I guess sarcasm goes the same way as your attempt at a joke.
Oh the sarcasm and joke were understood, just not by you apparently, the point is if youâre playing on an unsupported platform, you shouldnât really be getting upset that your access was blocked, you already knew this was very much a possibility by refusing to use a supported platform
Sucks for you i guess but you still have the option of playing on a supported platform or in the future via a browser if you wish
Linux doesnât have to be âsupportedâ, putting in a bit of care to not to break what the community has already fixed for you is not that much to ask.
Iâll vote with my subs I guess.
17 years of Eve, your joke is old and is about as funny now as it was years ago. CCP havenât âofficiallyâ supported Linux or Mac for many years but they also havenât until recently broken what little support there is for one OS to âtryâ and appease a minority of the player base using another OS that had the exact same support as the one they broke.
I have to wonder whether CCP actually looked at how many players use Mac, Wine and Steam.
Side note; Mac support not only broke linux and steam it is also creating issues for windows users. I guess the real joke here is that CCP has once again done what they do best - Screwed up.
Well that would require them to test the game, on an unsupported platform they donât actually intend the game to be run on, what youâre actually asking for is for them to support the game for you, you canât really expect CCP to spend time, money and resources testing a game on a system its not designed to run on in the first place, like i get that youâve been lucky and avoided being unable to play entirely, but thats not a guarantee
What you mean is, none of the older changes have been to things that werenât massive changes to the way the game runs, which isnât a guarantee anymore
Steam as a whole wasnât broken, it actually runs the same client if you install it via steam, there isnât anything special about it
My being able to play Eve on Linux is not me being lucky, itâs CCP being lucky. Itâs money they wouldnât otherwise have gotten, money they will now no longer get. I like Eve and wouldâve happily carried on playing, but Iâve got a full enough life as it is and in some ways this is doing me a favor. CCP on the other hand is sacrificing existing income, all in the name of attracting potential future customers on another platform.
Itâs shortsighted, itâs a lot harder and costs a lot more to attract new customers than it is to retain existing ones - business 101 stuff. An existing dude on Linux with 3 paid accounts will require 3 new people on Mac to bite into the game and keep playing, just to break even.
The attitude of âlol Linux wasnât supported anywayâ is amusing, our money smells the same as anybody elseâs.
Anyways it doesnât matter, the EVE Linux community has already fixed what CCP has broke. I have every right to be dissapointed. You cant tell me when and where I should be dissapointed.
Mac wasnt supported either until recently, and the dissapointment lies in also the fact Linux should be supported over Mac has it has a higher user base in this game then Mac and that CCP devs have actually done work in getting this to work for us just to break it for us again. Its like giving us hope then crushing our dreams. Which turns out to be the CCP way.
But Mac is easier to support without Wine, id assume, since both OSâs are moving away from wineâŚ
guys iâm done! I just smashed my mouse ($100) cause it takes 5-10 seconds to switch between my 6 omega accounts. Iâm guessing this is a priority to fix but Iâm going to be asking for a credit for the day Iâm losing from paying $100 omega when I canât play more than 1 omega account. it lags like â â â â when I switch!
UPDATE:
the status message appear to stop after a client disconnect. reconnecting Eve has a chance not having status display above HUD. rebooting Eve again fixes issue, ( just happened again after a disconnect )
on the picture it is seen i am pressing orbit gate repeatedly, but no status in the orange area appears
and this is after restart how it is supposed to be
Tried verifying shared cache on both Lutris/Wine and Steam/Proton. Results unchanged, client still failing to load completely and just sitting there.
Something in the logs about a DLL failing to load so Iâm guessing that ball is in Wineâs/Protonâs court.
i have issue like that also but i can see my toons but cant launch them since the update all i have been getting was a white screen then i verified the shared cache now i can click to launch toons but it just freezes up
on 2 other computers all im getting is the white screen even after a factory reset on one and a new download
CCPlease, I want a checkbox for âuse legacy windows behaviourâ.
Why? Because until yesterday all my clients started nicely centered on my screen at the resolution I had set once.
Today:
I start my first batch of clients: all of them start partly hidden by taskbar.
I move them up a bit.
I start my next batch of clients: all of them start partly hidden by taskbar.
I move them up a bit.
I start my next batch of clients: them start where I moved the last one. looks not too bad.
I maximise one of the clients
I start the next batch of clients: all of them start maximised. WTF? Yeah I know I should have noted my preferred window size but I didnât
I try to get the window size right again⌠on all clients which is rather complicated. AARG. all ingame window positions are f*cked up, overlapping stuff, gaps between windows that were glued together beforeâŚ
I start the next batch of clients: all clients start at random positions - idk what is going on
CCPlease, bring back the old window behaviour!
Oh, while I am at it⌠I am on my tablet now⌠all clients start partly hidden by the taskbarâŚ
oh boo hooâŚ
I just smashed my mouse ($100)
Anger management much? Well, itâs your mouse, not ours. Hope the tax payer didnât fund it.
I GET THIS TOO
Its happens on my laptop running windows 8.1. Was running fine before patch running multiple clients, now just a white screen on the toon selection. Iâve tried verifing files, used different new and old gfx drivers, still nothing. I dont get this problem on my PC running modern hardware and win 10, only my old laptop.
Specs, i7 5700HQ, 16gb ram, gtx960M, windows 8.1.
help
Mainstream end of life: Jan 9, 2018
Windows 8.1 market share: 3.36%
Linux is trending up in market share, Windows 8.1 is in decline.
There is more value in supporting Linux than Windows 8.1.
Staying away from the Abyss until the random freezes/disconnections return to their normal, more acceptable level. Also Escalations seem to be broken atm. Guess Iâll just be playing my market/industry toon for the next few days. Judging by the very low active cap count today (currently 13,714) I guess Iâm not the only one staying away from active ship stuff.
So⌠whenâs the patch for the patch?
Even if the client and desktop are using the same resolution there is a 4-5sec delay (back screen) when switching to or from (happens both ways) EVE. This was not there before this patch. Although quite annoying for general swapping this makes running multiple clients practically unusable.
Please do not dismiss the seriousness of this issue.
