Dumbass.
This is probably going to get flagged, but I want you to know that you’re actually the dick in this thread. Mortlake was playing around and Reileen was trying to help you.
IIRC the original condom as we know it today, was part of a sheep; and we’re back to that…
On that note, what do you call a Welshman with a sheep under each arm?
A pimp.
@Mortlake is gonna either laugh, or kill me for stereotyping.
For the past 11 1/2 yrs I’ve never had any issues with a Computer Virus threat from Eve until the same thing happen on my computer about 9 hrs ago. I started verifying the downloaded files in the Launcher’s Shared Cache when Windows Security detected a Trojan threat and blocked it:
Threat Blocked Severe

When the verification of downloaded files in the Launcher was almost complete, Windows Security updated with another threat warning:
Threat Quarantined Severe

Anyway, I immediately posted that info in the ‘Known Issues’ thread and about 2 hrs later CCP responded:
Then later another player posted saying he had the same problem, with the same file, on windows 10.
Huh, here I was expecting some sort of funky “Stay covered, Stay Safe!” ad.
Instead it’s a guy who doesn’t realize that if he already has viruses on his PC or has a malware site opened recently in his browser, it can infect new downloads. Or that anti-virus software is capable of false positives.
Oh well, live and learn I guess!
This is the most likely scenario, google reveals a fair few links that suggest it’s windows security that’s at fault; it has problems with exe files that aren’t in the database and powershell scripts for a start.
Malwarebytes doesn’t seem to pick it up, neither do most of the other reputable antivirus platforms.
Every day my computer is monitored for Malware and all Virus Definitions are updated. My browser has the same Eve related sites open that I use everyday which is also monitored.
Whenever the Launcher downloads a new patch, I always verify them in the Shared Cache which is where this threat was detected.
Some kind of physical defect? Strange religious beliefs? Or just abnormal?
This doesn’t eliminate false positives, Microsoft themselves admit that it happens and have a procedure for processing them.
No antivirus is infallible.
True, but you don’t know if what Windows Security just recently detected is false or not.
Even if it is false, at least the software is working and doing it’s job. Always better to be safe than sorry. The main thing is that CCP knows about it and is looking into it.
Yup I had this last week sometime. Same thing, Eve patched and then next Defender scan throws a hissy over some file in the cache with (supposedly) that trojan.
I figured since the forums were not on fire it was just an oddity and deleted the file in question.
False positive. Report to your AV provider and cary on.
ps. ignore forum trolls and don’t get draged more into this ■■■■
and its porn you monkey
“Stop Eating Avocado!”
Windows Security app on my Computer has already removed it and the Launcher works just fine.
No offense but I’ll just wait and see what CCP has to say. I submitted a Support Ticket 8 hrs ago and have already received a reply saying they are investigating the issue.
Hmm…you seem more than a bit defensive on that. Raises a warning flag. Hope you don’t mind Interpol taking a look at your computer real quick…
btw - just as an aside as I’m sure it would have no bearing on your situation at all - Did you know that a computer will tell it’s entire browsing history even if the user “deletes” it? Interesting, huh?
Hi all
I would just like to thank everyone for filing reports when these situations occur. Rest assured; we investigate them with the highest priority. If you ever have a security concern related to EVE, then always file a support ticket so we can investigate.
Unfortunately, we see false positives for EVE occasionally and this appears to be one of those times. These usually coincide with a patch release, with the new files triggering the heuristics engine for some anti-virus vendors. Once these vendors have updated their definitions, the issue stops happening. Looking at past support tickets, we seem to have a number filed within the same day or two, and then nothing after. This is the expected pattern with false detections.
If anyone encounters a security issue in the future, please let us know so we can investigate it.
