What is Eve Online?

Ahahahahaa! Oh my god man, you’re really starting to lose it. That’s quite the post.

I won’t even attempt refuting it point by point because you’ve just gone way too far down the rabbit hole.

I’m pretty much a one-trick pony. I’m quite direct. I’m very clear in my points. There is no hidden agenda.

You seem to have trouble coping with that, so here, I’ll lay it out for you nice and simple. Here’s my “secret saboteur devious interlocutor manipulative logic-twister” agenda:

  • I expect CCP to walk their talk. To provide the product they keep telling us they will.
  • I expect CCP to give us millions of dollars worth of game development for the millions of dollars we send them.
  • I expect CCP to treat their customers with respect, rather than as a herd of sheep to be fleeced, manipulated and lied to.
  • I expect CCP to treat their product, that we pay for, with professionalism and integrity.
  • I expect CCP to learn from their mistakes and build on their successes, rather than the opposite.

I do not expect, but I really really wish, that CCP would get their act together and market their game and monetization models better so they make more money and then use that money to build a better EVE, because EVE is what we’re paying them for. Not 10 different failed projects. EVE.

To that end, when CCP does something right, I congratulate them. When they do something wrong, I point it out and criticize them, generally with some sort of hint at the direction they should be taking.

That’s it. That’s the whole agenda. I don’t need to find ways to blame the player base for what’s wrong with EVE. I know who’s responsible for that. I don’t need to try and finger-point at groups so I can demonize them and make everything “their fault”. I don’t need to hairsplit and twist words in order to warp the situation to fit my strange perspective.

And I do firmly believe that, from time to time, CCP needs a wakeup call to shake them out of their lazy complacency and lack of understanding of the player base or good game design principles. So I have no problem saying “vote with your feet and your wallet. Send a message that can’t be ignored.”

If you want to call that devious mastermind sabotage Karening, that’s up to you. I think it’s pretty clear and pretty straightforward, myself.

Not what it once was, that’s for sure…

Now it is just pleasant memories of times and people gone.

Frontiers and good adventures in gaming that were great and can never be taken, but sorry, it’s essentially done.

EvE is in a decaying orbit around the drain now.

With EvE, I’ve experienced gaming most people wouldn’t believe… Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Cloud Ring… I watched lasers glitter in the dark near the Gates… I’ve had the satisfaction of building things with others. and I’ve played the markets. I’ve stood on the decks of corvettes, frigates, haulers, freighters, and titans… Many moments of enjoyment with EvE… All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

haha overmind dead hahahahah hahahahaha hahahaha

You’re going full hyena, Aiko - never go full hyena…

Really? Is that what EVE is to you?

“Pandora’s box is an artifact in Greek mythology connected with the myth of Pandora in Hesiod’s Works and Days. He reported that curiosity led her to open a container left in the care of her husband, thus releasing physical and emotional curses upon mankind.”

So EVE is like a conductor for physical and emotional curses… lmao

You really need to finish reading xD. I was also joking… its people’s own fault if they let addiction take over.

No, Aiko went full yandere.

In Yandere Simulator, as you murder more and more people, you become more and more visibly unhinged (a dark aura, twitchy eye, etc.), and the way you restore your sanity is by doing a crazy yandere anime girl laugh:

Excellent game by the way. A true open-world sandbox.

I did. I rarely leave things halfway done.

I agree 100%
unless the addiction was pushed on them at early age.

You will be surprised how many people on here read the first 2 lines only then form a response its staggering.

There there now now

Re titel of thread:
It is for me still the best game/community out there, because of its complexity and its freedom, and because of the variety of people who populate the sandbox.
EvE is literally what you yourself make of it. That is perhaps, at the same time, a big chunk of the learning curve.
EvE is never what you expect of it at first, not the least of which is the need for long term planning.
EvE is a challenge to one’s own abilities, daring you to improve, to be daring and creative, to recognize and balance risk, to experience the value of co-operating with other players for higher and longer lasting achievements.
EvE is the greatest HTFU or GTFO game, although that, lately, has come under pressure.

It’s also the game that has a forum where @Shipwreck_Jones can start new threads about subjects that span several bookshelves.

I noticed. Lazy is as lazy does. I do read the whole post unless I disagree so much that I won’t finish reading, then I wouldn’t even reply.

Bro, meme is required for that phrase, don’t use the classics wrong plz.

Hello @Shipwreck_Jones ,

First of all thank you for responding.

Know that I am in no way doing this in order to sabotage the morale of the community. In 19 years, I have hardly ever intervened on the forum. Even in 2011, when I had very good reasons to take part in the collective anger of the players, I remained distant and discreet. In 19 years, I have only observed the reactions of players and their suggestions, including those you quote (by the way, none of them are related to any request for the introduction of PLEX, clone ALPHA and OMEGA, of extractor and injector, of EPP, etc. - the 2003-2009 players of which I am a part did not even consider it), giving me my own opinion on the evolution of the game, year after year, while always keeping me away from the CSM in which I do not believe, and this on the sole reading of the rules of procedure imposed on them by CCP; no French democrat normally constituted can accept/tolerate such internal rules doomed to failure; moreover CCP should already take this into account before imposing anything on us. And if exchanges were to take place between me and other French-speaking players, mainly friends, it was always during a drink or two on the terrace of a café, but never here on this forum.

