Version 20.09 - General Feedback

100% GPU usage is what you are asking for if you disable vsync , your confusion confuses me ?
You’re basically saying to your graphics card “go all out and keep drawing screens as fast as you can”. And that’s exactly what its trying to do ! Lowering your setting just means you will get even more dropped frames than higher settings , but still 100% usage in both cases is what you are requesting the card to attempt to achieve.

As you say the 1 sec tic that matters is on the server , not on your client , you don’t gain any “twitch benefit” by removing vsync in eve. All you do in increase the amount of money you pay to your electricity provider while fuglying up your graphic experience with tearing artifacts.
Maybe rely on Intelligence rather than intuition in this case and switch vsync on.

I know, I did. V-Sync (aka synchronization) decreases the performance of video cards a bit in case your video card is not outperforming the in game graphics requirements. “Intuitively” means that in many other games, when I disable V-Sync, my bottom fps is on 10-15 fps higher while top level fps just floating from 80 to 180 fps without top GPU loading. Read my post: “even while idling in a station with minimal graphic settings (“potato mode”) the GPU is on 98% load level”. It’s my feedback.

Yeah. But is there any reason to render the same server status (server tic), even its interpolated positions on the client side, 500 or 1000 times even on RTX 4090Ti? Considering most gaming monitors have around 120 Hz refresh rate.

Exactly. It’s the context of my feedback. Well, with this V-Sync On and normal graphical settings my video card consumes between 50 and 80 W, otherwise - between 120 and 140 W without any improvements to the visual quality.

ccp starts deleting posts without notification again.

I’m enjoying the new UI. I love to see changes like these. I notice I needed to switch to compact mode on a lot of my dialogue boxes in order to save space. Other than that, the UI looks great and preserves functionality. Updates like this will keep EVE relevant and hopefully increase its popularity. Great job, dev team.

photon UI is literally the Juicero Juicer in software.

Hi
Is it possible to eliminate the freeze that happens every time I click “Align to” ?
By the time it unfreezes it’s already at the 75% speed for warp and so the “Jump” button is delayed.

Another question if I may.
Why is it when I click “Warp to Within” then “0” my ship ends up over 1,500km away from the gate/station?
First of all, “Within 0” is not possible but that’s besides the point.
I think setting bookmarks should be emphasized in the tutorial.
Thanks for reading.

I still seeing the gallente bar for the gate still raising up, even tho caldari have finish first: CCP should now remove the event and add the gate

Literaly the only improvement with Photon UI (apart from being able to disable it, tbh) is the Drone menu having the drone commands available with a single click. But that doesn’t really add much to those who already got used to shortkeys or simply don’t use droneboats or carriers much.

This is an unpopular opinion but I’ll be frank here: EVE’s UI has never been good in the first place, and has always been one of the worst aspects of this game imo (we don’t call it “spreadsheets in space” for nothing). It’s kinda wild how a game with so many years of development still has such a cluttered UI that in some PCs you can barely see what’s happening. Photon doesn’t fix any of the issues and actualy just clutters the UI even more than it already is.

I’m a fan of the photon UI. I think a lot of people are missing the fact this is still BETA and further improvement will follow.

I’m sure you’ll find the right balance CCP.

Onto more pressing matters, while the Faction Warfare events have been welcomed, I have to say it’s been a major disappointment on the GalMil side.

With the entire constellation under Caldari control and existing GalMil numbers low, I feel it’s just pushed people to play on CalMil alts or not interact with the event at all.

I’m fully aware it’s up to us as players to change these situations, it’s just made it extra difficult for GalMil to get motivated about it, given that entire constellation already handicapped us.

Maybe we’ll see some push soon, but we’re currently outmatched 3:1 just on raw numbers, it’s made it an event not worth pursuing when you’re that outnumbered.

