Well you do have a point, but what should a “honest EVE Online trailer” should look like? Can’t really advertise with the unique feeling of having ruined someones plan by luring him into a trap with superior information, experience and patience.
And more important: How would ‘make HS safer for the casuals’ help with that problem of “false expectations”?
While this is true, it’s only part of CCP’s advertising mismatch. Most of their ads show multiple ships flying in formation, engaging in Star Wars-style space battles with strong visual impact. Along with CCP and Steam posting descriptions like:
“EVE Online is a free-to-play community driven space MMO where players can choose their own path from countless different options. Experience space exploration, immense PvP and PvE battles, mining, industry and a thriving player economy in an ever-expanding sandbox.”
then yeah, new players are far more likely to get the idea of a cooperative space game with strong community and cool space battles.
As opposed to a suspicious gankpool where you rarely interact with anyone else, never see more than a thumbnail headshot, play on a text-filled HUD with small colored dots on it, and when the Star Wars action kicks in, TiDi crushes everything to a grinding halt.
CCP appears to be trying to draw in the wider MMORPG audience (or as wide as it gets, anyway), and then convince them that “the EVE way” is pretty cool. And lose 99% of them in the process. They’d almost be better off advertising EVE as a grindy hive of scum and villainy, where desperados in rusty ships stab each other in the back to be the first one to loot your smoking corpse.
Then round it off with some “Space: it’s big. Like, really really big. It takes hours just to get anywhere. And when you get there, there’s not much around. Because space, you know. Mostly vacuum. Anyway, EVE Online. Lots of space. Have fun!”
Then at least they’d be getting people in who are primed for boredom in advance, rather than surprised by it.
Ganker’s mindset:
Look mum, that kid’s got a shiny new toy, watch me smash it to pieces.
Basically, socially non-acceptable behavior justified by their own feelings of accomplishments for destroying other people’s hard work and enjoyment. And yes, you do take away someone’s enjoyment by ganking them. It’s not a fun content and it’s not welcome.
Welcome to the forums! Thank you for sharing your opinion and contributing to the discussion around this amazing game! I’m sure this will be the start of an amazing interaction with you, a unique and heretofore unknown but totally real player.
youre acting like a boxing gym is the same thing as eve poeple say that you agree to pvp by downloading the game I think thats what youre playing at here but truthfully eve and a boxing gym are 2 diffrent things in a boxing gym everone wants to be punched thats explixt everone agress on that but not eve you no everone think that just becuase you downloded the game you agree to pvp and the pople youre killing never consted to be shot in the way someone would in a boxing gym
Yeah but see they did. Thats what you aren’t getting. It can happen everywhere in Eve. Been like that for 20 years. Stop trying to change the one game that exists like that. Go play something else if you don’t like that format.
most of gankers arugment is thats just how the game is played and you can just keep on going back to that once thing whenever youer not gonna win a arugment
Because it is. It’s literally how the game is designed by CCP. You are vulnerable to attack all over the place by anyone. I’ve never ganked anyone but that’s just a fact of the games. It’s like playing baseball and having a problem with that fact that you can strike out. Yep, that’s the game. If you don’t want to strike out because it’s unfair and ruined your hard work of walking to the plate, try golf instead of complaining about the sport you picked.
