills were all Caldari. Keeping in mind I had several long hiatuses from the game, simply due to RL, and I couldnā€™t just train into another race and be comfortable; baby steps. Another caveat: I absolutely loved this game and never considered leaving due to in-game mechanics. My hiatuses were strictly due to a lack of time.

Anyways, in a nutshell, I did exactly what I figured I should do: experience the true game, being interactions with other players.

Well, as my killboard will tell you, Iā€™m a terrible PVPer, but I honestly didnā€™t (donā€™t) care. I was in it for the experience, to learn and get better. To that end, I typically did not shy away from a fight, even if grossly outmatched. Itā€™s the only way to learn, really. As time went on, I even became the proud owner a 10 killmark Kestrel. Not a feat for many, I know, but itā€™s something I never thought I would be able to ever do; get 10 kills. I decided to retire that Kestrel, though I shouldā€™ve stripped the parts and renamed it, as you will see.

As time went on, I wondered why CalMil was always losing the war. Looking back, I couldnā€™t find any recent pushes by CalMil, although in all fairness I didnā€™t look that hard. Either way, CalMil did not control a lot of systems and we were consistently in Tier 1. I wanted to do something about that, and began to fly in fleets with other CalMils. Someone suggested I join a corp, but with my schedule I felt that was a non-starter.

In steps United Caldari Navy. They were goal-oriented and their time commitment was minimal: at least once per month login and that was pretty much it. They were focused on at least fighting the war with a concerted effort. Perfect! I signed up and away I went.

We were crushing it, really. I was having a blast, we were getting into good fights, and we were actually winning! Dark Acripher posted in the fiction portal a very informative (for me, as you will see) post referencing attempts to take 5 systems in a single night; I was part of one of those pushes and though we never were able to do it, it was incredible fun.

Well, RL came knocking, around June I believe, and I took a two month hiatus. It was right around the time we were pushing for Nenamaila (donā€™t care to look up to spell it correctly). And, as Iā€™m sure everyone knows, Ichoriya was the base system for CalMil, so that was my last dock. I think you can see where this is going.

A few weeks ago, I log back in, get in the first Kestrel in my hangar (which happened to be my shiny 10 KM Kestrel), undocked and was promptly destroyed, then podded. It was only 2 monthsā€¦ wtf did I miss??

Turns out that a Trig Invasion occurred in CalMilā€™s home system Ichoriya, and the Trigs won. Also turns out that CalMil fought hard but as it turns out the Trigs were for some reason naturally suited to cutting through Cal ships like a hot knife through butter. CalMil standings dropped against Trigs and they lost the fight, leaving many people completely screwed.

Then I see UCN has broken into two, with most players leaving, and Militia Chat is pretty much empty. GalMil is back on the rise, taking systems one at a time that we fought hard for.

So, for the first time since joining this game in 2008, I am actually considering cancelling my subscription due to in-game mechanics and not RL. Some may think Iā€™m butthurt for losing all my ships but that is not the case. Fortunately for me I was not around to fight the trigs, so my standing was near neutral. i went to a system, fired a missile at an Edencom ship, then went back to Ichoriya and moved my ships out with impunity, though one capitalising fellow was chasing me somewhat but had bigger fish to fry and got bored of chasing my frigs.

No, this goes far beyond material stuff. Upon deep reflection, there are a couple of things weighing in on my mind:

  1. Nobody asked for this. Nobody said ā€œI want PVE forced on me.ā€ Literally, nobody. The lure of this game is that you make your own destiny. If you want to blow up NPCs, go for it. If you want to manufacture, power to you. If you want to shoot rocks all day, set your phasers to stun. If you want to grief, grief away. If you want to PVP, several more options are available. Not so anymore. I attempted to carve my path, finally found a niche I enjoyed, and hit a brick wall. What now?