One does not force-enable Beta onto customers. Unless you are CCP… You assume further improvement will follow, but people like @Arrendis have been pointing out huge flaws in the UI for a long time, yet improvement has not been forthcoming. Your faith is… cute…

I like the general look of the new UI, but there is a ton of wasted space. Mainly in the window title bars and the buttons. Both of those are just wasting too much space and look a little out of place. Typically, you would want the buttons and title bars of windows to be more compact in relation to the text they contain. That’s a pretty standard UX practice. If the UI wasn’t didn’t require so much information and real estate, I could see wasting a little space on those, but as it stands, you really need to keep things as slimmed down as possible. Overall, the look is pretty good though.

I’ve never been a fan of the UI changes they made to windows with this flat UI, not having definitive separation between elements has always bothered me. I prefer windows to have defined and visible borders, title bars that have a separation by color etc. The whole flat UI makes is not efficient for finding what you need to click on, drag, etc. I always end up making specific UI elements in windows stand out by making the title bars of windows at least a different color than the window itself - this might be useful in the client - but you would have to really play with it and see.

I would take a pass at all the window elements and at least try to tighten up the wasted space as much as possible and I think people will like it more. I think you could at least halve the amount of blank space around the top and bottom of the text for buttons and title bars and people would probably not complain about it as much.

Re: the Photon UI feedback

The Good:

  • Looks nice.
  • Selected Target buttons are nice, especially being able to make that window smaller.
  • I like the bigger buttons for things like loot, undock, etc.

The Bad:

  • Drone window; The drones in space scale really badly for some reason.
  • The lack of dividers on the inventory screen makes things pretty hard to see.
  • Going into compact mode removes close window “x”, which is pretty annoying.

The Ugly (ie makes it unusable):

  • Any window with lots of text causes really bad eyestrain. It’s either the background is too dark, the text is too bright or a combination of them both. It happens with all combinations of settings. The normal UI has much less contrast issues, I noticed that the photon UI doesn’t really change the background colour of the windows and feels like it has much brighter text. The ability to adjust the brightness of the text would make a massive difference. It’s specifically the text, the buttons are no issue at all, but as soon as I look at the text my eyes start screaming.

Not sure if this is because of today’s patch or because server issues, but I’m getting a lot of disconnects now. So far, 5 in the last 60 minutes.

photon ui is still way way way too crude, underdeveloped, uncustomizable, buggy and overall triggering…i have no idea why the need to change the basic way some windows interact and decrease their functionality, why change some windows and button locations, and why for the love of god why some baffling changes like changing the speedometer color…i tried to like it, i really did but you didnt put in half the work needed to make it good while at the same time forcing it on people? i hope you never make it default and remove the old ui because that could really be a gamebreaker for me…not as much in functionality but as proof this company really doesnt listen to its community and focuses development rescources on jibberish

ps: ui update isnt something that this game needs fixed atm while it needs A LOT of other stuff fixed dont further break the good parts of your game unneceseraly …get some FOCUS

Ran Photon in one account while legacy on the other for months now and enjoyed seeing the periodic improvements to spacing, wrapping etc. Still struggling to find some stuff in the Dscan and Fleet windows that were completely revamped. Still a few bugs such as the odd open space in the drone window (see below) which waste a ton of space. Perhaps made it default a bit early, but for the most part, it is workable now. But like all things, change comes hard–continue the good work.

Well frankly since I’m old and a bit blind the GIANT freaking text crowds the screen to much - once again why did my favorite game take another fraking dive? Get rid of this Photon BS.
While I’m actually here - highly rare since you don’t appear to listen to us anyway:

  • Scarcity not fixed.
  • Indy not fixed.
  • BRM not fixed.
and quit nerfing our favorite ships - just BS what you did to the Barges and going back a bit - the Drake.
Sandbox my ass, quit fixing what’s not broken…
Cheers since I now need a drink. CJ

I like the UI. It’s slick smooth and gives me just the right info on the right parts of the screen. Plus I can move and resize just about everything around. I dig it.
