Version 19.09 - Known Issues

Have you tried multiple monitors instead then you can have a client on each screen and no need to alt tab?

What PC specs you running bud? I have same problem. I have this problem on an old laptop running 8.1 windows

That doesnt help me nor I care . Game was running fine BEFORE the patch on same laptop.

Even if I wanted win 10 on this laptop, it dont like it. I’ve tried and had to roll it back.

Sounds like most of you people running multiple clients in full screen mode need to change to window mode if you getting lag and such. Sure, might be the patch, but no issues in windowed mode.

After further analysis these are related.

With Monitor set to 75Hz (native) in windows, starting EVE and opening the FPS display (ctrl-f) it shows 75fps. Alt-tabbing out and back drops the fps to 30 and this and subsequent alt-tab will result in 4-5sec black screen.

Changing the monitor to 30Hz in windows before starting EVE will result in the fps being 30 before and after alt-tabbing and there will now be no delay (4-5s black screen).

The Windows and EVE resolution are the same (3840x1600) it is EVE changing the refresh rate after the first alt-tab that is the issue.

That doesnt help me nor I care . Game was running fine BEFORE the patch on same laptop.

Even if I wanted win 10 on this laptop, it dont like it. I’ve tried and had to roll it back.

No company is going to officially go out of their way to support Windows 8.1 that is officially not supported by the vendor. They don’t even officially support an up to date platform like Linux that is far more supported than Windows 8.1 (which is zilch).

wow…its probably not even the issue and win 8.1 and win 10 virtually the same. I’m waiting for the other guy to reply what his specs are so then we can compare.

Stop with these pointless replies

Wrong, one is end of life, no mainstream support (you have to pay for extended support) and the other is mainstream supported.

You may disagree with me, but facts are facts and you’re welcome to disagree in opinion. Even the vendor states the fact, even charts show the facts.

Pretty sure Windows 8.1 is not in many test matrices. If it works you’re lucky (it’s more unintended and a side effect), like Linux users, if not, tough. Welcome to being unsupported along with the rest of the Linux world.

I am surprised CCP haven’t updated their mininum spec from Windows 7 yet, recommended is Windows 10.

With their move into web gaming, I can see Windows 7 minimum being dumped and upped to W10.

If it’s (8.1) virtually the same as you say, then run W10. Many W7 (the current mininum for Eve) users are moving to W10 (the current recommendation for Eve) or Linux. They aren’t moving to W8.1 and the rest are likely to move to W11. W10 (expected retirement date of Oct 14, 2025) will decline as the rest did quite rapidly in usage.

A valid question perhaps - but not an option for many, especially laptop gamers.

Somewhat synonymous to a tech support drone responding to a call about slow pooter performance with, “Hmmm? Have you tried buying a new PC or laptop?”

It may circumvent an issue - but it’s not addressing the root cause.

I run Linux on multiple monitors on a laptop. Pretty sure it’s easier thesedays, not sure what century you’re in.

Alt tabbing works fine on Proton/Wine on Linux btw and on multi monitors.

You miss the point. You, me and whoever may have the budget - others will not, and for them it is not a valid option.

More importantly, it does not address the root cause.

Arrogance and assumption is the root of all ills.

My laptop isn’t exactly new either. Quite dated by today’s gaming laptops. Works fine on multiple monitors and alt tabbing on Linux with Proton and Wine.

So how does that address the issues that Windows users face after the update? It doesn’t.

No point continuing this futher. Enjoy your day.

If you’re using integrated (not dedicated GPU and VRAM) graphics, get more (fast) memory, it’s also slow memory as it shares general memory, no dedicated (or low) video memory.

Nobody in their sane mind expects serious gaming on integrated graphics. If you have a hybrid integrated (low power) and dedicated GPU, check it’s using the dedicated GPU and not integrated.

Consider also reducing your settings and running less, perhaps change priority a tad on the Eve process.

For those experiencing extreme lag switching between clients, this is something that I’d found common for some time.

Changing the display mode to fixed window at your desired resolution resolves the issue (or used to anyway!) without losing any of the “fullscreen feel” if that makes sense?

Give it a go, save yourself from smashing up a mouse or three.

So basically use Native resolutions and not mixed. Resolution mode changes will do odd things.

It’s not really that, it’s a problem common with fullscreen games and I believe is something to do with windows rather than the game itself, though clearly there’s things that can be done to mitigate it if people have been tabbing between fullscreen instances without this problem in the past.

Running fixed window (essentially a borderless window at your selected resolution) stops the fullscreen handoff message to windows which - in layman’s terms! - seems to be what causes the problem.

TLDR: Windows does weird sh*t.

Nail. Head.

I’ve only ever experienced an issue with fullscreen, borderless on one other title. - and then, not so pronounced or extreme as the currently reported issue.

Im my case I have a i9-9900K, 32GB DDR4 @3200, ROG Strix mobo, Strix 2080S A8G, with SSD’s Samsung M.2 NVMe @ 3500MB/R, 3200MB/W and generic M.2 @2000 MB/R, 1100 MB/W. I don’t think my hardware is the problem. Drivers? I have no idea.

I get that Windows is not perfect (if we want near-perfection we’d need to look at the likes of BSD and not Linux or Widnows ).

Personally, as far as the gaming experience goes after the last update, I’m happy using workarounds. But my autism is not satisfied with ‘Doze does weird s***’. Said autism wants to know why, on October 12 no issues and why on Oct 13 framerate drops to as low 30fps and never-before-experienced alt-tabing issues.

My autism can be frustrating - both for me and for others - but I’ve learned to live with it. (Edit: Others, not so much)
