I noticed delays in server response time when logining in but I wasn’t anywhere near the big fight
Are these attacks specifically on the EVE server or are we just collateral damage?
Unfortunately, Contacting one’s ISP is going to be a fruitless and frustrating experience, it would be like trying to explain to a bacteria, the frustrations of the inherent imbalance in a market economy or nuclear physics. Once you have gone through the script of turning your machine on and off, your router on and off, and being told your fridge is probably causing wireless interference, you will be transferred to someone else, who runs through the same steps again. The next person they transfer you to, will keep you on hold for 30 minutes on a premium phone line before “accidentally” cutting you off. There is nothing one’s isp can do, if the routing is being redirected by your DDOS mitigation partner, other than cut off all the people spamming the servers, and that isn’t going to happen.
Letting support know, so the information can be passed to your partner so they can modify their algorithm, is basically the only thing that will help.
Dealing with DDOS is an absolute nightmare, there will always be innocents caught up in the blocking, all that can be done is fine tuning after the fact, to allow innocent connections, whilst still keeping the hostile actors out, and that is not an easy task to put it mildly, but no matter how bad it seems to those affected, it is a hell of a lot better than the servers being crashed and kept crashed.
@CCP_Explorer For those of us technologically impaired, can you give us something we could copypasta to our respective ISP’s so they know exactly what their curious customer is referring to, what the relevance is, and what they specifically need to tackle and/or whom or what to liaise with?
As an aside, at work I no longer seem to have issues in terms of login tokens, but I do keep losing connection to the chat server there. I presume this is still a seperate matter from the DDOS thing as it occurs when that is not happening?
Maybe CCP should start wondering who they pissed off.
So how do you explain goon mumble being ddos attacked the night before as a test, and then just before the fight? As soon as the ddos failed to take our mumble down, the ddos moved to CCP we certainly wouldn’t ddos our own mumble server, get over yourself if your not running away you’re using stupid tactics
Easy because you can beat anyone else other than goons with no real competition so you don’t need to ddos the server
It’s possible that their Mumble runs off a more sensitive site than CCP’s server. So when a global DDoS attack hits will some sites notice it sooner than others. The attacks certainly appear as being a part of the ongoing conflict in EVE, but when you take a step back and look at the graphics by ISPs then you’ll see that DDoS attacks are occurring globally and it’s a much bigger mess and may well affect more than just us. And people did already mention how other games were affected, too.
@CCP_Explorer Very glad to see that you guys were on the ball. Sadly by now there is a fairly obvious pattern of Reinforce Stuff in the North -> not-so-surprising-DDOS on the timer. Hope you will be on standby for the next big fight too.
Although one of my clients crashed I was able to log back in to X4 while the fight was still raging; took a while but I got there. Given the number of players on the node and the load-enhancing tactics employed by some alliances it is amazing to see the node survived at all.
From the comments above it is obvious there were some trade-offs in ensuring the cluster as a whole survived the DDOS. Unfortunately those are part and parcel of real life IT engineering.
Overall score: solid Job!
cannot connect to login server???
did the network diagnostics all passed
still cannot log into login server??
cannot send a bug report dangit
i click on send bug report and web page comes up blank??
If you still having issues with the connection, then try to change your ISP DNS to Google DNS:
- DNS1 8.8.8.8;
- DNS2 8.8.4.4.
I had the same issues back in the days during these avalance request spammings. The point is that Google have enough powerful servers and respective applications to mitigate these DDOS spikes. How to do this on Win
Still can’t connect to login server, any other ideas how to fix it?
this severe DDoS Attack was timely targeting PanFam players in X47… what a surprise!
Best thing I’ve read all morning. Actually made me laugh.
Under the tinfoil hat of yours, you’re previous “evidence” was you repeating the same statement over and over and believing it’s true (a la Trump). You actually need to provide evidence if you’re stating that you’re doing so.
Goons were in zero danger last night, we had over 400 titans on field and more on standby (plus the supers, carries, dreads etc). If you really think we wanted to DDOS (and do it to own voice comms as well) then I think you might be crazier than I originally thought.
People still care enough in 2018 eve to ddoss services, the real shocking news here.
Set Google DNS and afterwards Flush DNS or restart Computer.
Restart your home router to draw a different IP.
Use a VPN.
