Diamonds is not money, also not scarace nor valuable, also able to be manufacturered. Their “value” is manipulated by De Beers as is the entire market, impression of them as valuable is marketing by De Beers
The kiddies probably don’t remember the savings and loan fiasco. They may not understand the meaning of “FDIC Insured” or the importance.
Yeah back in the old days we actually had to do due diligence on whom we dealt with, we took responsibility
You don’t need that if you do self-custody securely and you can take out a policy personally, self-custody is what they don’t like
You already lost the minute you depend on somebody else
I don’t go around saying “here hold my wallet”, or “here hold my gun” or here “hold my computer” or “here hold my important data”
you’re in that mess because you let them take control of it all from you
You just don’t get it do you? It is not about the value of the technology. It is about their place in the REAL world.
They are trying to act as a international bank and a currency.
Guess what, they don’t begin to meet the banking requirements of even the screwed up 3rd world country and as a currency they need to convince governments to replace their currency or it is all just speculative ■■■■■■■■.
There is no future move that makes sense, they are riding sensationalism just like many fads of the past.
When people realize the pound, dollar and yen are not going away this will be another bubble burst.
Currencies come and go, if you’re holding currency for long periods, well, just lol
“oh it’s me savings” lol
Well, sure, the pound has only been around since 1489, so it is pretty transient.
The dollar only since 1792, another transient currency.
Like I said, a fool and his money are soon parted.
and the pound has changed over the years, but yes the “pound” is one of the oldest (and most counterfeitted so that gives it some value)
it’s also no longer backed by physical (as is the US dollar also no longer backed by physical) and UK has no reserve requirement at all (US is now set to zero)
Remember gordon brown, Brown’s Bottom selling the UK’s gold lol bwahahaha, with pre-notice and reverse auction, he left a dent in the chart
Thanks for the cheap gold tho
The short version of this conversation;
Cryptocurrency is self correcting, utilizing a lot of vested individuals. The complexity is managed internally, and short of some government over reach, is a good investment. With proper research, you can find several cryptocurrencies that will perform similarly to bitcoin, and several like ethereum that perform well but are rather limited in overall value growth.
If you’re arguing that technology can’t keep up, you’re wrong. The system is designed to keep going. Complexity is managed, safety is everyones goals.
If you choose not to invest, that’s on you. However, opportunity cost was brought up earlier, so if you take that into account, you’re playing yourself by not investing.
If you do invest, you take on the security responsibility of your own investment. Not everyone knows enough to do that, so of course bad people will try to take advantage of that. However, the information is out there and with proper research, you can significantly mitigate your own security risk. Just don’t be dumb and store your security online, or on a piece of paper you or someone you love could throw away.
I suggest having a computer that never touches the internet as a proper storage vessel.
A lot of people arguing how the complexity will be too much, technology can’t keep up. blah blah blah. It is keeping up, and will continue to do so.
There is some risk, as with any investment. The whole point of decentralized infrastructure is you put yourself in charge of your risk.
If you don’t know enough, keep arguing why it’s bad and it’ll fail. As I said above, you’re just playing yourself.
Like banning competing currencies? Guess what, one of the fundamental tasks of all governments is to maintain and protect their currency.
Anyone who thinks Congress, both houses, and the President, will sign off to replace the dollar is seriously drinking the cool aid.
I’m sure some people have pipedreams of replacing the entire current financial system, but I don’t honestly see that happening.
cryptocurrency is worth x amount of value. dollars are worth x amount of labor value. It’s kind of an extension, to be honest.
Dollars (or whatever your country uses) goes into cryptocurrency, which can be used in a multitude of ways, and eventually someone takes the dollar value back out.
Right, but there has to be a future story to maintain investment and depositors.
If they can never be an official currency, and by definition not meet national banking laws.
What is the investment, hype?
Hype is fine if the only purpose is to play the stock price, like Gamestop, an essentially dead company.
and selling shares short you don’t have is perfectly fine, that right there is fraud and abuse
but let’s blame the actual little buyers
agreed. That’s why I previously called cryptocurrency the average persons stock market, without predatory regulations.
The current stock market allows for all sorts of fraud, which happens every day. That doesn’t include insider trading.
Crypto doesn’t have that issue.
That doesn’t matter to the point which is that these are hype based investments that have no real future. Like Gamestop, like dozens of tech IPOs.
The only play is the market hype that is spread by starry eyed evangelists drunk on cool aid.
That is part of the market.
But that doesn’t give companies an automatic future in the real world.
Watch what comes next, while bitcoin and friends have time to play out, the “ride sharing is not a taxi” and “you are the product” games are going to play out sooner.
Wait until NYC makes all those uber drivers paint their cars yellow
All these ■■■■■■■■ lies end eventually!
You’re not my nanny, I am at liberty to take whatever investment I deem fit
The only ones being bailed out is the banks and dirty corporations
I am not telling you not to invest, I’m telling you these are hype investments with no real future.
Surely not something REAL companies with REAL products like CCP/PA should be messing with.
Define “future”
lol, E V E R in this case.
Well, it’s been around for over a decade, that’s pretty long for a failure, and it’s exploded and growing
IF that’s failure, I want more of it
Not really, there are vulnerabilities you dont know about, but you can be a victim of. It is not even about ignorance but I dont know what… luck maybe?
