Why Do We Even Have Forums?

Are you even aware of what you did above, and how it reflects on you?

Am I reasonable?
Are you?

PS: I didnt ā€œmissā€ anything of any substance or meaning.

I am and so is everyone capable of understanding that sentence in the context given.

I’ll take my leave now. About to get Salvosh’d here and I really don’t have time for that.

Except for context and the actual point. Which sums up to you missing about everything.

Bye.

Ok.

Show us that you are aware of what you did, by explaining it.

You did it again.

  1. Has it occured to you even once, that it might be you that is missing context and not understanding what others are saying?

  2. Typical that you run, instead of explaining yourself.

  3. Nice try to blame me, again. Rather than considering your own conduct.

  4. Are you LARPing Dunning-Kruger, as your namesake, or are you genuienly unaware that you are demonstrating that very phenomenon repeatedly yourself?

Returning to topic:

Function of an official forum is threefold:
-For players to talk with other players about the game.
-For players to network with each other ā€œoutsideā€ the game.
-To provide an interface between developer and player.

You people are derailing the thread.

Think of them as a kind of honeypot or trap for people like The Dunning Kruger, a place where they can indulge their toxic narcissism while the rest of us enjoy interacting like normal humans elsewhere.

Fansites have long had a penchant for creating their own parallel communities/formats, and often, overshadowing official boards.

Ive been very active on both un/official boards of MMOs for some 20yrs. My post count across them is in the tens of thousands, many of which extended texts, not one-liners.

Ive seen official boards so incredibly bad they are a condemning shame on the developer, and Ive seen fansites try to make profit off their format, or try to leverage developers to their will.

But EVE/CCP is different, and a remarkable exception. Ive been suspended twice, took my licks, but never have felt this board was unfair or compromised. The ISDs are imo as fair as they can be, and official moderation is far, FAR less invasive/partial/obstructionist than I have seen in any other official board, ever

But.

Something has changed in posting culture in the last decade.

If people prefer the reddit format/culture nowadays, so be it. No matter what the reasons (of which I have several theories).

But this is still the official forum, and I do wish people posted here with that in mind, under official moderation, and Devs kept the majority of their player interfacing here.

By all means, go ahead and read unofficial boards, but the response should be here.

This is for a number of reasons:
-Devs, and by extension the EVE product and reputation of CCP, are at risk on 3rd party formats, without official moderation.
-Especially in EVE, it can be expected that 3rd party format holders will try to influence their agenda onto CCP staff. (Ie: AWOX)
-The expectation of a client, will always be that the official board is the official interface.

In conclusion:

If CCP wont instruct staff to post here instead, or the majority of staff AND the majority of players prefer the reddit format, then might as well discontinue the official forum here.

The entire operation can be moved to reddit. and ISDs/Community staff assigned moderation roles on an Official EVE reddit, instead. That way players/staff get the format they prefer, and official oversight is maintained.

It’s unfortunate that the devs and community manager prefer to interact in - and thus legitimise - an environment where posts like the following response to a thread are made by the moderators, stickied, and then upvoted and rewarded with ā€˜gold’ by the community: https://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/8rfoby/an_open_letter_to_reve_from_a_concierge_level/

If reddit is where the staff and players are, then discontinue this forum as obsolete, and start an official EVE reddit moderated by vetted ISDs and CCP community management staff.

Incredible…
Stickied, first best post by a moderator with two gold stars reads:

Chevis Preston: F*g

And people have the gall to call this forum toxic, and its moderation unfair. And that reddit is where both staff and players prefer to hang, in a less toxic and unfair format.

I have thick skin. Im not offended. Im not homosexual. I dont care what most people say, especially to troll on the internet. But the above is an example of why devs, as reps of CCP and EVE, should not be endorsing/patroning a 3rd party player run format by posting there.

If any ISD/staff said the above here, they would no doubt be dismissed immediately, not rewarded as in this case above.

If staff and players prefer reddit format, then make an official reddit staffed/moderated by the vetted ISDs and Community Support staff so things like this dont happen in your name.

I gave too much weight to this forum, and I am stopping to bother with it. The points I have made in this thread are over the failure of these forums which also existed in the previous versions, but let me show this one when the community manager himself goes toxic, well more snide:

Which highlights his own failure, if that thread was not such a trollfest perhaps people would post in it? And is he discounting some reasoned issues with AFK?

I use Reddit I look for certain posts, Chevis Preston is everything that is wrong with Reddit by that simple post, and I get the impression that many Test people don’t think much of him.

A person who plays both games made a very reasoned post which I liked when it was linked to by Dave_English above (thanks) and he got that reply back, that is the same type of reply that The Dunning Kruger / Linus Gorp person throws around, a personal insult, he just makes his insults less obvious, same as you should take your meds, which is a Jenn favorite.

By the way I avoided all the posts on this ship design explosion of wind as the whole thing was utterly pathetic…

You are right with this:

The irony :joy:

The funny thing is, as terrible of a cm Falcon is by him calling his userbase whiners, you literally start whining about the very thing he linked in like the 10 next posts. Its hilarious

He’s still a better poster than you and salvos funnily enough

Well Loyalanon you would say that…, being what you are…

Well he is supposed to as part of his function, keep the forums in good order. He is whining about threads turning up because people do not want to go any where near that catch all AFK cloaking thread due to the trolling there. It is down to him to sort it out. He is whining about something that is under his control, at a business level I have to laugh.

I’m loyal?

Loyals a great poster

So calling someone a F*g like that makes him a better poster. Perhaps he was calling him a cigarette? Who knows?

I have often thought you were Loyal, but of course I could be wrong, but saying that about Chevis’s post reinforces my feeling here…

This is the stickied post by him, as moderator, with 2 gold stars.

Thats better than me?

Thats better than the toxicity and bad moderation you claim exists here?
