What is HAPPENING TO EVE?

The rest of your reply makes that abundantly clear.

  • A pumice cannot deliver logic… but oh! how nicely portrayed it can be!

  • No, somehow the pumice bearer might believe it but hardly convinces anyone else.

Hans Devin needs to do more thinkin’ and less devin’

Honestly, I don’t care about “the relative value of EVE to other games” because I don’t play other games. When EVE stops being fun I unsub and take a break.

If you’re not happy with the price then vote with your wallet. That’s a metric CCP can measure and then take appropriate action. Forum tears are pointless.

Complaining is useless, just like playing games, but people simply enjoy doing it. It’s fun.

Unsubbing is a great, personal solution for people who aren’t invested, like me, but just like to get to the fast content quickly, for short durations.

Those guys with a dozen accounts, EVE websites and alliance bureaucracy jobs are in too deep. They need the game to succeed, for themselves. Sunk cost and all that.

Even if they want to send a message by temporarily unsubbing together with their corp mates, it still won’t send a message. This is because the top-down managerial approach to game design doesn’t work.
This is easy to see with a grindy game like EVE, or MMOs in general: is an activity popular because it’s fun, or because it makes the most credits, or simply because it’s accessible? No way to tell from the participation numbers.

Only with a bottom-up approach, putting yourself in the position of the type of player you want to attract, can a game designer deliberately improve a game experience. Even surveys are no good substitute.

As someone who took a 2 year hiatus here are my observations:

I left because RL made it hard to maintain Eve infrastructure. I had moved into WH space and lost a POS in 2017 when I was unable to refuel due to RL events and then again in 2020, also due to RL events. I decided to take a hiatus because RL has been continually more aggressive. However I eventually came back because the other games out there SUCK. I’ve noticed a number of similar stories. There are probably a lot of folks who lost game infrastructure because they or a family member also got sick or shot. A significant portion of the player base is literally in a RL war.

In addition EVE is the opposite of safe space so it’s very much not in line with current cultural trends. That’s why I came back so I really hope it stays this way. Eventually the trend will turn around. However I’ve even seen decade plus EVE players ranting and claiming to rage quit over toxic behavior. This tends to get a lot of traction in social media. As if this was something new. New Eden is downright quiet compared to the past…

Add on to this it’s mid summer and you have some people in the northern hemisphere touching grass, especially after being caged in during lockdowns.

I was very disappointed to see the departure of community outreach members like CCP Falcon and Mimic, among many others. I feel like this community interaction played a crucial role in the game. Sure MMOs always go “it’s all about the community” but this is uniquely important to EVE.

Then of course you have the price hike, which comes at the cusp of a global economic crisis. That’s going to price some folks out for sure. Can’t say whether this is a good or bad decision. I want to see CCP succeed and keep the game alive. They’ve already flushed so much money down the toilet. OTOH it does feel risky and for those many will feel the pinch they will likely choose to unsub. The sub fee is quite high for a game that is known for exceptionally high numbers of alt accounts.

The new player experience is actually much improved. I decided to roll a new character and was impressed with the improvements. Having audible directions while learning to fly should really help. I do think there is still some detail missing. Especially using shortcuts and managing the camera angle. I’ve seen first time streamers struggle a bit with this but it’s way better. This isn’t the type of change you make to a game you don’t plan to support in the long term. The graphics improvements were also quite noticeable and welcome after returning.

So there is a lot pressing down on the numbers right now but I still have faith that the game will survive the long term and likely outlive most of us. Trying to bring in new players is a good thing and suggests CCP/PA aren’t throwing in the towel any time soon.

Just play on Singularity if RL keeps pulling you away or include New Eden as a part of your real life and treat it like a coffee break. Do you take time out where you can just sit infront of the pc for 20 to 30 minutes at a time on Tranquliity? then perhaps setup some PI and try to maintain that one a day or two to still make you feel that your pilot is achieving something. Then when more times arrises return to what you mentioned “maintain Eve infrastructure”

It is a sandbox and nothing is really static unless you never undock Jita 4.4

Lot of boomers about these days.

We disagree and that’s all good with me. If we all agreed, this place would be just as awful as a gankless HS.

Taking into account Omega subscription and that I also buy PLEX…Eve is actually the MMO I spend least on…about 1/4 of all my MMO spending. Some aspects of other MMOs are waaaay more expensive than Eve.

Wrong again Devin’ but keep tryin’

You almost hit on a thing there

LOL, It’s been real Ramona…

I’m logged playing the game looking for gas to huff. In a few hours I meeting up to go on Low sec roam with friends.

You’ll just have to find some one else to bait…LOL…bubbye

I have no idea what you have been on about.

So Mittens had no action put against him when he publicly told a person to kill themselves while sitting on a live panel with CCP, but years later is found to be covering for a pedo and that finally gets rid of him. Nice.

So now he controls the goons through an alt / associate? :stuck_out_tongue:

Mittens got permabanned from SomethingAwful.

He will definitely hold onto the Imperium Merch side of things and use alts to carry on for sure. GSF is a nice cash cow for him on the side of things.

One can hope that they get prosecuted and given life without the possibility of parole for the crimes committed here.

You animal!

Plus gankers. Gankers caused, as the anti-gankers would claim, like 90 bazillion percent decrease in player retention. Especially new players.