Also, if I intervene only today, it is necessarily for a good reason. OK ! Already, that is said! Next,

EvE Online is for all of us a nugget that would gain a lot if and only if CCP really agreed to listen to the voices that can concretely make a difference. I wouldn’t post on this forum if I wasn’t sure what I had to say to them wasn’t important. In the same way, I would not intervene on this forum if I did not wish to address my message to CCP while sharing it with the whole of the community which remains free to discuss it, or not.

You write to me that you are not a psychologist, which is in no way a problem in order to be able to debate freely between us. However, you don’t know who I am, except for this 19-year-old avatar: Ully Loom, knowing that it is not the statistics of this character that can give credit to my point IRL. Only CCP can know who I really am and what value they can really place on my message if they choose.

So you accuse me of taking part in sabotaging the morale of the community. You are wrong. Already, it was not me who provoked the collective anger of 2011, nor the decline that followed, and even less the anger of April-May-June 2022, nor the current decline, in particular because of this delirious inflation of +33%.

+33%? Forgive me, but does this number mean absolutely nothing to you? Ah! Sorry ! You are not an economist either. For more than a decade now, CCP has been accumulating serious rookie mistakes on the marketing, commercial and strategic levels. It is also CCP which, against all expectations, dangerously interferes in 2022, with the persistent universe of New Eden which is 7,700 years after Christ, and which in fact is no longer one today.

Also, there always comes a time when you have to know how to call a spade, a spade! And that’s what I’m doing today. OK ! Already, that too, is said! Finally,

Since CCP’s servers were able to support a load of over 60,000 simultaneous connections with computer technologies of the years 2000-2010, why wouldn’t they be able to support two separate loads, say 2x30,000, spread over two different servers with technologies from 2010-2020. By opening a NOSTALGIA type server (specimen name) allowing the deployment of EvE Online without PLEX nor ALPHA and OMEGA clone, without extractor nor injector, etc., while reinforcing/securing the persistent side of New Eden, it is to say by granting from the start, a limited amount of resources for each belt (a simple equation to determine this amount is quite easy to find), that the downtime would never reset, I am sure that CCP would know like Blizzard, a rebound of the number subscriptions with two types of player profiles for two types of offer:

1- players who are content with a luxury arena where they just have to pay to progress: you want to buy IRL 20,000 PLEXs? OK ! In this case, your character will be a character exclusive to the TRANQUILITY server!

2- players who want to take part in the evolution of a persistent universe on which the publisher never interferes, except on the technical and graphic aspects: you want to play a real MMO-RPG-RTS? OK ! In this case, your character will be an exclusive character of the NOSTALGIA server!

On NOSTALGIA, could New Eden know a new era of extinction of Humanity? Wouldn’t you try this anthropological experiment?

I’d entirely dispute your definition. ‘Bittervet’ is not about actual experience and accomplishment in a game. It is far more a state of mind in which whatever experience there has been is inflated and rose tinted because a person wants to maintain their self perceived status within that game.

When bittervets complain that a game has gone to the dogs and is no longer the game they used to play…the real message is ’ you can never match my status, because the game isn’t the same game any more '. There’s a perversity by which such vets often are not so much complaining about change, but using the fact that the game has changed to cement their glorious past. It is ultimately all about ego.

Well, Shipwreck Jones finds it quite uncomfortable when I tell him he needs to support his accusations with proof, references, some sort of corroboration. He then tries to paint that method of argument as trickery, bad-faith, undercover sabotage. Well of course he would, because I do it and he has never yet been able to. (Except for one small screenshot of one quote from some discussion he had.)

Here’s what I claimed:

Here’s what happened:

First negative post: Mr Epeens. A valid view of EVE even though exaggerated hyperbole. Shipwreck replies with “You’re an idiot and a troll” and then gets flagged, so he tries to say the same things again but with sarcasm and facetiousness.

Second negative post: Scoflo Rotineque’s “it’s a second job where CCP is reducing my salary, I may have to switch”.
Shipwreck replies with “I made mad ISK, if you didn’t that’s your fault.” Then immediately assumes Scoflo is a bittervet “Yes I too was once a bittervet”. Then tells him to stop listening to bittervets and stop complaining. Then after Scoflo tries to point out that Shipwreck is making incorrect assumptions, Shipwreck posts more about “wormtongue bitter vets poisoning morale” and how it’s their fault the game’s in a bad place.

Then Ully posts a negative response, and Shipwreck trots out a massive, illustrated post about how bittervets are killing the game, and then goes on to imply that the key difference between EVE ‘back in the day’ (you know, when it was growing) and now is that now, bittervets are sabotaging the game. Yes, the key difference between EVE of 2009 and 2022 is bittervet sabotage.

I post, and Shipwreck trots out this wierd fantasy “you’re an extremely clever undercover saboteur Mr. Bond but I’ve got you now!” brain spasm. Heck knows where he comes up with these things.

What’s here? Every negative post jumped on, mostly with disrespect or misunderstanding.

Notice what’s missing here? Any replies to positive posts. One long post was a wandering mix of semi-positive and semi-negative so he gave that “I don’t agree with all that, but have a like”.

So, yeah, QED. Thread posted as bait for negative opinions so he could start waving the “bitter vets are ruining the game” crusade flags again. Corroborating evidence provided.

You’re welcome.
