I can’t be arsed enough about a game to scroll through a bunch of cute/clever one-liners, in a single thread, about a PC game (EVE). (Some post are funny/clever as hell… But still). Among the options for how to spend fun time, going to hyperactive hyperdrive /r/eve never crosses my screen. The format just encourages ideas to drop away to page 50 in a few minutes, or to create temporary storm systems of controversy. Based on kind of junior high school boys mentality: “There’s a fight, let’s go see and root for (upvote) the winner!”
reddit’s upvoting feature is great for more narrow things, such as grilling recipes and techniques, tiny trump photoshop works, aquariums tips, etc. But for something as big, complex, and cerebral as the EVE community-- pretty fooking primitive. The biggest draw-point for EVE was always the complexity, the radical community, and the community discussion/publicly debated hardhead wars, with everybody chiming in. Ah, EVE forums threads of vitriolic, narsty, toxic word wars… we hardly knew ye.
that would be easy to change in this forum .. would be cool to have an option for big, smal or no avatar .. click on the name could show the infos .. but .. yea .. could and would be is a problem .. someone has to do it ..
I’m surprised you do not see the reason for that. But it is pretty simple: people don’t like to be reminded about bad things. They prefer to ignore such stuff and forget asap.
Take for example recent Football Championship. What do you think about it?
Reddit:
Lots of fun, visiting new cities and wearing funny clothes, having a lot of beer and enjoying the time!
Eve Forums:
What about road traffics locals will have as result? What about cafe/restaurants locals will not be able to visit because they are taken by fans? What about prices and such? You might have a problem to just buy air ticket at this time.
That’s why you like to visit Reddit. And that’s why you see Forums as place for negativity.
This is version 3 of the forums for me and the original post had nothing to do with the style or mechanics of the forums. The questions is why is there a specific forum provided by CCP when even their devs do not use it for communication with the community.
For full disclosure on the few times I’ve accidentally stumbled into Redit I’ve quickly removed myself from that disgusting cesspool. When I started my eve career the first page on the forums you would always check would be for dev post, and there were devs posting, and engaging and having discussions with the community. Nothing has been more indicative of the decline of Eve Online then the deafning silence of dev posts. Go have a look at the list of dev post now, see how far back you have to trawl before you finally come to a meaningful engaged post from an dev regarding this game.
See various sections with announcements, test server feedback, feature information and so on and so forth.
Just because we don’t respond to every single complaint thread, or the fiftieth thread of the week whining about AFK cloakers, it doesn’t mean to say we’re not utilising the forums.
He called a select group who repeatedly complain about a specific intended mechanic of the game whiners. Not all EVE players, a select few who think that by creating the same forum thread 5 times a week will force CCP to change something that isn’t broken.
Sounds pretty familiar about several things on this forum actually…
Regardless of which he meant, it was still pretty dismissive of the actual claim being made here. It doesn’t seem that anyone was actually claiming that their own complaints were ignored or dismissed by virtue of being made here and not Reddit. It was a more general observation.
It’s a one way tool for CCP. They let you know when there’s a change, they then get to disregard any feedback and ignore you until it errupts on r/Eve.
First of all let me say thanks for responding to this complaint thread.
My issue with this is that CCP should ONLY use this forum for any official comments. You (as in CCP) went and created some chat channels in game (Intergalactic Summit and OOC) because a minority of players (one?) complained they were shut out of some player created channels that sometimes had devs / community team in them. Yet how many players are being shut out by CCP commenting / interacting on Reddit / Slack / Discord etc etc etc ?
I don’t want CCP to stop interacting with players (I think CCP need to do more) BUT it should be done here, on the official forums. This is the first out of game point of contact for Eve, CCP and its players. By all means read and interact elsewhere, BUT COPY IT HERE AS WELL so we lesser nerds can see what is going on as well as the elite.
I don’t expect you to (other than locking / pointing and laughing or flat out banning the idiots) but I do expect to find any and all official CCP (and by official I mean anything said / tweeted / typed or nudged and winked by a CCP employee) here, on the official forums.
Falcon, with respect I’ve been here since 2007 and at the time I started the level of engagement by the devs through the forums with the community was 100 times what it is now. No comparison in fact. Then over the years the posts slowed down and eventually stopped and I genuinely wondered what had happened only to be informed that they were spending all there time posting on redit so had no time to post here.
Guard, Soundwave, Manifest, even Rise and Fossie for a while. They would engage with the community and speak to us. Punkturis! She didn’t even have to add to the discussion! (I still owe her that chocolate chip muffin.)
It picked up slightly there for a year or so but now it’s right back to…silence.
I guess what I’m saying is that I miss them all and I’m disappointed.
