PLEX unspent is a liability for CCP. It is 100% better for CCP to give away PLEX from botters/RMT/etc than to create it out of thin air. I have no idea why you are focusing so much on the PVP fest when it is not the biggest source of PLEX that CCP rewards players.
I’m confused and amused by your simultaneous replies, which have nothing to do with what I wrote.
I was simply sharing a feeling I had, as a paying customer.
It seemed to me to be a lapse in the Company’s style.
And regarding the winners, well, everything has already been said elsewhere.
In New Eden, inflation is the real Endgame Boss. Back in the day: ‘Here’s 50% off Omega, fly safe.’ Now: ‘Here’s 15% off and a skin that looks like your ship lost a bet.’
I’m just waiting for the next deal:
‘Subscribe now and receive 5% off plus a complimentary sense of pride and accomplishment.’ But hey, at least the skins are helping… somewhere… probably… in a parallel universe where my wallet tanks better than my ship.
And then you read something that sounds like: ‘here you go, three years of free play!! Oh, and here’s 24 months of free play for you! And you? what do you want? ok, ok, seven months for you.
What do you all have to do? Well, go, play the game as it is (maybe grinding a few alts), i’ll make money from the adverts anyway.’
Brilliant lol
You must not be aware.
Everyone knows that skins on a ship assist with falloff range, target tracking, EHP and align/warp speed. ![]()
Those few winners are an example of what is possible, which appeals to people that want to be the best. Competition breeds competitors. Competitors bring money.
If that’s how they make players compete, the company is seriously running out of ideas.
But you are deliberately avoiding the point.
It’s ok by my side, i understood.
I’m not avoiding the point at all.
CCP doesnt really need to do anything to get people to compete. you put any form of leaderboard on anything and some people will always choose to compete to be the top of the list.
What I’m saying is that rewarding players for those competitions is covered under publicity and marketing, which in i think most companies that are consumer facing have a budget for.
Promoting those competitions and highlighting those lucrative rewards are near free marketing. It’s publicity, it’s appealing to the competitive nature of video game players. That will help bring other competitive players into the game that will try to win those lucrative rewards. May not be a lot of people, but bringing in some paying customers for little tangible cost is just good business.
Is what ‘you put in’ that matters for me.
I didn’t feel motivated to pay for my subscription by the ‘publicity’ of that ridiculous competition.
I don’t know how to explain it anymore.
This is where you might consider my words hostile. I am not trying to be hostile, so please take my words for what they are.
What you feel does not matter for this subject. It’s what other people feel, whether they know they feel it or not. You can’t underestimate the competitive nature of video game players. Marketing has a degree of psychology involved. I am no expert on that subject, I simply understand some methods involved.
You are only one person, not all people. You can’t speak for other people with any level of legitimacy.
Edit to include that I am in agreement with you. I am also not interested or motivated to continue paying my subscription based on any competitions.
You’re right, I don’t care how I feel, what matters to me is how the player who wins seven months of free subscription by shooting at their puppets feels.
Sorry, it’s all clear to me now.
Thanks and good night.
I fear that if I were to roll my eyes any harder, they might fall out.
I will attempt to explain in more detail. First, please refrain from assuming that opposition to your opinion is some form of attack against your person.
Competitions with rewards are frequently used as promotional material in advertisements, which can be earmarked under marketing budgets. This means the cost of plex, which it appears you might believe are real objects and not just data that can be fabricated with no loss, is covered under a budget.
Competitions that highlight lucrative rewards are commonly used to appeal to potential players that have a much more aggressive competitive nature than you might have. This means that those competitions and events are not directed at you. You are just one person. The target for such things are people that exist that are not you.
It appears you believe those people that win such competitions are all cheating. I do not know the validity of that, and I will not argue about it.
The point that you are trying so hard to miss, is that CCP is getting nearly free publicity. Some months of omega time to a few people are of little consequence. Again, that is covered under a budget. This means that the cost is accounted for long before the competitions or events are held.
The target demographic for this marketing method are people that have a more pronounced competitive nature. Not all of the people that see the marketing for this are current players. Meaning, for very little cost, CCP is gaining income.
CCP gaining income is a good thing since presumably, all of us that are currently supporting this video game company with our money are enjoying the content we are paying for. More income means more development and the continued existence of the content we enjoy.
Many people have argued and will continue arguing that “deals” are not worth anything to them. That is fine. Those deals do not have to appeal to everyone. Those deals appeal to other people, potentially new people that do not have the skins or whatever else is offered in those deals.
To sum all of this up, Not everything is about you. Other human beings exist.
Just so I can understand your viewpoint some. Are you attempting to claim that I am the same person as Aiko Danuja?
4 years ago I was an alt of someone named ko ko. less than a week ago i was an alt of my corp leader. now I am an alt of Aiko?
I should have realized the moment I read this statement that you are disingenuous.
That is not what is communicated by CCP. They do not generate PLEX out of thin air. Each PLEX in the game has to be paid by someone.
I am hesitant to even respond to you, knowing how you operate.
I’ll give you the benefit of doubt this time.
Besides plex that is taken from banned accounts, where do you think they get plex from? To whom do they pay for additional plex to reward events? I alone have gotten 4500 plex from this election event, so where does that come from?
This is the main source. And as I stated earlier, events other than the PVP fest give out way more PLEX, although not all at once. A lot of accounts get banned, last month saw 5k accounts banned (although most of the ISK sellers are just new accounts with nothing).
That is an astonishing amount of plex being taken from banned accounts then.
I can’t tell what happens with the PLEX once they get in the game to end on banned accounts, but it seems EVE has recently attracted quite a few whales. Maybe they also end up getting banned with all their PLEX due to lack of knowledge what is allowed in EVE or not.
Due to the high demand, it seems there is this offer site now linked in all our stores since March 16th, that tells of that 80.000 PLEX offer for 2000EUR/$ (if you click on the offer on the site) or the address of plexsales@ccpgames.com, where you can negotiate your own discount if you are whalier than the average whale, need to bring an empire to its knees and need more than those miserable 80.000 PLEX:
Thanks for the tip, I’m going to offer to buy two million plex for two million kopeks.
