Vanguard - Terrible WIP

Consdiering they keep saying it’s prealpha, I very much doubt it.

My argument is they say its pre-alpha as an excuse and that the game likely wont change much from this point on

that’s factually inaccurate.

So you tell the VG roadmap is bogus and they will keep delaying things ad infinituum?

The prediction is correct until the game has changed a lot so in this case you are factually wrong

Define “a lot.”

As I said before we’re getting a new map in june. that’s 50% more environment … and I would expect the launch title will have many more environments, especially since they’re aiming for some degree of dynamic generation.

We’ve got mining equipment incoming next month… which Eli said is handheld. It’s no thumper game mode, but it’s a start.

Vehicles aren’t currently planned, but the community wants them, so they’ll absolutely be something added in for a future expansion… assuming the game does well.

The sort of negativity you’re displaying is the reason why companies don’t show their product until it’s ready to release. Too many silly people who can’t extrapolate potential out of what is visible.

They’re going to add mining to this garbage pile, people are going to start coming to the forum to whine and complain about not being able to safely PvE in peace, and it’s going to be great. We’re going to get yet another vector for griefing carebears into salty rage-quits, and I’m all for it.

This cracks me up

I havent played Vanguard, i am waiting for geforce now to work again. But some people said they didnt enjoy the crafting so lets see how mining pans out. But it seem like people in charge at CCP know more about marketing than they know about games so lets see.

Well it’s not like you’re defining what you’re complaining about, you’re just moaning for the sake of it.

You said it’s not going to change a lot, my point was just adding a single map changes the environment, by 50% (technically 100% from what we currently have.) Which by any metric, could be considered “a lot.”

If you have constructive criticism, the devs will welcome it, but doom and gloom naysaying isn’t helpful.

I wouldn’t say it’s a terrible WIP. The main issues are getting caught on geometry, biomass being tough to find with the numerous empty containers, and the UI being clunky.

They’ll fix the geometry issues.

Hopefully full biomass will glow or otherwise be easier to discern- having the containers disappear would help, or there needs to be something. It’s already dangerous to give away your position and then spend time looking for and looting the boxes. A HUD popup or display upon getting a kill would help tremendously when you have to reposition for any reason. I understand there needs to be risk but as filling the clone bank is essential for success there needs to be more to it. We’re in a high-tech universe and it wouldn’t be unreasonable for our HUD to map mark kills we’ve registered.

The UI isn’t terrible but having to stop and click through a menu sucks just as much in this game as it does in Rust. Having a few “favorites” crafting hotkeys (ammo, shields, extraction beacons, necessary contract utilities) would go a long way to keep attention on what’s around you instead of getting through the menu. As I understand it, there’s only a few resources - so having the option to display the amount of possessed resources on the main HUD without opening up a menu would be intuitive and welcome.

I thought the gameplay was pretty fun and you can tell players will craft up strategies that are more effective. These are EvE players we’re dealing with so expect the best and the worst.

My final criticism would be that I’m unsure who exactly they’re marketing this game to. Is it meant to be added value to Omega subscribers, or are they going to make this a stand-alone product? I like shooting games and EvE, but I’m not sure the two-in-one package is going to be appealing enough to the wider audiences, especially in the great sea of otherwise free FPS games available.

Good luck CCP.

This is my first time playing extraction/shooter on a PC and the game itself has the DUST514 look but a new vibe. I enjoyed my playtime and I am sure I need to spend money to upgrade my computer to be able to compete with others at the same level.

I don’t know if I qualify to put in my 2 cents but I have played during the testing of the game in December, January, and February thus far.

  • The first thing I always face is the terrain of the game and I feel like that should be addressed first as not being able to move on a flat surface well and getting stuck on one small rock gets me mopped up real quick.

  • Next I would say is the coloring of the game as everything blends in well (50 shades of Grey) and finding the biomass on the ground was a real chore at times.

  • I know Click to Talk was recently added but every time I wanted to use it or be able to even hear my random team the entire audio cuts out everything including the game sound and it would not fix itself even after restarting my audio. Unless I am soloing I can not hear the game with a team. However it did not stop me from dropping a few nice 30-piece’s like an absolute unit with a team and successful extraction all while not being able to see well and no audio.

Personally I would like the problems I faced listed above get fixed sooner rather than later.

Also the NPC’s were a lot of fun to go up against and I got mopped up by them left and right. I am glad they were not to easy. Turrets give away position so much in the game and are probably most annoying thing to deal with.

This will attract me a shitstorm 100% (apologies to everyone offended) but the Vanguard feedback is on EVE Discord
(take a look around before posting to choose the best categor though)

If you haven’t already link your New Eden persona with the Discord version here

Its because the industry as a whole uses the term alpha incorrectly in most cases, CCP is actually using it mostly correctly, but people are used to the likes of EA’s “alpha” where they actually mean “This game is finished we just want some unpaid QA done and some free marketing hype”

CCP advertises Vanguard on reddit and sells 14 day passes for it. So its not an alpha

Nobody is forced to buy it…

And it is more for EVE Online than EVE Vanguard since playtest runs only for 4 days and the Warclone Pack adds 14 day omega time. It’s slightly pricier ( € 0,04 per day) than regular 1 month of omega

If CCP doesn’t want the containers to go away, they could just have a colored light on the containers that turns off when it’s empty. They already do this for some other containers, so I’d suggest all containers should have this behavior so people don’t have to interact with them to know if it’s empty or not.

ex: Red light for locked, yellow light for an intermediate state (such as a hackable container or a container you have to spend resources to open,) green light for unlocked, blue light for mission drop box, light blue for mission items, no light for empty, ect.

I believe the game will be f2p on launch. You need Omega now due to the early state the game is in.

They require you to register a phone # to post there. I’m not interested.