  2. All the hard work we put in was undone, not necessarily by GalMil, although props to them for taking advantage of a situation, but in large part due to CCP. Isnā€™t it interesting that the Trigs were unleashed on CalMilā€™s home system at a time when the Trigs were OP against Caldari? Did this occur to the other factionsā€™ home systems? And if so, were the Trigs OP against those respective faction ships? And was it at a time when that faction was actually turning the tides and winning?

  3. This, of course, brings us to another point. I get why CCP is being tightlipped about what comes next, but honestly, the above demonstrates how much of an effect that can have on all aspects of the game. If Iā€™m going to put in effort, I want to know that thereā€™s a payoff, either against Trigs or anywhere else. We put in the effort in FW and Trigs ruined it. We put in the effort against Trigs and suffered brutally because of it. My motivation to put in any time anywhere here is now gone.

And so, while I may or may not disagree that the Trig Invasion is crushing Hisec PVE, what really pisses me off is that the Trig Invasion is crushing everything but null sec, and ruining content that we were pushed towards and encouraged to take part in. If itā€™s a sandbox, leave us alone.

And on another note, wtf did CCP do to ECM??? How tf does that nerf make any sense? You can jam any ship but that ship can target you? That defies logic, both internal to the game and generally. Thatā€™s like having a neut be effective against any ship except the one you are targeting. Iā€™m almost starting to buy into the conspiracy that CCM has it out for Caldari, which is so strange because they created Caldari. Seriously, just lower the statsā€¦ so stupid.

Anyways, thanks for reading if you did and if not, TL;DR version doesnā€™t exist. The above is my experience and I hope someone at CCP sees how this Trig invasion has pretty much ruined my motivation to do anything really.

I donā€™t think CCP really cares about your subscription bud, Again like I mentioned they only really care about null players who seem to stay the longest.

Its killing Faction Warfare as well. Staging systems, chokepoints, and whole markets are gone. What used to be great systems to find fights are now gone. Even when a system is trig victory the fw plexs are still there. But since highsec is now litered with edencom/trig its impossible to choose sides. CCP just needs to cancel FW :unamused:

Thatā€™s perfectly fine. CCP is going to do what they are going to do, and my one little subscription is but a drop in the bucket. I am well aware of that.

That was not the intention of my post. I am not posting here to middle finger CCP on my way out; Iā€™m not here to say ā€œLook at me! Iā€™m quitting,ā€ or even threaten that. Itā€™s more one of those ā€œIā€™m not mad; Iā€™m just disappointedā€ type things. Itā€™s disappointing that someone could spend months or years working toward a goal only to have all that they worked for snuffed out for PVE content of all things. Iā€™m all for the collapse of player empires brought about by other players, but thisā€¦ this is just unfathomable and nonsensical. Itā€™s contradictory and a complete about-face of the entire philosophy of the game, that we are in a giant PVP sandbox. No, we are all puppets and CCP is the puppetmaster, despite what we were led to believe. The content is no longer driven by players, and that to me represents the death of EVE as we knew it.

Fine

Corporal punishment is quite correct that it is hard not see Trigs as deliberate attempt by CCP to screw over Caldari militia.

Proportionally Cal FW space has been hit the most with multiple low-sec entry systems (Oshaima) and traffic bottlenecks (Hikkoken) targeted.

Add in badly designed NPCs, obviously unplaytested content and Gal FW space only having faced a single system of such potential (Renarelle) and whole thing overseen by CCP Fozzie who has had gallente bias for over a decade and you can see where this is going.

On personal level, at least for me this also led me to stop cooperating with UNC and other entities who decided to go ā€œneutralā€ and gave up opposing trigs because it was ā€œpveā€ and ā€œnot funā€, culminating with Ghostbirds being thrown under the bus in Passari by said entities.

We held it but CCP of course then threw us Manjonakko to screw up the warzone even more because as long as Fozzie is in charge, Calmil must always get the short end of the stick.

Edencom is just as bad with cyno jamming low sec systems other than Niagra Ganking I really dont see the point as both options suck TBH.

hey, how does this edencom work?

Itā€™s about time they shift the Invasions into Deadspace and call it a day I think.

Pilots can still access them just via deadspace jump gates.
