Where are the positive changes though?

People are addicted to the idea of progress. If you believe in progress and want to express it in your gameplay, then surely a Marauder is a better demonstration of progress than a Tech 1 Cruiser.

But if I choose I can make my progress say how many Herons I own, which if I only do Level 1 missions sets 20 Herons as a tricky time consuming goal.

Which I will not enjoy any more than farming up 5 Gilas in abyssals when the task is basically the same, just the scale of reward changes?

People usually aren’t self-aware enough to notice that their spending habits are changing relative to their income. Sensible people would not spend more money just because they have more money to spend, but that’s not what’s happening. The reason for that lies in some rather problematic corruption of society itself, where they believe that the crap they buy defines them as a person.

So when you take this stealthy, yet massive, inferiority complex into consideration, then people are buying the bigger ships simply because they believe that buying the cheaper one makes them look inferior. Their “bar” for what’s acceptable got raised.

Lots of people just “level up their ravens” and then quit …
… because they’ve reached the ceiling.

There are lots of people who realised that going cheap is more fun. It’s not fun because it’s cheap, it’s more fun because less is more. When you use a blinged VNI for missions, then you’re unbeatable. Either you have a really short dick, or you just grind for ISK. When you use a blinged VNI to fight in lowsec (and you know what you’re doing) then you most likely try to get the maximum amount of thrill you can get.

I’ve actually known someone like this. He had a lot of money and the sense of actually using it properly by risking it. Then there’s the real life losers who think that this guy has more money than sense, because he’s just “wasting it” in lowsec.

It’s not about progress. People “level up their raven” because it tickles their feelings of social status and accomplishment. People grind from one level to the next level because it gives them the feeling that they’re reaching a higher social status. Games further underline this by having gear locked behind such level requirements.

“You need to be at least this good to be able to use this gear.”

I personally find this funny, because literally all my excursions into the mindset of such people ended with me fighting extremely inferior NPCs, or quests, several levels above my own. I feel like that’s quite telling about the actual capabilities of the people playing such games.

Yeah I think Im on the same wavelength there.

Im pretty sure I get this theory, and glad I switched to T1.

Anyone wanna buy a Curse?

Only j/k, Im going to fit it for… hmm mining or cargo? Maybe Scanning. Maybe just put Fireworks on it

Nah Im Alpha, I cant even move it lol

Blasphemy. How dare you impugn the sincere… errr, good…err visionary intentions of CCP.

What do you do, when you play?

I think edencom could have had a niarja presence rivaled only by the almighty herself, with multiple devastating player fleets and it still would have fallen to the Trigs to keep that totally by accident perfect 3x3 pochven symmetry.

Wander around, in a T1 prober fit for salvage and combat scanning looking for randomers to buzz, or buy a firesale somewhere stupid and work out how to get it out of where it is. The money isnt important as raising isk for T1 ships of any kind is still very easy.

CCP helped me realise my getting fat trading anchored structures was effortless carebaring when they introduced Cores. I realised Id become a carebear when I cancelled my subs in anger, but then thought

“My god, what have I become”

Now I just like running around causing trouble. Its amazing that even though folk are doing things these days for 10 and 11 figure payouts they still get pissy when I steal “their” wreck or “their” small nos.

Tbh I spend my time looking for fun things to do, which is quite hard, I have discovered.

If you see me about feel free, but I am often on at totally random times and for random lengths of time.

I think Im still in your mining channel lol

I thought you were off having fun in Pocheen?

Well, that sadly isn’t going to happen, because for that I’d have to log in on my own.

I can’t really get myself to play, because my corpmate’s rarely ever around to log in.
It’s not even once a day. That’s not his fault, but it is how it is.
It makes things feel meaningless.

I can’t get myself to play solo at all. I’ve tried again yesterday. Shot some drones to gain standings.
Then wondered what’s that going to achieve, wehn he ultimately doesn’t have the time to play anyway.

Such a sad state of affairs. At least now I feel better knowing that I am not alone in my ennui.

Should be said that the trig forces batphones EVERYONE to please fight for niarja, didn’t join until a friend I haven’t seen in years begged for any ship that can fit a gun. And I’m certain I wasn’t the only one arriving like that, there were multiple trig fleets going before EDENCOM even arrived at the scene.

When it comes to Niarja, I reject the narrative it was rigged. People tried hard to turn it, and did everything in their power to do so. That a fair number of ECs afterwards claimed that Caldari NPCs were unable to stand against trigs just says a bit about their engagement.

Ui are united in our ennui

We must… eh cant be bothered… finishing… words… line

Some do. Doesn’t make their play style any less valid than yours.

If ‘the idea of progress’ is something people ‘believe’ in then why there is a clear line of progression drawn in the ship tree from frigate up to a titan, with even increasing money, ability, and skill requirements. For me when i was a new player it was absolutely clear that i start with these meager tiny noob ships and then level my way up to all the juicy endgame stuff.

Its like putting up a sign “Go that way” and then say “no you aint supposed to go that way”

You are going to have to find your own path. Just because some CCP graphic designer drew a picture doesn’t mean that owning a Titan will make you happy.

So just wondering what CCPs plan was to create a perfect 9x9x9 Pochven if Niarja didn’t fall. Come on, being intelligent enough to post here on the forums, I reject the narrative that this was player driven content. Player participating content, perhaps, but the outcome was never in question. Otherwise, if you insist on clinging to the former narrative, I have some lovely wormholes for sale as part of a leaving eve firesale you may be interested in.

They had hundreds of potential systems. If Niarja didn’t fall, one of the other systems would have.
