My old 14-day trial character whose log-in and name I have forgotten.

That’s one of the things I don’t miss! I quit and came back a couple of weeks later just to fraps them in battle. Hence the name and “How I learned to pvp in 29 days.” Sounds likes the name of a cheap book!

Dark Elf - He jumped me with his Pilgrim back in 2006 and started me down the road to really enjoying the game. A lovely guy to virtually hang with and his passing was infinitely too soon.

Watching from the viewpoint of my little 2006 Stabber somewhere in Tenerifis a parade of BoB pilots in fleet marching to war against the Russians/Goons. Untold numbers of Vagabonds and other uber-expensive ships (for the time). And a bit later seeing and experiencing my first Titan… -LV- forever!

FC’ing the UK Corp multi-freighter evac. You want engaging? Bring that back to the game. Snuck that mess out under everyone’s nose.

The boys of Goinard/Passari. Weedmasta, Smog Monster, Cheeb, Hussman, and a whole host of miscreants under Verone’s Veto gleefully slaughtering and fighting (and 99.9% winning) all comers. There was even a memorable slaughter of an ISD/CCP Dev event (learn to fly noobs ). I would be 10 jumps away from Goinard/Passari…call a warpin on some missioning shmuck…and it was throwing prime rib at a pack of wolves as they blasted down the pipe holding short drooling and waiting for the magic words…“Point…damped…warp to Bone at zero” . And having the discipline to check fire for the ransom!

Catching a literal FLEET of freighters. In losec. With escort.

Ransoming pilots. And honoring the terms. And being -10 (urrggg and grinding that ■■■■ back multiple times). Being a real swashbuckling -10 yarrr ganksta.

Mission busting the living ■■■■ out of losec. Cheetah tackle with damps=“Iwin”. Sorry about your RL money for ISK Raven/Domi/etc. That was when using probes was ridiculously hard…fortunately Dr Drac was the bestest probe/scout pilot ever and a patient teacher.

Enjoyable Crime and Punishment tales. Even knuckleheads like Ginger Magician made for entertaining reading. Never mind the pew exploits of Garmon, Cowan (mooooo), a bottomless list of awesome.

Learning the art of troll from Butterdog and Lilan Kahn while kicking Provi Amarr scum…and making the rest of U’K butthurt too (Long Live Hobo’s). Also hunting down offline POS’s and nuking the modules for ISK…what a money spinner.

Taking 20 minutes to solo kill a Tempest with a damp-Rapier.
Taking 20 minutes to kill a brick Drake in a Pilgrim.

Learning the apex game via SNIGG/PL. You scout for Shadoo…you better be pro.

Discovering the joy of wormholes on introduction. Before POS’s/structures.

So many stories. So many people.

The mechanics of the game may change…I have left and returned a couple times now after lengthy breaks…the quality of time spent with fun memorable people never does.

well to be fair it is a pretty dumb idea to try and brawl a vindi lol

Well I was enjoying your reminiscences up until you got all uppity rust-worshiper there.

Verone changed form and became an entity you might know, ya know?

I miss the atmosphere that was part of the game:

  • You were a rare mortal that survived the process to become immortal through clones. You were feared among the common people. You were rumored to control every aspect of a ship from within your egg (the debate about having crews or not). Your reputation was everything.
  • Amarr citizens had no remorse for the fate of their slaves, the Minmatars. And if one died from an overdose of their mind controlling drugs, so be it since it was God’s decision.
  • Caldari society was borderline militaristic while Gallente society was quite free flowing and open, causing the two to despise each other deeply.
  • The short lived run of E-ON was great reading away from the game.
  • The numerous CCP written stories about aspects to the gaming world fleshed out the background without being pushy about it. From my faded memory, “Hand of a Killer” (?) - the story about how we capsulers went through mere mortals without a care in the universe.
  • “Prostitute - a dirty woman.” (?)
  • Dealing with drugs was a definite no-no which always pushed for a black market angle to the game.
  • CCP Oveur (paraphrased) “We drink here in Iceland since there are no women and nothing else to do…”
  • Tournaments that were not policed by political correctness, had players use their own ISK to practice within the gaming world so others could potentially spy upon them. And while the game’s core was to best the other player in any possible fashion, tournament pilots appeared to play fairly and not throw matches.
  • The players’ original appearances: we looked like we were straight out of Cyberpunk or Shadowrun while living in a Blade Runner type of world. Everything was dark and dirty with feeble chances of hope or survival.

Just some random thoughts.

The reincarnation of V I am well aware of having kept track of the game over the years. And having met the spacker at a London EvE-meet a billion years ago he looks exactly the same…minus hair.

As for Provi running dog Amarr slaver scum low rent inhabitants…well:

Victim: Ankhesentapemkah
Corp: Ammatar Free Corps
Alliance: Curatores Veritatis Alliance

Enough said :smirk:

The Jukebox. One of the worst decisions made by CCP. Almost as bad as their customer service.

The dual rep VNI

Really?
That’s getting better…

I will miss those bitter vets that nerd rage quit because they could not handle change. :stuck_out_tongue:

I just came back and noticed the captain’s quarters are gone. When did they remove them?

The sandbox, daily kill for sp, an invasions are not sandbox material.

This game is going the way of a lot of other mainstream MMOs have gone. Used to ask the question 'What’s the best MMO? Now it’s a case of: 'What’s the least bad MMO?

The MMO industry is a mess, seems devs seem to think that getting you to run around the way they want you to is fun.

How they want it flown is how I was flying it already, and it was better at it before they f’d with it. It lost the utility high that allowed for a 2nd nos. Sure it will rep 80 extra hp/s but its capped out in 45s and that’s with 0 prop use. Max of 6 rep cycles, wont even empty the ancil. Not to mention its 100dps down. So yeah, its dead.
